Miss it because of writing and performances........
5 September 2004
It is quite a chore to sit through this film. Twenty-five years ago, I read the play in college, and remember it as being an extremely unpleasant experience. Sheen and Albertson recreate their Broadway performances, and the result may not be scene-chewing, but is certainly over-earnest. This film was Neal's comeback after the stroke, and she indeed fairs better than her costars, ironically.

The characters manage to taunt one another endlessly. Of course, dysfunctional families are a dime-a-dozen, so it all comes down to whether or not you want to spend two hours viewing a protracted family meltdown.
