A Low Point for Pacino...
27 May 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Having been a life-long fan of Al Pacino, I sometimes wonder why considering THIS movie was my introduction to the actor. I'm guessing because this was one of the few non-rated R movies he did; and it came out when I was a kid. I remember watching this on cable TV a few times, and just noticed it on Netflix again here recently, so thought I'd give it another watch after all these years- for old times' sake. Back then, Pacino sorta reminded me of comedian Richard Lewis or something-?? LOL

In the 1982 film "Author Author", directed by Arthur Hiller, Pacino played a playwright with kids from multiple marriages, dealing with his play that's just about to open, as well as his wife (Tuesday Weld) leaving him, and a new woman in his life (Dyan Cannon) not sure she wants to jump into a relationship with a guy with so many kids! LOL There are things about this movie I enjoyed- particularly Pacino's relationship with the kid actors on screen. They have great chemistry.

The movie does do a good job of showing this character (who I believe was partially based on a real guy) juggling all these things in his life. I heard the real story was a bit darker- and they had to tone things down for this movie-?? Hmmm.. might THAT have made for a better, more interesting piece- AND character for Pacino to play-??

And I saw at Wikipedia, this movie won (or was nominated) it's share of "Razzie" Awards- including Pacino for "Worst Actor"- and THAT SONG- OMG- "Coming Home to You's Like Coming home to milk and cookies..."???!!! WTF were they thinking when they concocted that horrific melody???!! LMAO Alan King, Bob Elliott and Richard Belzer co-star.

NOTE: In Pacino's defense, his next film was 1983's "Scarface"...LOL
