Lee Evans: So What Now?
11 May 2005
Warning: Spoilers
When I was younger I watched this sitcom and found it really funny, it is only seeing it again, despite having a big star in the lead, that I can see why it only lasted one series. Basically eccentric and accident prone Lee Evans has been chucked out by his wife Eileen, and is forced to rent a flat with his slobbish best mate Stuart Ponder (Steven O'Donnell), their landlady is failed It girl and neurotic Heather Ornshaw (Sophie Thompson). The eight episodes in the series see the three characters get up to their own little adventures, Lee trying to get back with his wife, find a job and generally fit in, Stuart trying to convince everyone he is a businessman and attempting schemes, and Heather trying to make real friends and just acting like a loony. Also starring Omid Djalili as Ken, Tony Gardner as Dan, Michael Fenton Stevens as Doctor and Hugh Lloyd as Frank Lewis. It is a shame that this comedy doesn't completely work, it is very likely that it is because many of the jokes are predictable, not all the characters were thought out properly, the physical jokes are really the only big laughs and there are not enough of them, it might be a worth a watch once or twice, but this is certainly not one that all stays in the memory for long, with the exception of the Sofa episode. Lee Evans was number 23 on 100 Greatest Stand-Ups, and he was number 14 on Britain's Favourite Comedian. Worth watching!
