The Dance Moms cast is back, and they’re ready to unpack their baggage. The stars of the popular Lifetime reality series reconnected in New York City on April 25 for the premiere of the new Dance Moms reunion special. But their infamous teacher Abby Lee Miller was noticeably absent from the event.
The two-hour reunion special brings together former Dance Moms cast members to reflect on the show, its memorable moments (both good and bad), and how their experience as young TV stars affected their entertainment careers. It airs May 1 on Lifetime.

What a beautiful tribute. Earlier this week, Life & Style reported that Dance Moms alum Abby Lee Miller was diagnosed with Burkitt’s lymphoma— a form of Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma — after being hospitalized for paralysis of the neck down. As expected, her fans and loved ones — including Sarah Hunt and her mother, Christy Hunt — are doing whatever they can to support her. The mother-daughter duo exclusively opened up to Life & Style about how the Abby Lee Dance Company elite competition team paid tribute to the former instructor at a recent competition. While competing in Pittsburgh over the weekend, the 12-year-old and her teammates — Maddie, 14, Erica, 16, Alaina, 12, and Christina, 14 — "proudly danced together wearing #AbbysArmy Ribbons" and dedicated "their entire competition to the Aldc and Miss Abby’s fight against Burkitt’s lymphoma," Christy and Sarah told Life & Style. The girls placed first overall in the Teen Division under the direction of Miss Abby and Gianna Martello.

It's been a tough year for some kids on reality shows.
From Here Comes Honey Boo Boo to Friday Night Tykes to the kids of Real Housewives with parents getting divorced or going to jail, it could be hard to understand why a parent would want to broadcast their child’s development for all the world to see -- even if they’re able to pay for college down the road with talent fees.
Child advocates who we spoke to said that there aren't enough regulations, especially for shows shot outside California, to protect kids from being overworked and exploited. Unlike the push for a "no kids" policy in paparazzi photos -- which was supported by Kristen Bell and other celebrity parents -- there’s been no coordinated campaign focused on kids on reality shows.

It's safe to say Dance Moms star Abby Lee Miller isn't backing down when it comes to her court case against her former co-star Kelly Hyland.
Et was the only outlet to capture Miller on camera before her court appearance in New York City on Tuesday, Jan. 13, where she faced Hyland regarding the ugly Nov. 2013 incident that was actually captured by Dance Mom cameras. Miller and Hyland -- the mother of Brooke, 16, and Paige, 13, both students of Miller's -- were involved in a physical scuffle at a dance event in New York, which escalated into Hyland slapping and pulling Miller's hair.

Abby Lee Miller, the tyrannical dance coach from Dance Moms is being sued for assault by former student, and ex-Dance Moms cast member, Paige Hyland.
Paige Hyland Sues Abby Lee Miller For Abuse
Hyland, 13, recently left the Lifetime show, along with her older sister Brooke Hyland and her mother, Kelly Hyland, and has now filed a lawsuit claiming Miller once threw a chair at her and was often physically and verbally abusive towards Paige and her fellow dancers.
The complaint, filed Thursday in Los Angeles Superior Court, claims that Miller created an atmosphere of fear by abusing her students and alleges that Miller’s violent behavior was part of a larger scheme to create drama for the reality show. “All of this was a part of a deliberate scheme by the producers to generate interest in the television show and strong ratings when each episode airs,” reads the complaint.

Kelly Hyland is suing the matriarch and producers of the Lifetime docusoap over a brawl that aired as part of this week’s episode. Her suit (read it here) claims that Dance Moms star Abby Lee Miller assaulted and later defamed her. The suit says “the producers of the show [Collins Avenue Entertainment], in an effort to attract ratings and viewership, encourage and facilitate conflicts between Miller on the one hand and the young girl dancers and their mothers on the other.” It goes on to cite Miller’s “bullying and insulting leadership style” as the girls’ principal dance coach. The incident that fueled the assault claim happened November 22 before a dance competition in the Bronx. The suit claims Miller “repeatedly lunged toward Kelly gnashing her teeth and loudly attempting to bite Kelly.” Then, according to the filing, Hyland “in self-defense, slapped Miller and pulled Miller’s head away from her to avoid being bitten.

Abby Lee Miller returned with a new season of "Dance Moms" (Tue., 9 p.m. Est on Lifetime) for fans of yelling in front of uncomfortable children. There seems to be no determination on when is an appropriate time to start screaming from Miller or her dance moms. She simply is not going to take any criticism from anyone. She's the one who produces champions and success stories, and if the cost is too high, there's the door.
When Kelly Hyland criticizes how quickly Miller is moving through dance numbers -- teaching the girls a new one every three days, and then criticizing them for not being perfect -- she said Miller's impatience was because she has never had a child.
"No, but I had a mother and a father," Miller countered, which isn't the same thing at all. "And if they looked at me one time, I knew!"
