Nickelodeon is embracing real-time production technologies with a new TV show that is being created with a game engine. “Meet the Voxels,” as the show is working-titled, is based on work done at the Nickelodeon Entertainment Lab, the network’s R&D unit for Ar & Vr. It is being developed to air across Nickelodeon’s channels around the world.
“Meet the Voxels” is about the life of a family of video game characters, including a Street Fighter Mom, a bubble-popping teenage girl, a 13-year old who is the star of a laser-tag game, a retired arcade game dad and a younger brother in search of a game franchise of his own.

Nickelodeon is upping their game when it comes to original programming. The kid-centric cable channel is developing Meet the Voxels (wt), an original virtual and augmented reality series from the mind of Chris Young, Senior Vice President of Nickelodeon’s Entertainment Lab.
This marks Nickelodeon’s first project that will use its use of cutting-edge virtual cinema technology, including real-time full body and facial performance capture, which takes innovative and immersive storytelling to another level.

It’s lucky 13 for the fun and fabulous Coney Island Film Festival! That’s right, 2013 will see the 13th annual edition of this New York City staple that combines the fine art of filmmaking with the rambunctious art of sideshow performing on Sept. 20-22.
The fest opens on the 20th with the documentary More Than the Rainbow, a profile of Matt Weber, an NYC cab driver who moonlights as an art photographer. The film is directed by Dan Wechsler.
Other docs screening at the fest include the uplifting tale of A Clown’s Recovery, directed by Matthew Broomfield; the sports drama of One Wall: Kings of Coney Island, directed by Joe Glickman; the profile of a Coney Island legend in The Commander in Chief, directed by Jim McDonnell; the struggle of Bending Steel, directed by Dave Carroll; and World Circus, directed by Angela Snow.

Hound, a new stage adaptation of the classic Sherlock Holmes novel The Hound Of The Baskervilles, will stalk New York City as part of the Planet Connections Theatre Festivity at 440 Theaters (440 Lafayette Street between Astor Place and East 4th Street) June 9-28. Written by John Patrick Bray, the new production, director Rachel Klein says, “is a dark and twisted retelling of the Holmes mythos.
“In Hound,” she continues. “Watson is a man dealing with the death of his wife. He has suffered a major blow as a doctor: He could not cure her. Furthermore, Sherlock Holmes has come bouncing back into his life after faking his own death and taking a three-year hiatus. Enter a case involving a hound of hell, and Watson is convinced that something has to exist in the afterlife—something that can take him to his dead wife.”
