One of Santa Barbara‘s premiere supercouples will reunite (again) on General Hospital, when Lane Davies, Nancy Lee Grahn’s scene partner on the long-defunct NBC sudser, pays a return visit to the ABC soap — but in a different role.
On NBC’s Santa Barbara, Grahn played legal eagle Julia Wainwright to Davies’ Mason Capwell, the black sheep of the uber-wealthy Capwell clan. An original cast member, Davies parted ways with Santa Barbara in 1989; Grahn, who joined its cast early in its run, stuck with the NBC soap until it went dark in 1993.

The judge who won the contest was given a save to round out the Top 7. The evening also saw an emotional tribute to 2005 Idol alum Mandisa, who recently passed away unexpectedly earlier this month at age 47. With Season 17 of “American Idol” coming to a close on May 19 with Alejandro Aranda, Laine Hardy and Madison VanDenburg as the final three, it has a good chance of being considered to be among one of the best seasons ever. But is it The best? That is yet to be determined. Certainly all three contestants have grown as vocalists and entertainers each and every week, especially on Sunday’s second-to-last show. But it is a little too early to see how No. 17 stacks ups with these four stellar seasons from the past.
America per saymay not have voted in our “best-ever” poll, but Gold Derby readers did — and 39% chose Season 8 when Kris Allen with his folky renditions of pop tunes somehow beat the versatile showman Adam Lambert. After a so-so revival last year when ABC took over “American Idol,” most fans are in agreement that the talent on display on Season 17 is a giant leap for singing kind. The show overall seems to be more entertaining. Yes, judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan are never going to be as scathingly funny as Simon Cowell in his snide heyday. But their personalities and musical knowledge complement each other and all three seem quite genuine in their quest to help the contestants to up their games.
Very early in this current edition of the show, the words “best season ever” were uttered. It is all subjective, of course, but with just one more episode and the three-hour finale left, No. 17 could go down in “Idol’ ‘history talent-wise once a winner is crowned. Of course, factoring into that assessment will be the winner’s post-show success as well.

The nominees are in for the 60th Annual Grammy Awards, and music's biggest night will feature some of your favorite artists ...though some were snubbed.
Singer-songwriter Andra Day announced the four major categories -- Best New Artist, Record Of The Year, Song Of The Year, and Album Of The Year -- on Tuesday's CBS This Morning.
As far as snubs go, Ed Sheeran was only nominated for Best Pop Solo Performance for his track, "Shape of You," to the shock of many of his fans. Lady Gaga and Kesha also received minimal nominations, despite the popularity of their albums.
However, Jay-Z and Kendrick Lamar earned quite a few Grammy nods, as well as Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee's "Despacito" song that features Justin Bieber.

American Idol has a lot in common with the country it's named after — a swift rise, fueled by lofty populist ideals and naked aggression, world conquest, such giddy heights, then the tragic skid into despair and and it's all somehow Fox's fault. The end of the Idol empire should have been a much bigger deal. It should have been an event. But instead, last night's farewell episode just kind of dribbled away, like the final season overall. Over the course of 14 seasons, American Idol has had its fair share of uncomfortable moments.
Chris Daughtry serving up a “Wait, I got eliminated?” grimace. Paula Abdul critiquing a song Jason Castro was about 45 minutes away from covering. One week from now, Season 13 of "American Idol" will be over. Actually, it will have been over for a day, since "Idol" will be shifting to its usual Tuesday/Wednesday Finale schedule, which allows Fox to slip in the season-closer on the last night of the 2013-2014 Nielsen season. Back when "American Idol" was the Biggest Show In All The Land, that used to be really meaningful. Now? Meh. But it doesn't hurt. Tonight's show will feature our Top 3 results, a performance by Scotty McCreery, plus long and tear-filled clip packages about the joys of visiting Fox affiliates in New Hampshire, Michigan and North Carolina. Settle in and enjoy the hour-long ride... 9:01 p.m. Et. After bringing out Grumpy Cat last week, Ryan Seacrest is pandering to dog lovers with an adorable puppy named Georgia. How do you squeeze out one of the last golden tickets of American Idol's thirteenth season? Contestants pulled out all the stops to score a trip to Hollywood on the last night of auditions in Omaha. Story: Danny Gokey on Making Hope 'Cool' and Possibly Returning to 'American Idol' (Q&A) Quaid Edwards kicked off the episode as a bit of reunion, since his mother is country singer Jolie Edwards of Jolie & The Wanted, who performed alongside Keith Urban. While his runs were inconsistent, his eagerness to learn and improve impressed the judges. "I'm as green as they come,"

From the opening seconds of The X Factor‘s Season 3 performance finale, you knew it was going to contain more hot air than a Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade float.
Alex & Sierra hovered above Los Angeles in a helicopter, like contestants on The Bachelor (albeit ones with an actual talent beyond dramatically declaring “He/She isn’t here for the right reasons!”). Jeff Gutt mounted a motorcycle on a mountaintop, put on his helmet and zoomed into the sunset. Carlito Olvrrrrr (Paulina’s pronunciation, not mine) strutted out of a chic hotel and into the back of a limo.

American Idol has spent the last few years making headlines for its rotating cavalcade of judges, and today is no exception: Harry Connick Jr. and returnee Jennifer Lopez have been officially announced as Keith Urban‘s co-panelists on the 13th season of the show. Connick was one of the show’s standout mentors of the past few seasons, and Lopez was — hmm, amiable? Fine? Un-hated? — during her two-season stint as an Idol barrister. Is this changeup what the show needs?
I’ve argued this in seasons’ past, but American Idol has never been about the judges’ table. You can claim that Simon Cowell was the heart of the show for the first nine seasons, but the fact is, Cowell helped make the show great not because he was mean or funny or even critical, but because he made the show’s vocalists competitive. That’s what any great reality show...

Time for the "American Idol" Top 4 results, but first we are treated to "Girl on Fire" by the remaining ladies. It's predictably awesome, with Angie kicking things off on the piano and everybody else bringing their big ol' voices.
When it's finally results time, the girls are put into Top 2 (Angie and Kree) and Bottom 2 (Amber and Candice). Innnteresting. The way the judges were bagging on Kree last night, we thought for sure she would be in the bottom.
But then! No one is leaving because the judges never used the save, so there's an extra week in the schedule. This week's votes will combine with next week's vote and then next week that person has to go home.
Congratulations to the women, they're all great.
It's like -- this almost isn't even fun anymore because they're all so good, you know? Most years, we can express outrage over somebody unjustly leaving early,...

Can't say we didn't see this coming. And when I say that, I have absolutely no idea what is going to happen tonight on American Idol. All I know is that no matter what it is, it won't be surprising, much to the chagrin of those in charge of all this madness. Our all-girl top 5 is now an all-girl top 4, but it remains to be seen when the all-girl top 3 will follow.
Sure, Ryan Seacrest promised a twist at the end of Thursday's episode, a "contingency plan" (that has allegedly always been in place) to make up for the scheduling gap that skipping the save created. But the only way it will be a shocking twist is if they eliminate no one, bring back Danny Gokey to compete in a new top 5 and announce that two people will be going home next week. Or something to that effect.

Ten dames stepped up to the mic on Wednesday night. Nine of them sang. One of them exploded.
And was rewarded for it.
And... I'm fine with it? Let this be a lesson to everyone: If you are a fine singer who gets an opportunity to wow the nation on American Idol, but you choose the lite-fm nonchalance of Alicia Keys' "No One," maybe you deserve to finish between 20th and 40th place. Maybe I think that's justified, Cristabel Clacky. And maybe if you're a howling claymation clown sorceress named Zoanette Johnson who sets the bar for unthinkable camp monstrosities with a performance of (wait for it) "The Circle of Life," maybe you really do earn your place in the Top 20 -- even if you can't sing, control yourself, or really do anything except blubber and wail like a watercolor-drenched Pagliacci. Maybe.

American Idol - where a lucky few rise to the top and sign a life-changing record deal, and where others... well, get voted off and ultimately everyone forgets about them. C’est la vie, we suppose? Hold on a minute. Chris Daughtry? Jennifer Hudson? How about Adam Lambert? They didn’t win it all? Don’t remember Ryan Seacrest announcing any of them as winners.
The funny thing is, some of these finalists are getting more radio play and have gone on to be more successful than those who were actually crowned the AmericanIdol.
Well, we’re currently deciding which of the American Idol winners is the best, but now it’s time to determine the “Best American Idol Finalist.” American Idol winners have had enough glory. It’’s time to show some love to those who unfortunately didn’t win it all. Were you rooting for David Archuleta? Maybe Haley Reinhart?...

For the final salvo in what’s arguably been the deepest, most evenly matched field in American Idol history, Tuesday night’s Season 11 finale came up surprisingly light in the competitive fireworks department.
Maybe the Top 2 — Jessica Sanchez and Phillip Phillips — were still heeding last week’s instructions from their fallen comrade Joshua Ledet: “No! More! Drama!” Or perhaps it was just the incongruousness of the matchup, which was akin to making a choice between a stunning courture evening gown and a perfectly battered old t-shirt. (“But what’s the occasion?” you might’ve asked.)
