Exclusive; Tom Brady, a co-exec producer on AMC’s forthcoming horror drama NOS4A2, rather than the football player, has scored his latest feature film project. I hear that he is writing Tulia, the film based on book Tulia: Race, Cocaine, and Corruption in a Small Texas Town and directed by Seth Gordon.
The film tells the story of the 1999 case that saw 39 men, largely African-American, that were arrested over a drug scandal based on testimony from an unreliable cop. Set in the small Texas town of Tulia, the men were arrested and charged with dealing cocaine based on a federal investigation of corrupt cop Tom Coleman.
The film will explore how Vanita Gupta, who is now President and Chief Executive Officer of the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, and the NAACP fought to obtain acquittals of the majority of men and centers on issues of racial injustice.
It is produced by Mubina Rattonsey,...

Avengers 4: Directors Joe and Anthony Russo (Captain America: Civil War, above) shared a mysterious photo on social media, perhaps to commemorate the first day of production on the fourth Avengers movie (see below). The third installment, Avengers: Infinity War, is slated for release on May 4, 2018; Avengers 4 is set to open in theaters on May 3, 2019. [Facebook] Tulia: Seth Gordon (Baywatch, above with Dwayne Johnson) will direct Tulia. It's based on a book by Nate Blakeslee, Tulia: Race, Cocaine, and Corruption in a Small Texas Town, which in turn was drawn from a real-life case in which 39 people were sentenced to prison, largely due to the work of a "notoriously unreliable undercover officer." In July, you may recall an event that occurred in Hwange National Park, where the endangered Cecil the Lion was tragically killed at the hands of a dentist/hunter who, inexplicably, had no knowledge that the black-maned beast was something of a local icon. It was a story that occupied headlines for weeks, and a vitriolic response rang out across the four corners of the Internet.
Fast forward to today and The Wrap reports that Black Mass director Scott Cooper is in negotiations to helm a feature film that bears a striking resemblance to that tragic tale. It’s called American Wolf, and it even takes cues from a real-life event of its own, following “a hunter in Yellowstone National Park who accidentally kills an endangered American wolf, and the unlikely friendship that forms between him and the wildlife researcher who works with wolves in the park.”

His latest film, real-life mobster drama Black Mass, brings us a terrifying Johnny Depp. But director Scott Cooper is now being courted to tackle a story that also features guns and death, albeit with a more empathic element: American Wolf.Leonardo DiCaprio and his Appian Way company is part of the team trying to score Cooper’s services to direct this one for Warner Bros. It’ll be based on material from Texas Monthly senior editor Nate Blakeslee, who chronicled a hunter in Yellowstone National Park and his accidental killing of an endangered wolf. The animal, a female alpha who had been tagged and tracked by researchers in the park, was known as O-Six, or 832F. Despite the dystopian-sounding codename, she quickly became a star in the eyes of the scientists and an animal-loving public, and the outcry after her accidental shooting was so big, she received an obituary in The New York Times.

- Three years after Halle Berry was named to topline LionsGate’s upcoming release Tulia, a co-star has finally signed on. Billy Bob Thorton was captivated enough by the screenplay to agree to what will amount to a Monster’s Ball reunion. The script was penned by Karen Croner and given a rewrite by Franklin. Filming is set to begin April 30 in and around New Orleans. Berry, who signed on to the production in January 2004, will portray the key attorney for the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund in a case involving the 1999 arrests of 10% of the black population of Tulia, Texas. The arrests did not produce drugs or money, causing prosecutors and civil rights groups to denounce the bust as racial profiling. The undercover agent who conducted the bust was indicted for perjury; Texas Gov. Rick Perry pardoned most of the 46 arrestees in 2003. The screenplay is an adaptation of
