Dead Space 3 (2013 Video Game)
6/10
A mediocre sequel

Warning: Spoilers
Contains small spoilers from the first few hours. Experiences after 1 playthrough (1/2 solo and 1/2 co-op) with hard difficulty.

Dead space 3 is a mainstream action game that doesn't respect its predecessors. Agonizing atmosphere has been replaced by action, but not in a good way like DS2. There will be no more eternal lack of ammunition and running with empty magazines just trying to push enemies away, instead all weapons use same easily crafted ammunition and you even could buy more with real money! And even though I loved the plasma cutter in DS and DS2, now it is quite useless because strategic dismemberment is optional, you can kill necromorphs easily with fast submachine guns or splash damage weapons, and you don't need to conserve ammo.

I would have been OK with all that if the storyline wasn't terrible. Isaac is contacted by EarthGov soldiers and sent to a planet, that is believed to be the marker homeworld. There they find walls full of Marker (Necromorph) language written by a long-dead colonial officer. The writings say "Turn it off", and Isaac Clarke thinks this is a legit idea because "Make us whole again" from DS and DS2 worked quite well, didn't it?. The story is disappointing and I even took a 4 months break after the first 5 hours because I didn't care.

Only thing that draw me back was the multiplayer. Playing with a other player (even with a stranger when using quick match) was funnier than I expected, and game matching was easy. The drawback is that playing co-op kills already non-exist horror elements, and all my 6 co-op partners used "Devil's horns": a perfect one-shot-to-kill-with-minimal-ammo-consumption weapon, that makes the game absolutely too easy. This can be avoided by playing hard-core or pure-survival modes, but I didn't know this and played with hard difficulty.

7/10, would have been 5/10 without some positive experiences with co-op and the fact that the graphics are beautiful. DS and DS2 were superior games and DS3 makes me sad, I expected so much more.
