Hate is Devastating !
30 October 2010
Warning: Spoilers
As a fantasy, it's magnificent. Apart from an original imaginative world, it gives a new supernatural power: The oblivion (forget the thing, anything, and in no time, it'll disappear forever), inviting us to forget what we hate. But what if you hated everything and everyone, including yourself?!

Artistically, it's fine too. The direction, the music, the cinematography, the acting, the set, and oh yes, the CGI, all of that was terrific. The script has many good lines and situations. It creates so fresh atmosphere, while leading the pace in such a thrilling way. And no doubt it is one unpredictable movie, where you're dared to know what is going to happen next. So, where is the problem? I'll tell you..

At first, you may think that it's about facing a mega-cruel world, with a real horrific intro by the way. Then, after a while, you'll see that it's about hatred, and how forgetting, a wise forgetting, can solve a lot, to make peace with yourself and the world, which reaches its climax through the 2 leads' friendship. The script focuses on the importance of not forgetting the friend, or rather love, assuring that: changed yourself or not, in your world or out of it, at any cost you have to have a friend, with - naturally - arguments and troubles, but not hate. Because when you don't have a friend, then you have nothing. The problem though is that the freaky ending degrades, in a way, the cuteness of the mix, delivering that moral shockingly!

I got disappointed eventually, simply due to the tragic sense of it; whereas the 2 leads knew the truth about the greatness of "being together", while "admitting the love", and "being honest", however after destroying everything and everyone, including themselves, in sudden wild melodrama. As if to confirm the constructive power of love, yet adversely; by confirming the devastating power of hate. Yes, we're accustomed to have these sweet meanings about love sweetly from Hollywood dreams, and now this is the nightmarish way of it. But what really disappoints is that while the movie cautions about hatred, it hated its 2 characters' dumbness so powerfully!

Other problems: The profanity, and the bad language in general. Why this has become a compulsory thing to do in every not PG or PG-13 movie out there?! Is that maturity from the filmmakers' viewpoint? And if it isn't, why every movie character has to be immature??!! Anyway, it's getting extreme to ugly and boring extent. Moreover, I think that the movie was busy making crazy images more than rooting its main substance. Maybe it fell in love with its dazzling fanciful details, and didn't remember its cause unless lately. I could be wrong, but I felt that the meat was heavier than the bone.

Despite this or that, (Nothing) mixed fantasy with black comedy attractively, managing to be one of the best movies ever made about hate, and an unforgettable experience even for its non-fans. You just need to forget its hatred for its leads, and whatever problem it has, to understand it and enjoy it.
