Mighty Max: Sirius Trouble (1994)
Season 2, Episode 22

It may not appear so at first, but I'd vote this one as possibly the wackiest out of all the episodes, as it's very odd in tone and features themes as varied as superheroes, aliens, enviromentalism and it has an ending that's definitely the most head-scratching and comical of the whole series. It's not key to the overall arc and plot of the show, but I really like it for the cute way in which it changes up a little the usual way the plot line unfolds. I like the more bizarre stories where the characters can kind of relax and everything's not a huge event and all epic super-serious danger. The manner in which Max is summoned to this adventure is one of the coolest ever, with Norman and Virgil appearing in the panels of the latest issue of his favourite comic book! This episode, or at least the spaceship that briefly appears, is based on one of the largest of the play-sets, "Mighty Max Defies the Dread Star", AKA: "Mighty Max Takes on Terror Talon", of which it is named as in the story. I never had that one, the Doom Zones were always my favourites. I find the running gag with Virgil and Norman constantly bickering about some mysterious old grudge to be very annoying! Where the heck's "Rangoon" supposed to be? It's a pretty standard story, but again I like how at the end it plays around a little with the usual formula of the show when Max devises a way to beat the ridiculously cute, tiny cranky Virgil-like aliens by letting them think they've won by 'negotiating' a peace treaty and giving them all the toxic waste(which is a power source to them) that they want! I find the voice of the diminutive leader of the aliens, obviously done by Rob Paulson, totally hilarious, and the strange spontaneous references to the Wizard of Oz that Max comes out with as soon as he sees the aliens are an inspired moment of voice-acting comedy! I most-always enjoy the sentences that pass between the characters, they're absolutely one of the show's greatest features. Oh this series man, this series! So weird..goes in so many crazy little directions that in the end all come together to make for such an awesomely fun experience! To the Max!!!
