Fox is not moving forward with Season 17 of “So You Think You Can Dance.”
The network, in a statement released late Thursday, cited “health and governmental restrictions in response to the Covid-19 pandemic” as the reason for scrapping the season.
“While we were looking forward to its return this summer, we cannot meet the standards we’ve set for viewers and contestants in light of the show’s unique format, intricate production schedule and limited time,” the network said.

Fox had previously picked up a 17th season of the dance competition show back in February, before Covid-19 put all film and TV production on hold.

“So You Think You Can Dance” has been renewed for a 17th season at Fox.
Bailey Munoz was named the winner of the most recent season of the dance competition series. Munoz, a 19 year old break dancer, won $250,000, a cover spot on “Dance Spirit” magazine, and the title of America’s Favorite Dancer.
Auditions for the new season will begin next month. Dancers can submit a video online at the show’s official site, with selected dancers then being invited to auditions in Miami, New York, or Los Angeles. From those auditions, the dancers selected will be invited to Los Angeles to perform for judges Nigel Lythgoe, Mary Murphy and Laurieann Gibson. Full eligibility requirements and details are available at the show’s website.

The best and the brightest in TV came together at the Nokia Theatre this evening (September 22) for the 65th Annual Emmy Awards in Los Angeles.
Neil Patrick Harris held down the fort as the year’s Mc, entertaining the star-studded crowd with show-stopping performances and hilarious skits with “How I Met Your Mother” cast members and former Emmy hosts.
