Following the early seasons of 911, Hollywood star Connie Britton left the series, and many fans wondered why.
Britton was part of the main 911 cast upon its initial Fox debut in 2018. She portrayed Abby Clark, a dispatcher in the 911 call center who helped send Los Angeles' first responders across town to where they were most needed.
Abby also had a short but interesting relationship with Oliver Stark's Evan Buckley, all while caring for her mother, Patricia, who suffered and eventually died from Alzheimer's.

[This story contains spoilers from season seven, episode five of 9-1-1, “You Don’t Know Me.”]
A couple of months ago, 9-1-1 co-creator and showrunner Tim Minear reached out to actor Lou Ferrigno Jr. — who had guest-starred in three flashback episodes of the second season — about reprising his role as firefighter Tommy Kinard in the seventh season of the hit Fox-turned-abc first-responder drama.
Ferrigno Jr., who says he had nothing but fond memories of working with the writer and producer years ago, was instantly intrigued to learn that Minear was in the early stages of writing a multi-episode arc that would allow viewers to check back in with Tommy in the present. That storyline, as it turns out, would involve Evan “Buck” Buckley (Oliver Stark), the ostensibly straight character who would navigate his newfound attraction to Tommy in the landmark 100th episode, which aired last Thursday.

9-1-1 is adding a face from Bobby’s (Peter Krause) past for the second half of Season 7.
According to Deadline, Malcolm-Jamal Warner has landed a four-episode arc as Amir.
Amir is a nurse in a hospital’s burn unit with a surprising connection to Bobby.
Details about how the pair come into contact have not been disclosed, but given that we know Amir’s profession, there’s a good chance it will result from a character winding up in that unit.
If Amir’s tie is to Bobby, we expect it to be someone from the 118.
Let’s hope it isn’t Buck (Oliver Stark). He needs a break after his brush with death after being struck by lightning.
Could Malcolm Jamal-Warner become a new series regular?
It’s unclear whether the four episodes could become something more because 9-1-1 has already earned a Season 8 renewal at ABC.

9-1-1 star Oliver Stark says he is “humbled and overwhelmed” by the outpouring of fan support following his character’s surprise same-sex kiss at the end of the show’s 100th episode.
The kiss was between Stark’s character, Buck, and his new friend, Tommy Kinard (Louis Ferrigno Jr.). It was the first time fans saw Buck romantically involved with another man.
“Humbled and overwhelmed by the positive reaction to Buck’s storyline,” Stark wrote on his Instagram Story on Saturday. “I’ve read so many of your messages and I couldn’t be prouder.”
The actor also took a moment to acknowledge the few critics of the onscreen moment. “If you are one of the smaller group of people commenting on my posts about how this has ruined the show,” he wrote, “I would like you to know that I truly don’t care.”

Oliver Stark has called out the online trolls objecting to his 9-1-1 storyline regarding his character’s bisexuality.
“If you are one of the smaller group of people commenting on my posts about how this has ruined the show, I would like you to know that I truly don’t care,” the actor wrote on his Instagram stories on Saturday.
The ABC series recently aired an episode where Stark’s Buck Buckley character realized his feelings for his pal Tommy were stronger than “friendship.” The scene ended with a kiss.
“This is a show about love and inclusion,” Stark wrote. “It’s featured queer relationships from the very beginning, including a beautiful Black lesbian marriage played out by two of the best actresses I’ve ever watched.

9-1-1 kicked off a big storyline this week with Buck (Oliver Stark) sharing a kiss with Tommy (Louis Ferrigno Jr.).

Oliver has confirmed in several interviews since the episode aired that Buck will be exploring his sexuality this season.
In a newly released promo shared by ABC, we see Buck and Tommy on their first date, but it doesn’t go to plan.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for 9-1-1 Season 7 Episode 4 “Buck, Bothered and Bewildered.”] For its 100th episode, 9-1-1, one of the most consistently exciting, heartfelt, and simply entertaining shows on TV, delivers one for the books, setting Buck (Oliver Stark) up for a new romance and to figure out what that means for him. For most of the episode, Buck’s seemingly jealous that Eddie (Ryan Guzman) is leaving him out and has formed a new friendship with Tommy (Lou Ferrigno Jr.), the former member of the 118 who flew them in a helicopter to Athena (Angela Bassett) and Bobby’s (Peter Krause) rescue when their honeymoon turned into a disaster. Eddie and Tommy fly to Vegas to watch a fight? Buck’s bothered. Eddie’s son Christopher (Gavin McHugh) can’t stop talking about Tommy? Buck rants to his sister Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt). Eddie invites Tommy to join a weekly basketball game that Buck always says ...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for 9-1-1 Season 7 Episode 4 “Buck, Bothered and Bewildered.”] If you asked us before 9-1-1 Season 7 began if the ABC first responder drama would take the relationship between Buck (Oliver Stark) and Eddie (Ryan Guzman), which remains strictly platonic, and actually go where some fans have wanted to see it go for some time now, the answer would have seemed simple. But now the question has to be asked. Buck spends the 100th episode “bothered and bewildered,” to borrow its title, upon realizing Eddie’s spending all this free time with Tommy (Lou Ferrigno Jr.), the former 118er they just worked with to rescue Bobby (Peter Krause) and Athena (Angela Bassett). He seems hurt when Eddie talks about meeting someone and just clicking. He tries to get Eddie’s attention at work, then drags Chimney (Kenneth Choi) along to a weekly basketball game upon learning his best friend’s going with Tommy. And ...

When 9-1-1 co-creator Tim Minear signed up on Twitter (now known as X), he chose a telling handle to denote his legacy as a screenwriter and director: @Cancelledagain. “I was sort of infamous for all of my thundering failures over the years,” explains Minear. “Firefly lasted one season, Terriers one season, The Inside one season, Drive went for six episodes. Everything was canceled, so I just called myself ‘cancelled again,’ which actually worked out for me because these are all beloved little cult shows now.”
With the seventh season of 9-1-1, which he created with Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, underway and a milestone 100th episode premiering April 4, Minear now has a big, long-running show on his hands, plus a successful spinoff in 9-1-1: Lone Star, which will debut its fifth season in the fall. So much so that he’s considering a name change if he returns to the social media platform.

Eddie (Ryan Guzman) has a new friend in 9-1-1‘s 100th episode, “Buck, Bothered and Bewildered,” and it doesn’t look like Buck’s (Oliver Stark) all that happy about it in TV Insider’s exclusive sneak peek. The logline teases that Buck becomes envious when Eddie forms a close bond with someone else, and that someone else is Tommy (Lou Ferrigno Jr.), the former member of the 118 who helped everyone fly to Athena (Angela Bassett) and Bobby’s (Peter Krause) rescue during the cruise ship disaster that was their honeymoon. Now, in our clip, Buck’s visiting Tommy to talk to him about his work after the 118. “What got you into flying, aside from the fact that I assume it’s like having a superpower?” he asks. Tommy shares that he was a pilot in the Army. Buck remarks that Eddie was in the Army as well, and Tommy says that he mentioned it.

When Fox canceled 9-1-1 last year, despite it being one of the most-watched and highest-rated scripted dramas, it was inevitable another network would continue the stories of Athena (Angela Bassett), Buck (Oliver Stark), and everyone in their orbit.
Thankfully, ABC dialed 9-1-1 and secured the show’s future for a seventh season, which has helped improve the network’s Thursday roster after just three episodes.
And now, the network has officially picked up 9-1-1 Season 8, keeping the show on the air for the 2024-2025 season.
Despite solid ratings, the show’s initial cancellation taught us to expect the unexpected, but we’re thankful it will be back for an additional season on ABC.
ABC has proven to be happy with the show by giving it Station 19’s timeslot and kicking things off with a big-budget Poseidon-inspired disaster that left some of our most beloved characters in danger.

Our favorite first responders aren’t going anywhere. 9-1-1 has been renewed for its eighth season. The news comes just two days ahead of the drama’s 100th episode, airing on April 4. The first responders of 911 will keep putting their lives on the line at ABC.
The network has renewed 911 for the 2024-25 season, which will mark its second on ABC and eighth overall. The series, from Disney’s 20th Television, Ryan Murphy Television and Brad Falchuk Teley-Vision, moved to ABC from Fox this season. The renewal comes as 911 is set to air its 100th episode this week.
The show was Fox’s top-rated drama for several seasons, and it’s picked up that mantle at ABC. Through its first three episodes of a strike-shortened seventh season, 911 is averaging 5.29 million same-day viewers (versus 4.7 million last season), and the March 14 season premiere more than doubled its initial audience with a week of streaming and other delayed viewing, going from 4.93 million to 11.76 million viewers. ABC also says that 911 is the network’s most watched current series across all platforms this season.

At times, 9-1-1 can be spectacle television.
What other show do you know that's been able to have a tsunami, landslide, and sinking cruise ship disaster happen throughout its run and pull it off with such aplomb?
But that's never been all there is to 9-1-1. The characters are the heartbeat, which is so often not the case on standard procedurals, and that mixture of spectacle, found family, emotional warmth, and humor has always set it apart.
9-1-1 Season 7 returned from the strike-induced elongated hiatus like it had something to prove.
Moving from Fox to ABC breathed new life into a show that will conclude this season with over 100 episodes to its credit, a feat that's very rare these days.
Choosing to usher in its ABC run with perhaps the biggest spectacle of all could have been seen as a gamble, even though it's something the series is historically known for doing.
