The Turtles were big at the time my son was the right age for them (albeit in England we got the Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles, because the powers that be decreed that knowledge of all things ninja related was a bit too strong for children). So I was familiar with the bowdlerised English version of the TV cartoon series, the bowdlerised English comic, the live action movies, and I even had some knowledge of Eastman and Laird's rather darker US comic. My son was absolutely barmy about them and, to tell the truth, I quite liked 'em too.

It all went very quiet after the third movie (which, personally, I liked best of the lot). And then along comes this new CGI movie.

I think CGI, as a medium, suits the Turtles better than traditional animation or live action, and this film gets nearly everything right (character design - Turtle, human, and creatures - is fine, but sometimes the animation runs the action too fast and confusingly). The story works well, and it's a pleasure to see this odd little offshoot of popular culture back on the screen.
