Cinema at the highest level Romance with a twist.

What a refreshing change. A film MADE for Cinema.

Boot Polish is an exceptional story about love, and the struggle for free will all combined in one. Our young protagonist is a character with frailties, a dispirited soul who struggles to sketch out his existence as a shoe-shine boy. But as the story develops we discover this boy dream's of an attractive courtesan, who he feels affection for. It's a simple tail of Shakespeare's workings of Romeo & Juliet 'Indian' Style.

Perhaps what makes Boot Polish far more alluring to audiences is possibly this films appeal's to our internal and ethical beliefs on how we see the 3rd world. The director has encapsulated this skillfully in this 15 minute short film. It has a straightforward premise and does not cram morality down our throats. Ahmad has made Boot Polish to appeal to mainstream audiences with beautiful music, wonderful and good simple characters.

The film is satisfactorily acted out and the screenplay is extraordinary. Perhaps further character development would have enhanced the movie. But it's always difficult to encapsulate everything into a 15 minute short film, and I totally agree with other readers this film requires more time to be totally appreciated.

The cinematography was enormously appealing to the human eye and the art direction rounds out the film's magnitude. I would also love to see where Ahmad goes with his talent, he does merit some sort of accolade, as there are suggestions of importance within his work.

Foreign language films do not usually interest mainstream audiences, but given the right budget and training perhaps this director could blossom into one of the paramount directors in the world. I am however impressed by his effort and I look forward in viewing his future films being screened in the US.
