Chaos (I) (2005)
1/10
Horrible.....Awful....Sad
5 January 2006
My brother came into town from college and took me to the movies. We used to watch Monster Vision when I was younger so he thought we should see Chaos.......BIG mistake. I always listen to Ebert and after seeing this movie, I especially know why I do. In simple terms, the story contains no hope, and for a movie to sit on a high horse claiming realism, to lack hope is lacking a huge part of our reality. Hope is what keeps drives our lives; hoping to do good, hoping to be good, and hoping that everything will be OK. Even with sadistic murderers and brutality there is the smallest morsel of hope - just ask a survivor of the Holocaust.

Moreover, bad acting, extremely bad acting contributed to the failure of this movie. Yea it was about as gruesome as the movie....

Gore doesn't bother me, I've was weened on watching horror movies, but watching men get off on raping and murdering girls, especially when there are women in my family who are rape victims, is not something easily digested. Yes, this world is brutal. Yes, women are raped and maimed. Yes, torture is real. Do we really need a reminder? The only thing that gets us from wallowing in those things, however, is hope. Hope that there will always be something better to take the place of the bad. This movie is nothing but a piece of controversy put together, and the sad thing is, the director used real victims to put money in his pocket, offering no hope as a consolation prize.
