It Jumped The Shark Then Drowned In The Sea Of Repetition And Boredom
25 May 2013
Originally it was a good enough series, most episodes were OK and some were good with episode 17 or thereabouts being a masterpiece. Then along came Duke Devlin and the show went downhill until eventually I gave up. Here's why; 1.Devlin referencing the amount of fangirls he has ad nausaeum. 2.The fact that he made Tristan sound like Barney all of the time as opposed to say, a tough guy which he actually acts and sounds like was tolerable but when you keep adding one bad thing to another things eventually get out of hand. 3.On a more nitpicky level there is one joke in the show that sucks like a hoover/vacuum cleaner/whatever; somebody mentioned the word joke and then Little Kuriboh has the Pharaoh say "Wait, isn't every religion a joke?" If you seriously need to ask what's up about this then here we go; A. He's the PHARAOH. Ancient Egypt was a theocratic absolute monarchy and the people of Egypt all were religious and believed the Pharaoh to be a god. Why would any Ancient Egyptian, especially THE PHARAOH say something like this then? B. Yet again another person just bringing up religion out of nowhere to bash it as if the internet isn't flooded with that already. 4.He had some monster saying "I'm flagging YouTube videos because I have a small penis" as if bothering to follow the rules somehow means someone is insecure as opposed to stoic. 5. The constant 80's pop culture references which eventually made the show look like Family Guy, yet more punishment for those who didn't live through that AIDS and greed-ridden decade. 6. This is the fans' fault and not Little Kuriboh's but the countless abridged series that have been made after the show got popular are both atrocioulsy numerous and of inferior quality; they are either crap or mediocre from the start; there's no shark to jump because when you're at rock bottom you can't jump over anything. 7. The theme song is usually the opening theme of the original Yu-Gi-Oh! (nicknamed Season 0) which was never dubbed into English. Not all that imaginative to say the least. When you consider that the Ancient Egyptians thought scarabs were immortal it becomes easier to see how this show got so popular and heavily referenced in YouTube comments and TV Tropes even though I've seen a much better parody of an Evangelion movie which was made in the 90's and as a result has poorer visuals. It just goes to show that superior animation quality does not a better show make.
