Poll: Are You Ready for Wakaliwood?

Nabwana I.G.G. is an Ugandan director of low-budget action movies. He gained a certain level of awareness outside of his home country after pieces of his movies had been released on YouTube (the trailer for his 2010 feature Who Killed Captain Alex? (2010) was viewed more than 2.7 million times; the whole film has since been available on the video platform).

Nabwana, who claims to never have been to a movie theatre, shoots his films in Wakaliga, a slum of Ugandan capital Kampala, with an estimated budget of 200 US-Dollars each and local residents as actors. The special effects for his violent and fast-paced works are created on a self-manufactured computer.

A further element that adds to "Wakaliwood"'s reputation are video jockeys, whose live narrations for the movies shown in video halls boast a ribald sense of humor.

Would you be interested to see one of Nabwana's Wakaliwood movies?
