Elon Musk‘s decision to rebrand Twitter as X is drawing some reactions from the company’s former employees. One notable response came from ex-Twitter Blue head Esther Crawford, who discussed her time at the social network in a lengthy post.
Crawford spent two-and-a-half years at Twitter, where she served as the Director of Product Management. She played an integral role in developing Twitter Blue, which Musk retooled and relaunched during his first few months as the self-styled “Chief Twit.” As Crawford’s team worked overtime to meet Musk’s demands, an image of her sleeping in her office went viral. Weeks after that photo was taken, Crawford and much of her team were let go.
That story exemplifies the erratic nature of Elon Musk’s Twitter tenure, but Crawford was quick to remind readers that the company’s pre-Musk culture was far from perfect. In her post, she describes...

New York, Dec 10 (Ians) Jay Bhattacharya, an Indian-origin Stanford University professor, who had said that Covid lockdowns would harm children, was placed on a “Trends Blacklist”, internal Twitter documents have revealed
The second installment of “Twitter Files” released by journalist Bari Weiss on her social media platform took the lid off cases where the microblogging website prevented the tweets from trending.
Weiss shares a screenshot on her Twitter, which shows Bhattacharya’s account marked as having a “recent abuse strike” and as being on a “trends blacklist”.
“…Take, for example, Stanford’s Dr Jay Bhattacharya who argued that Covid lockdowns would harm children. Twitter secretly placed him on a “Trends Blacklist”, which prevented his tweets from trending,” Weiss wrote on Twitter.
Weiss said that the “investigation reveals that teams of Twitter employees build blacklists, prevent disfavoured tweets from trending, and actively limit the visibility of entire accounts or even trending topics — all in secret,...

New Delhi, Dec 9 (Ians) Elon Musk on Friday released the “Twitter Files” season 2, revealing that the micro-blogging platform had a secret group that included former legal and public policy head Vijaya Gadde, then Cto Parag Agrawal and Yoel Roth, former global head of trust and safety, that made controversial decisions including “shadow banning” high-profile users without informing then CEO Jack Dorsey.
This time, the “Twitter Files Two” were released by Bari Weiss, Founder and Editor of The Free Press, on the micro-blogging platform and endorsed by Musk.
“Controversial decisions were often made without getting Jack’s approval and he was unaware of systemic bias. The inmates were running the asylum. Jack has a pure heart imo (in my opinion),” tweeted Musk.

San Francisco, Aug 23 (Ians) As Elon Musk is getting ready to fight a lawsuit by Twitter seeking to make him complete the 44 billion acquisition he had proposed, the tech billionaire’s legal team submitted a subpoena for evidence from former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey.
The microblogging platform and Musk are preparing for their October 17 trial date at the Delaware Court of Chancery to argue over his attempt to break their acquisition agreement, reports The Verge.
Dorsey stepped down as Twitter CEO for the second time last November and handed control of the company he helped create to Parag Agrawal.
He is running Square and Block and, reportedly, egging on Musk’s attempt to buy Twitter in private messages.
As per the report, it is tough to say what information Dorsey has that Musk couldn’t obtain by just texting him.
But with billions of dollars on the line, Musk’s...

On the day Twitter accepted a 44 billion takeover offer in April, former CEO Jack Dorsey said Elon Musk is the “singular solution I trust” for the company’s future.
The endorsement may come back to haunt Dorsey after Musk subpoenaed him on Monday to further a bid to walk away from the deal. The request for documents and communications relating to the number of fake accounts on the platform aim to bolster Musk’s arguments at the heart of the legal duel that he doesn’t have to complete the acquisition he proposed because Twitter misrepresented its user data.
Dorsey stepped down in November from his perch as head of the company he cofounded as he fielded escalating calls — and criticism — from Republican lawmakers who complained of the suppression of conservative voices on social media. He supported Musk’s acquisition of Twitter, noting...

New Delhi, Aug 19 (Ians) Elon Musk on Friday said that Parag Agrawal-led Twitter is avoiding sharing information on the actual number of bot and spam accounts on his platform, as his lead team sought documents from advertising technology firms working for the micro-blogging platform.
His legal team subpoenaed two ad tech firms — Integral Ad Science (Ias) and DoubleVerify — to provide documents or communications regarding the audit of the user base on the platform, the media reports said.
Both the advertising technology firms are based in New York.
A Musk follower posted on Twitter: “The only relevant document I found is a blog post on the Twitter site. So basically, some companies do audits for Twitter to verify ads on the platform, but…where are these audits? How do these audits work?”
The world’s richest man replied: “Those are the questions that Twitter is doing everything possible to avoid answering.

San Francisco, Aug 16 (Ians) A US judge has ordered Twitter to “collect, review and produce documents” from Kayvon Beykpour — the platform’s former general manager for consumer who was fired by the company CEO Parag Agrawal in May — and hand it over to Elon Musk’s legal team.
Musk’s legal team had asked the judge Kathleen St. Jude McCormick of the Delaware Court of Chancery that documents from 22 Twitter employees be handed over to them, who had direct information on the spam or “bot” accounts, reports Insider.
The judge has directed Twitter to hand over data of Beykpour only, who was a key executive at the micro-blogging platform, the report said late on Monday.
“Beykpour likely has insight and documentation regarding the bot analyses Musk is looking for,” the report added.

Twitter laid off a portion of its talent acquisition team as the company continues to manage costs ahead of the social media platform’s potential acquisition by Elon Musk.
The Wall Street Journal first reported that Twitter let go of a third of the employees in this unit. Twitter confirmed the layoffs, which it said are limited to that team, to The Hollywood Reporter.
The decision comes as the company has paused most of its hiring, as well as its backfilling of positions, except in critical roles. CEO Parag Agrawal previously said the company was in the midst of managing costs in a “very challenging macro environment.” In May, Agrawal fired Twitter’s general manager, Kayvon Beykpour, and Bruce Falck, the company’s revenue product lead.

San Francisco, Jan 26 (Ians) Twitter on Tuesday announced it has acquired Revue, an email service that makes it free and easy for anyone to start and publish editorial newsletters, for an undisclosed sum.
The move will allow Twitter to effectively utilise its user base of writers, journalists and publications that regularly use the service.
"Starting today, we're making Revue's Pro features free for all accounts and lowering the paid newsletter fee to 5 per cent, a competitive rate that lets writers keep more of the revenue generated from subscriptions," Twitter product lead Kayvon Beykpour said in a statement.
"Revue will give writers a way to monetise their audience -- whether it's through the one they built at a publication, their website, on Twitter, or elsewhere".
Twitter's acquisition of Revue places it in direct competition with Substack, a rival email newsletter service.
Revue was originally founded in 2015 in the Netherlands.

Twitter announced a reshuffling of its product leadership Thursday: The company is evelating its Gm of video Kayvon Beykpour to the head of product role. Former VP of product and engineering Ed Ho will stay on in a part-time role, focused on security. Engineering will now be led by Mike Montano.
Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey announced the leadership change internally in an email, which he subsequently shared publicly on Twitter. In it, Dorsey said that the new structure would help the company to be more agile, help with decision-making processes, and “foster stronger culture.”
Ho, who had been with Twitter since April of 2014, took a temporary leave of absence in May, and subsequently had a death in the family that prompted him to opt for a longer leave. “I know that I’ll never regret spending more time with my family over everything else,” he said on Twitter Thursday.
