Rashida Jones and her personal take on 30-something relationships.

Warning: Spoilers
I like Rashida Jones, ever since I saw her in the old "Boston Public" TV series. She is very attractive and has a natural acting style that is very believable. Here she writes and directs, and stars as Celeste who is well-known as a "trend forecaster", I don't know if that is to spoof other similar jobs, or if that is legitimate. Anyway she has been married for 6 years but is in the process of getting a divorce. Partly, she says, is because he still is essentially going through adolescence, an artist with no job and not many prospects.

Andy Samberg is her husband Jesse . As the movie opens we see them driving, and acting silly as close friends do. In fact they are close friends, and love each other, but don't want to stay married.

Naturally it gets more complex than that, and initially we see that Jesse is thinking and hoping that Celeste will change her mind. But as things develop eventually Celeste begins to regret the split, but Jesse has reached a point of no return.

An interesting character is Elijah 'Frodo' Wood as Celeste's business partner, or associate, or boss Scott, it isn't very clear, but he plays a homosexual man. And plays it well. There has been speculation for a number of years that Wood prefers the company of other men, and hasn't actually denied it, so that was an interesting casting.

Pretty good movie, not your usual rom-com. In the DVD extra Rashida Jones explains that Celeste is sort of a 'heightened' version of herself, and that most of the incidents, even the strange dates, actually happened to her, or to her close friends.

SPOILERS: As Celeste and Jesse are working to divorce and still preserve their friendship, Jesse finds that a fling a couple of months earlier had resulted in a pregnancy. He was going to be a dad, and he decided he was going to give it a go, to be a good father. He was not able to reconcile with Celeste when she finally reached the realization that she really wanted to stay with Jesse.
