Rawhide: Incident at Confidence Creek (1963)
Season 6, Episode 10
Rare humorous "Rawhide"
1 August 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Confidence trickster Elwood Gilroy (Dick York, "Bewitched") worms his way into the drovers' camp and pilfers the deeds to the cattle. Pretending to be Gil Favor, he sells the herd and makes a quick getaway, abandoning his girlfriend (Barbara Eden, "I dream of Jeannie").

Arrested for trespassing, all the drovers are led off to town by the sheriff and shoved into one cell. Eden's character goes bail for Rowdy (Clint Eastwood) and together they ride after Gilroy.

A welcome, humorous "Rawhide." Eden does a harem dance, though she's veiled and you don't see much. Even fully dressed in a shirt and trousers, she looks great (for a fully shirted and trousered, and extremely sexy, Barbara Eden in color, see "Five Weeks in a Balloon"). Eden's scenes with Eastwood are reminiscent of high-toned screwball comedy.

Not only does this episode feature two stars of later, and thematically related, television shows, long-time support actors J. Pat O'Malley, Byron Foulger, and Roy Roberts also join the fun.

And toward the end, when the real Gil Favor rides into camp to taste coffee that had been left for three days, his reaction is priceless.

One caveat: would anyone really abandon Barbara Eden?
