Not only was DC’s Stargirl an apparent casualty of the changes underway at The CW under new owner Nexstar, but a potential spinoff may have been thrown out with the bath water.
Back in Season 2, the DC series introduced the character of Jennie Hayden aka Jade (played by Ysa Penarejo), the daughter of Green Lantern Alan Scott. Having aged out of a group home, Jennie at the time was struggling with her own, recently discovered green energy-based powers, while also wondering where her twin brother Todd had landed.

This Tuesday on DC’s Stargirl, a genuine Jsa legacy is in the house, and that elicits reactions from both Pat and a green-with-envy Courtney.
At the close of the CW series’ Season 2 premiere, Court (played by Brec Bassinger) late one night discovered an intruder downstairs, and in turn found herself in a kitchen-trashing tussle with a young woman who identified herself as “Green Lantern’s daughter” (played by Ysa Penarejo of Red Ruby and Project Mc2).

Courtney Whitmore will be meeting many new faces on Stargirl Season 2!
The CW has dropped the official trailer for the forthcoming season, which will bring some new heroes and villains into the fold.
Of the heroes, we have Green Lantern's daughter, Jade, so that will undoubtedly change the show's dynamic.
Ysa Penarejo is set in that role.
Additional new faces include Nick Tarabay (Arrow) as Eclipso, Jonathan Cake (The Affair) as Injustice Society alum The Shade, and The Flash‘s John Wesley Shipp, who will appear as Golden Age speedster Jay Garrick.
It's an action-packed trailer, one that shows off some of the big changes headed our way.
While Stargirl Season 1 was shared between DC Universe and The CW, the series is now a CW exclusive, meaning that you'll have to watch the show on the network when it launches on August 10, 2021.

‘Stargirl’ Casts Nick Tarabay & Jonathan Cake As Eclipso & The Shade, Adds Ysa Penarejo As Recurring
Exclusive: DC’s Stargirl has found its Eclipso and The Shade – two of its primary villains for the series’ upcoming Season 2 on the CW. Nick Tarabay (The Expanse) will play the series regular role of Eclipso and Jonathan Cake (The Affair) will recur as The Shade. Additionally Ysa Penarejo (Project Mc2) will recur as an undisclosed DC character.
Stargirl creator/EP Geoff Johns teased the upcoming Eclipso and The Shade DC characters earlier this month at New York Comic Con. “Eclipso is so terrifying. I’ve always loved the character, and he’s a very different antagonist or villain than the [Injustice Society of America],” Johns said. He added that The Shade is “the most powerful of them all, and very threatening because no one knows exactly what he wants.”
