Super Atragon (1995– )
6/10
Atragon, done right.

Warning: Spoilers
I must say this quite an entertaining OVA series, no original but in some ways great. It is basically a remake of the 1963 film Atragon, or Gotengo/Undersea Battleship as it is called in japan. While the original movie was dull and boring, this is viberent and exciting, so you don't have to worry about falling asleep. The story is well done and certain plot points are revealed over time, keeping the show interesting. The subterranean mechanical designs have that modern yet classic retro feel similar to the classic kaiju movies from back in the 60,s. The Undersea Battleship Ra has the feel of something out of world war two fiction mixed with some retro and modern anime touches. But prehaps one of the most memorable features of this show is it's music, it's triumphant beat that really pumps up the action/battle sequences. In some ways it stays with the original story yet also goes it's own path, making it more of a reimagining then a remake. The only problem I have with this show is at times it proves to be a bit cheesy and over the top. But since it is a remake of a 60's sci-fi movie, there's no big surprise there. So if your into anime with lots of action and surprises, I suggest you pick up a copy of Super Atragon today, or if your cheap see it on You-Tube.
