Update: There’s a reason that attacks on Taylor Swift continued throughout the day today: She’s a celebrity guaranteed to drive web traffic, particularly to right-wing media figures advancing ever more outlandish conspiracy theories. For much of today, social media focused on figures like Jack Posobiec and Benny Johnson, who benefit from the attention even if it’s to try to discredit them.
While a Swift endorsement of Joe Biden may very well hold enough sway to be of concern to Donald Trump’s campaign, the fixation on cooking up conspiracy theories about her has more to do with what draws attention in a hyper-competitive universe of voices on the right.
Erick Erickson, the conservative commentator, wrote on X/Twitter, “Let me explain what is actually going on with these hucksters, charlatans, and grifters on the right. They don’t believe it. They hope you might believe it. They...

To say that’s been a rocky month at Fox News would be an understatement. First, in April, the conservative cable news network agreed to pay $787.5 million to settle a defamation suit from Dominion Voting Systems for airing lies about the company interfering in the 2020 presidential election — avoiding a trial that was bound to prove intensely embarrassing. Days later, they fired their biggest primetime star, Tucker Carlson, following a period of internal warfare between the host and top executives. Ratings immediately took a dive, with a wide swath of conservatives...

Anti-choice conservatives are scrambling to place a positive spin on the failure of a Kansas ballot initiative on Tuesday that would have amended the state constitution to allow greater restrictions on abortion care. The red-state referendum going down in a landslide is the latest indication of the unpopularity the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. “This vote makes clear what we know: the majority of Americans agree that women should have access to abortion and should have the right to make their own health care decisions,” President...

I don’t need to send droplets of my blood in an envelope to some corporation to know that, for the most part, my forebears were not immigrants to this land. Yet I also know that unlike even our parents, my sister and I were fortunate to be born here with something approximating a complete set of civil rights. We are, in a different way of speaking, first-generation Americans.

A group of anti-Trump Republicans is uniting for a last-ditch effort to draft an independent candidate who can keep Donald Trump out of the White House. According to a report by the Washington Post, the group — which includes commentators William Kristol and Erick Erickson, as well as strategists Mike Murphy, Stuart Stevens and Rick Wilson — is essentially looking for someone (anyone) who can get just enough votes to stop both Trump and Hillary Clinton from getting the required 270 electoral votes needed to clinch the presidency. If that happens — and that’s a big if — the House of Representatives would choose...

Donald Trump continued to defend a controversial "blood" comment made earlier this week about Fox News Megyn Kelly, which some critics say was about her menstruating and being hormonal.
He told CNN in a Sunday interview, "Do you think I'd make a statement like that? Who would make a statement like that?"
Trump was referring to what he had earlier told CNN, the day after the Fox News Gop debate Thursday, where Kelly questioned him on his history of derogatory comments toward female opponents, to which he responded:
"Honestly, Megan, if you don't like it, I'm sorry. I've been very nice to you,...

Donald Trump has been disinvited to Saturday night’s RedState conservative event after making comments about Fox News’ Megyn Kelly about “blood coming out of her wherever.” “You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes. Blood coming out of her wherever,” Trump told CNN’s Don Lemon on his show Friday night. RedState editor Erick Erickson said the remark crossed the line and disinvited Trump from the RedState Gathering, a conservative event in Atlanta featuring Republican presidential contenders. What is it about some men? Did Mommy keep obsessive charts about their every urination and bowel movement during toilet training, marking down the time and size and color and form? Or did Mommy skip the toilet training altogether and they went to kindergarten still wearing diapers? Did Daddy take little Tommy into the shower and soap the penis just a little too much? What is it about some men who feel the need to piss and shit on any woman who dares to display talent, smarts, ability, and imagination?
Why do they do this?

Greta Van Susteren is calling out her fellow Fox News colleagues for a sexist report led by Erick Erickson about the fact that 40 percent of American households have a woman as the primary breadwinner.
In the segment in question, Erickson says, "I want to turn to a study and new research showing that women have become the breadwinners in this country and a lot of other concerning and troubling statistics." He later refers to the situation as watching "society dissolve around us." Lou Dobbs adds that this is the "disintegration of marriage." It can be watched in its entirety below.
"Have these men lost their minds? (and these are my colleagues??!! oh brother... maybe I need to have a little chat with them) (next thing they will have a segment to discuss eliminating women's right to vote?)," Susteren blogs.

Greta Van Susteren and Megyn Kelly are taking their male colleagues to the mat for suggesting female breadwinners are a danger to society. The female hosts vehemently smacked down comments uttered Thursday on Lou Dobbs' Fox Business program in which an all-male panel expressed revulsion at a new scientific study showing women being the primary earner for American families. One male pundit, Erick Erickson, even went so far as to argue the report is "anti-science" and that the male is the "dominant role" while females shouldn't be competing but should resume a "complementary role" in the nuclear family. He also alleged the survey revealed that "having moms as the primary...

Fox's Erick Erickson caused a stir yesterday when he suggested it's "anti-science" not to believe that men should play a "dominant" role over women in the family — pegged of a new poll that showed 40 percent of American households have women as primary breadwinners. The Morning Joe crew was incredulous. Through laughs and ridicule, the panel took on the "caveman" mentality.

In the social media age, it has become a tedious ritual to track the tasteless things that people often tweet during unfolding tragedies, and to take tiny-minded satisfaction in shaming them.
