Hardly Anarchic - Archaic more like !
1 November 2006
I find the previous review astonishing. Hardwick House has appeared on lists of the "worst show of all time" type several times on Channel 4 and Five. It was pulled because the writers thought paedophilia was funny. All the pupils seemed to be the sexual targets of the lecherous staff. This wasn't even funny in the 1950's limbo where the programme was clearly set. Jimmy Edward's "Wacko" and Saint Trinians were just about funny, as they had their tongue firmly in their cheek. Hardwick House had its tongue in the lavatory bowl and was rightly pulled by the ITV planners when they belatedly realised what it was.

How they got it past the powers that be in the first place is the biggest mystery in TV history. Were the commissioners too busy playing golf, or watching the other side like most of the viewers?
