The original Quantum Leap intro laid out the mission statement for the series.
“Dr. [Sam] Beckett finds himself leaping from life to life. Striving to put right what once went wrong and hoping each time that his next leap will be the leap home.”
Yet the original series ended with Sam (Scott Bakula) never returning home for good. He was still out there, lost in time. Helping people, yes, but without a home. It’s always been a sore spot for Quantum Leap fans. Why would the show end without giving Sam what he wanted?
When the new Quantum Leap series was announced as a continuation of the original series, fans found new hope. Perhaps they’d not only get to see Sam again but he’d finally get the chance to come home. Unfortunately the new series was canceled after only two seasons, without giving longtime fans the closure they desperately wanted.

Last month, NBC cancelled Quantum Leap after two seasons, and many are wondering why the series was not moved over to Peacock, like Law & Order: Organized Crime. The procedural drama is moving to the streaming service for its fifth season instead of remaining on NBC.
Raymond Lee, Caitlin Bassett, Ernie Hudson, Mason Alexander Park, Nanrisa Lee, Eliza Taylor, and Peter Gadiot starred in the Quantum Leap series, which follows Ben Song (Lee) as he relaunches the Quantum Leap project and finds himself traveling through time much like his predecessor Sam Beckett did in the original series.

NBCUniversal organized a move from NBC to Peacock for Law & Order: Organized Crime, but that’s one leap that Quantum Leap isn’t making. Last month, Quantum Leap fans learned that NBC had canceled the sci-fi drama after two seasons, bringing Dr. Ben Song’s (Raymond Lee) time-traveling adventures to an end. And last week, Organized Crime followers learned the Law & Order spinoff would be moving from NBC to Peacock for Season 5, meaning Detective Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni) will be solving cases (and perhaps swearing up a storm) in streaming. Now Jeff Bader, President of Program Planning Strategy at NBCUniversal Entertainment, has revealed why Quantum Leap didn’t get the Peacock treatment like its former network sibling. “Organized Crime is a very successful show; this isn’t a show that was on the bubble,” Bader told TVLine in a new interview. “It’s a show that works across the board,...

Back in 1989, the original Quantum Leap sci-fi series was one of the more popular shows on TV. Created by Donald P. Bellisario, the series consisted of a total of 97 episodes spread through five seasons. The original show starred Scott Bakula and Dean Stockwell. Bellisario revived the show in 2022, setting it 30 years after the end of the original series. The series ran for two seasons (31 episodes in total) on NBC, and we are sad to report that the series has now been canceled after two seasons on NBC.
This news doesn’t really come as a major shocker to anyone, as the series had been on the bubble ever since its two-hour season finale that aired on February 20, 2024. In contrast to this, the series had been renewed for a second season in December 2022, while the season was still being broadcast.

Has Dr. Ben Song (Raymond Lee) made his final leap? It would appear so, as Deadline has reported that NBC has canceled Quantum Leap after two seasons. The series had been on the bubble, so the news isn’t a complete surprise, but it’s sure to be disappointing for fans.
The follow-up to the original series takes place nearly 30 years since Dr. Sam Beckett stepped into the Quantum Leap accelerator and vanished. Now, a new team, led by physicist Ben Song (Lee), has been assembled to restart the project. Everything changes, however, when Ben makes an unauthorized leap into the past, leaving the team behind to solve the mystery of why he did it. The second season finale aired on February 20th. While it wasn’t written to be a series finale, Quantum Leap showrunners Martin Gero and Dean Georgaris hoped it could provide some closure while also setting the stage for new stories.

NBC has canceled the reboot of Quantum Leap after just two seasons.
The new series, starring Raymond Lee as physicist Dr. Ben Song, served as a follow-up to the 1989 series of the same name.
The season two finale aired back in February and it will now serve as the series finale as well.
The show’s co-showrunners Martin Gero and Dean Georgaris previously confirmed that the season two finale was not intended to be a series finale, but they had written it in a way to wrap up the storylines that had been followed in the season.
“When we got the early renewal for Season 2, we knew we were not going to end it on a cliffhanger,” Georgaris told Deadline. “We were going to end it on the first scene from Season 3, and we’re going to end it with the two characters together, but in a way that you never expected.

The NBC series following the original series starring Scott Bakula premiered in 2022. Physicist Ben (Raymond Lee) was working on the Quantum Leap accelerator when he surprised the rest of the team—fiancée Addison (Caitlin Bassett), Magic (Ernie Hudson), Ian (Mason Alexander Park), and Jenn (Nanrisa Lee)—by leaping (when it was supposed to be Addison). But the Season 2 finale saw them figure out the code that could bring Ben home, so he would stop leaping from person to person to right wrongs, only someone would have to trade places with him. Addison volunteered, but rather than Ben coming home, the two reunited in the past, setting the stage for two-person leaps. “Whenever you’re doing seasons of television, most of the time you don...

“Quantum Leap” has been canceled at NBC after two seasons, Variety has confirmed.
The show served as a followup to the 1989 show of the same name starring Scott Bakula and Dean Stockwell. The revamped version starred Raymond Lee as physicist Dr. Ben Song, whose attempt to restart the Quantum Leap project pioneered by Dr. Sam Beckett leads to him being trapped in different people’s lives in the past just like Beckett. As he seeks to put right what once went wrong in those lives, he “leaps” to different lives while hoping that each leap will be the leap home.
The cast of the series also included Caitlin Bassett, Ernie Hudson, Mason Alexander Park, and Nanrisa Lee. Steven Lilien and Bryan Wynbrandt developed the series and served as executive producers alongside Martin Gero via Quinn’s House, Dean Georgaris, Deborah Pratt, Chris Grismer, and Alex Berger. Universal Television was the studio.

On the one hand, we need more Quantum Leap after the way the second season ended, introducing a new element to its story. However, if that’s the end, it also is, in a way, a satisfying conclusion. The NBC drama, following the original series starring Scott Bakula, could now see two-person leaps. The team in the present—Magic (Ernie Hudson), Addison (Caitlin Bassett), Ian (Mason Alexander Park), and Jenn (Nanrisa Lee)—was able to use the Darpa code (which Eliza Taylor‘s Hannah created) to find a way to bring Ben (Raymond Lee), leaping around in time in people’s bodies to right wrongs, home. However, to do so, they realized, they’d need someone to swap places with him. Addison volunteered. But rather than Ben return home, the exes reunited in the past, setting the stage for a potential third season to follow both of them leaping. Quantum Leap...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the Quantum Leap Season 2 finale “Against Time.”] The team on Quantum Leap now has a code that leads to so many questions about these trips through time to right wrongs and the people making them and the different ways it could be used, which, of course, leads us to wonder: Could it bring Sam Beckett home? Heading into the two-part finale, the Quantum Leap team is short one member, with Gideon (James Frain), who provided the chip Ian (Mason Alexander Park) used to find Ben (Raymond Lee) and was none too pleased with what happened in the aftermath, insisting Magic (Ernie Hudson) fire Jenn (Nanrisa Lee). Instead, Magic resigned. “There’s a point when you live to fight again, and so sometimes you got to give up this battle, but you know that this is not the end of me,” Hudson tells TV Insider. “I’m more than what I appear to be. There’s something about the arrogance that Gideon has that assumes I have no other options or that I’m going to quietly disappear and let you come in and do whatever you want to do. So I think right away Magic is thinking, ‘Okay, what are the options?'” He also has...

Lily Gladstone is single-handedly expanding Indigenous representation in film with two upcoming projects.
The “Killers of the Flower Moon” Oscar nominee narrates and executive produces documentary “Bring Them Home/Aiskótáhkapiyaaya” about the buffalo restoration on the Blackfeet Reservation. The film will premiere at the Big Sky Documentary Film Festival on February 24 in Missoula, Montana.
“‘Bring Them Home’ highlights a crucial story of survival; of Iinnii, our Buffalo, of Blackfoot people and our culture, and of the very land which we call home,” Gladstone said in a press statement. “Like the Buffalo, our land does not acknowledge fences, and nor does our changing climate. For the Blackfeet, survival of the Buffalo has always been intrinsically connected to our survival as people — the revitalization of this knowledge is essential for not just us, but for all of us who share this planet, and who work to nurture hope for our collective future.

Exclusive: Lily Gladstone is set to reteam with Morrisa Maltz on Jazzy, a companion piece and follow-up to their acclaimed indie drama The Unknown Country, released by Music Box Films, which brought Gladstone a Gotham Award last fall. In addition to starring, Gladstone will exec produce, along with the team at Duplass Brothers Productions.
While The Unknown Country followed Gladstone’s character — the grieving Tana — on a lonely road trip across America, it also introduced the scene-stealing character of Jazzy, based on and played by Jasmine Bearkiller Shangreaux, a young Oglala Lakota girl growing up in South Dakota. The roles are flipped in Jazzy, with Shangreaux taking center stage and Gladstone supporting her narrative journey. Shot over six years, the film sees Jazzy and her peers grow up on camera as they navigate the space between childhood and young adulthood. When her best friend moves away, Jazzy experiences both a...

Fate. The main narrative thrust of the original and new Quantum Leap is changing fate. To put right what once went wrong. That doesn’t mean that Leapers like Sam (Scott Bakula) and Ben (Raymond Lee) can just change anything they want however. When Leapers are given their missions they’re often small, helping individual lives instead of making changes on a global scale. Why? Why can’t a Leaper, who’s supposed to make the world better, change bigger parts of the fate of history?
Season 2 episode 11 of the new Quantum Leap, “The Outsider” brings this question to the forefront. In the two previous episodes, Ben had learned current love interest Hannah’s husband was going to die of heart disease. In a full Back to the Future moment, Ben writes a letter to Hannah before that happens so she can prevent it.

First of all, Addison (Caitlin Bassett) and Tom (Peter Gadiot) start the episode by telling the others of their engagement—and plans to get married that day! “I planned a wedding once. Once was enough,” she explains. After, Tom checks that she’s sure they’re not rushing things. “If there’s one thing I have learned from all of this, it is do not wait to live your life,” Addison says. She doesn’t get the chance to tell Ben the news,...

Fortunately, we won’t have to wait long to find out more about how the team can possibly get Ben (Raymond Lee) home. Quantum Leap Season 2 will resume on Tuesday, January 30 at 10/9c on NBC.
