MIMI FASCINATES
8 February 1999
This is not everybody's cup of tea, and it shouldn't be. What we see is not a story (or only a slight one), but a view of the day-to-day life of 19 year old Mimi: what she does, how she reacts on circumstances etcetera. But both the director and actress (Sophie Aignier) do it with such panache (with the director having an astonishing power of control of image) that this film captivated at least this viewer.

The film does have something of the Chantal Akerman style. So this is for the discriminating viewer only.

I saw this picture at the International Film Festival in Rotterdam (the Netherlands), where it could only attract a very small audience.
