A Mind is a Terrible thing to Waste . . .
23 August 1999
Curt Siodmak's name can be found in a lot of B movie credits, and this is one of his best. The plot has been ripped off time without number, but this film still holds up. I prefer it over the previous film version, The Lady and the Monster (1944).

This is *the* rich-dead-guy's-brain-in-a-jar movie. The brain develops telepathic and telekinetic powers after being released from the fetters of the flesh and manages to inflict a surprising amount of havoc.

The body count is low (only one!) by today's standards, but that doesn't keep the story from being scary.

The main character (other than the brain) just isn't a very nice guy to begin with, and becomes ever more despicable as the story unfolds. This was far better handled in the book, but comes through to some extent here.

If you like vintage horror, this is it.
