Stephen King's work is consistently praised for taking everyday situations and turning them on their heads in a horrific way. One of the ways he accomplished this was by building up the world around the story. He created the fictional town of Castle Rock to ground his work and give the reader a sense of familiarity. It stands in for just about any small town in the United States. While King throws in his usual Maine touch, it has parts that everyone can identify with.
Since there have been numerous adaptations of King's work, the town of Castle Rock has had its share of on-screen appearances that can shape a story of the town without the movies even being related. This creates a way to tie movies together through the evolution of recurring characters to show the changes that Castle Rock itself has gone through.

Actress and producer Rashida Jones and the team behind Adult Swim's Robot Chicken have landed an animated comedy project at Quibi.
The shortform streamer is developing Filthy Animals, an animated sci-fi comedy that Jones will star in and executive produce (via her Le Train Train). By our estimate, there are some 87 different theatrical movies, TV or streaming movies, TV series and limited series based on the works of Stephen King. Knock off the nine Children of the Corn sequels and the two additional Mangler movies, and you’ve still got a significant bounty of King-inspired content to plow through, even if not all of them are exactly top-tier fare.
We’ve curated that list down to a manageable three dozen or so, both big and small screen, that are 1) all available for streaming and 2) significant or notable in some way. Your mileage may vary, and you may want to dig deeper for a few favorites we’ve left out. But we’re satisfied that this is a King list fans can easily binge for weeks on end — whether you’re trapped by a raging snowstorm in an empty hotel or locked in your house due to an apocalyptic pandemic.
