Review of Kai Po Che

Kai Po Che (2013)
7/10
Sincere Attempt
4 March 2013
Abhishek Kapoor won the hearts of cinema goers with his last outing "Rock On!" and has seemed to continue his trend with this film as well. Kai Po Che is an example of excellent film making coming from one of the emerging and talented directors of Indian Cinema.

I haven't read the book (3 Mistakes of my Life) that the film is based on, so I can't comment much on the screenplay. But I would say that the film moves at a slow pace. The story revolves around the effects of societal issues on the lives of the three protagonists. The director does a good job of showing the gravity of each issue. However, each hurdle is crossed with relative ease which I found to be a weak point in the script/direction. However, all other aspects of the film are executed to perfection; background score is elevating, costume design is on point and acting is amazing (especially from the new comers).

With all the garbage films (Dabangg, Khiladi 786, Son of Sardar) garnering 100 crore+, its good to see that a sincere film such as Kai Po Che is gaining praise critically and at the box office. Indian cinema is heavily dependent on emotions and a protagonist who is nothing short of a super hero. While this film doesn't offer the latter, this film is definitely emotional throughout. You can tell the film was made with a lot of heart which can be felt by the viewers.
