Where is he now?

The made-for-tv movie was a programming staple for the broadcast networks in the 1970s and 1980s. While it fell out of favor in the 1990s and was even dropped as an Emmy Awards category for three years beginning in 2011, it has been on an upswing as of late. This year, 41 telefilms are in contention for the five nominations that will be revealed on July 13; last year only 28 TV movies were submitted.
All 22,000 plus voting members of the TV academy have until June 28 to cast their 2021 Emmy Awards nominations ballots for their favorite TV movies. In the past, voters were limited in the number of telefilms that they could put forth. In 2017 that cap (which was usually 10 per category) was lifted. And, as opposed to the Oscars, voters for the Emmys do not rank their choices and nominees are determined by a simple tally.

“My thought was that I would write a score that he would have written if he continued on,” explains Emmy nominated composer Brian Tyler of his score for “Clouds.” He is referring to Zach Sobiech, the teenage singer-songwriter whose real life battle with terminal cancer is at the heart of the Disney+ film. The composer describes his work on this project as a unique and “emotional experience.” Watch the exclusive video interview above.
“Clouds” is a film filled with Sobiech’s actual songs, and Tyler says that “altered the way I approached” the score. He had to create something that fit with and responded to the folk/pop vibe of Zach’s tunes. “I would listen to his mixtapes during the last two years of his life,” the composer reveals, “what he was listening to, what inspired him.” He hopes his score not only honors Zach’s legacy, but reflects...

“Zack inspired people to live better. If we did it right, then the movie would do the same,” explains director Justin Baldoni. He is referring to Zach Sobiech, the teenage singer-songwriter whose life is depicted in Baldoni’s Disney+ film “Clouds.” The story was chronicled in an episode of Baldoni’s documentary series “My Last Days,” which followed individuals battling terminal illnesses with a sense of hope and joy. After Sobiech eventually passed away, Baldoni was determined to share his inspiring story with a wider audience. Watch the exclusive video interview above.
Baldoni reveals that while Zach was still alive, he promised the teen “that I would do whatever was in my power to keep his story alive. To keep him alive.” The resulting film is “Clouds,” titled after Sobiech’s hit song. “It was my love for Zach and it was my promise to Zach that allowed me to take the risks I took,...

In March, the first L.A. screening of Justin Baldoni’s Clouds took place at Warner Bros.’ screening room 5. It would be the last day the studio lot was open. “Tom Hanks had just gotten Covid, the lot was empty, and no one knew if we should even be in the same room together,” the director recalls. Eight months later, Clouds now can be found on another studio’s streaming service after a transition that could only have happened in an industry-shifting pandemic.

Neve Campbell admits she was relieved not to have her kids with her when she was filming “Clouds.”
“I’d have some stuff to shed every evening,” she tells Variety. “There were days of heavy crying, and I’d just be drained.”
The Disney Plus drama is based on Laura Sobiech’s memoir “Fly a Little Higher: How God Answered a Mom’s Small Prayer in a Big Way,” about her son Zach’s battle with bone cancer. Before Zach’s death at 18, a video of him performing his song “Clouds” went viral. “We had a director’s chair with Zach’s name on it,” says Campbell, who plays Laura. “It was always on set.”

Disney+'s new movie Clouds tells the tragic and true story of Zach Sobiech (played by Fin Argus), a teenage songwriter from Stillwater, Minnesota, whose uplifting music reached global recognition while he battled a rare terminal cancer that would soon take his life.
According to SoulPancake's documentary about Zach's life called Meet Zach Sobiech: My Last Days, Zach was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a rare bone cancer, in his hip and left leg in 2009 at age 14. In June 2012, three years after his original diagnosis, during which he underwent 10 surgeries and 20 rounds of chemotherapy, doctors discovered that Zach's cancer had spread to both of his lungs, giving him between six months to a year to live. In the midst of his pain and the anticipated grief of his departure, Zach began to write music as a way of saying goodbye to the people he loved the most, without realizing that his songs...

The sheer range of genres represented by this week’s new releases — from Liam Neeson thriller “Honest Thief” to romantic weepie “2 Hearts” — suggests that distributors of all kinds are doing their best to give audiences the kind of selection they enjoyed before the lockdown.
Well, nearly all kinds of distributors.
The major studios are still playing it safe and holding their tentpoles for a time when they can pack the megaplexes, although Paramount has stepped in with a fun post-apocalyptic adventure, “Love and Monsters,” which goes straight to PVOD, and Sony picked up an unconventional neo-noir called “The Kid Detective” out of the Toronto Film Festival that sneaks into theaters today. Pre-Halloween horror offerings continue, as Amazon Prime releases two more titles in its Welcome to the Blumhouse series: “Evil Eye” and “Nocturne.”
Art-houses land a major title in 2019 Venice Film Festival winner “Martin Eden,” an Italian adaptation of the Jack London novel.

It’s been a fun month to be a Disney Plus subscriber so far, and today’s content drop aims to keep that trend alive. We’re being treated to the addition of a new original movie, the premiere episode of an original show and plenty more that should keep you busy over the weekend – especially if you’re a fan of nature.
Indeed, today’s additions include a handful of nature documentaries, but the new Disney Plus Original Meet the Chimps is perhaps the most exciting piece of content in the haul. The premiere episode will introduce viewers to Chimp Haven, an incredibly large and interesting wildlife sanctuary in Louisiana that houses over 300 chimpanzees. The series follows this diverse group of chimps through the good and bad of their daily lives, while also touching on the staff that works diligently to keep them safe and happy.

You have to hand it to “Clouds,” the latest wholesome YA drama to premiere on the Disney Plus platform: There has never been, and probably never will be, another teen movie to pay such repeated tribute to Mary Oliver. A line from the late American poet’s “The Summer Day” — “Tell me, what is it you plan to do/With your one wild and precious life?” — is quoted multiple times in director Justin Baldoni’s sweet, smoothed-over biopic of teenage singer-songwriter Zach Sobiech, who died aged 18 of cancer, shortly after scoring the viral folk-pop hit that lends the film its title. The resonance of Oliver’s words is obvious, but effective.
Then again, “Clouds” also gets misty-eyed over the lyrics to Jason Mraz’s twee 2008 smash “I’m Yours:” It’s not a film that especially distinguishes between the sublime and the stickily sentimental, but in that respect, it feels...

Clouds launches on Disney+ this weekend and tells the true of story of Zach Sobiech, a terminally ill teenager who went viral with his music career just before he passed away. To mark the film’s release we spoke to the actor playing Zach, Fin Argus – and his on-screen mother, Neve Campbell.
We ask the duo if they get emotionally caught up in the film in the same way an audience member does, and whether the character of Zach, and his positive outlook on life was a real inspiration to them while they shooting. Campbell goes on to admit she did need to have a disconnect between herself and the role of Zach’s mother, given she’s a mother to sons herself – and Argus talks about meeting those who knew the young man, and how that helped shape his performance. Finally, just before saying goodbye – we asked for a brief update on Scream 5,...

What started out pre-Covid-19 as a Warner Bros. theatrical teen inspirational drama, “Clouds,” became an early-acquisition feature film for Disney Plus, which begins streaming the movie on Oct. 16.
“Clouds” is based on the memoir of Laura Sobiech, whose son, Zach Sobiech, had a viral YouTube hit in late 2012 with “Clouds,” an easygoing, uplifting pop song that touched on the heavy themes of Zach’s mortality. Zach, 17, wrote and performed the song amid his battle with osteosarcoma, a bone cancer, which took his life in May 2013.
“Clouds” director Justin Baldoni co-financed “Clouds” with Warner Bros. under Baldoni’s production banner, Wayfarer Studios. When the film sat dormant earlier this year with theaters indefinitely closed or in flux, Baldoni says he bought the film’s portion owned by Warner Bros. and took “Clouds” to Disney, which bought distribution rights for Disney Plus.

The inspirational story of Zach Sobiech and the hit song the 17-year-old musician wrote after being confronted with his terminal osteosarcoma diagnosis in 2012 (and taking a last-ditch family trip to Lourdes), this true-life tear-jerker seems poised to become the latest addition to the growing sub-genre of “behind the music” biopics about Christians who deal with cancer by recording chart-toppers about their love for God.
But it only takes a few minutes to realize that “Clouds” isn’t just another honeyed and ham-fisted piece of evangelical propaganda — even if the likes of “I Can Only Imagine” and “I Still Believe” made canny bids for mainstream success by hiding their full religiosity until the very end. If Baldoni’s sometimes moving and often graceful Disney+ debut can be described as “faith-based” — a big “if” for a filmmaker whose directing work has always evinced a single-minded yet decidedly secular interest in the lessons...

The announcement was made by Percy Jackson author Rick Riordan. “After a lot of hard work and a lot of support from you guys, Percy Jackson is coming to Disney+,” Riordan said, while promising there will “more later.” He followed up with a statement that said the series will be “following the storyline of the original ‘Percy Jackson’ five-book series, starting with ‘The Lightning Thief’ in season one.”
Disney+ declined to comment, but an individual with knowledge of the project described it as being in “very early development.”
