Boy Meets Girl (I) (1998)
A series of lifted gimmicks; utterly lacking in originality
28 May 1999
A short student film, obviously made by a novice filmmaker, Boy Meets Girl lifts a series of gimmicks from a variety of 80s movies and ties them together in a short narrative of a contrived nature. From the opening scene, in which the lead male rises from bed and addresses the camera, ala Ferris Bueller, you know the film can't lead anywhere good. The jokes are obvious, the story is dull, and the acting leaves much to be desired. Although the lead has some charisma, the director obviously did little to work with his actors. In short, Boy Meets Girl is the type of venture which gives student filmmaking a bad name.
