Two not-so-interesting lives cross paths. In spite of good acting you won't get involved
22 February 2013
Warning: Spoilers
I saw this film at the Ghent film festival 2012. The announcement text in the festival brochure promised two very different lives coming together, and predicted a fatal outcome. Indeed, we see a fatality in the initial scene when someone is robbed of his car, and left there bleeding due to a knife wound. When I had known beforehand that this very same scene also makes up the end of the film, I might have connected the dots. Devoid of that preliminary information, I observed two parallel stories that did not have anything in common, not until the (fatal) final confrontation.

Two not-so-interesting lives is all what was left to watch for us. Of these two, the would-be football pro was portrayed relatively best. Especially the interaction with his father looked like real life. The other one, the car thief, remained vague and left much to our imagination. The same can be said about the "job" he and his partner were planning. Given the bad preparation for this "job", we can expect the outcome to be a mess. Even now I don't know what this "job" was all about.

The unclear story is a pity, since acting was very good, up to and including the side roles. I failed to get involved in the main characters, and still don't see their purpose in life. I scored a 2 (out of 5) for the audience award when leaving the theater. The scenario deserved a 1 (lowest), but I saw a bit compensated in the technical aspects, and particularly the acting.
