The major TV news outlets are planning special coverage on Sunday, following a shooting at one of former President Donald Trump’s rallies that left the presumptive Republican nominee wounded but Ok.
The former president’s campaign said Trump was “fine” after being rushed off the stage in Butler, Pennsylvania, when gunfire erupted. Trump posted that he was hit in the upper part of his right ear. The shooting is being investigated as an attempted assassination on Trump, law enforcement officials told the Associated Press. A local prosecutor said the suspected gunman and at least one attendee are dead.
The White House said that President Joe Biden spoke to former President Trump Saturday evening.
While the event unfolded live on TV (broadcast networks jumped in with special reports minutes after the event unfolded, with Secret Service agents surrounding the president and leading him off the stage), the networks indicated late...

The suspense this Super Tuesday may be in watching how all of the networks try to make the night suspenseful.
Some 16 states and one territory will vote: Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont and Virginia. A Democratic caucus also is being held in American Samoa, and Iowa Democrats also will reveal their results.
But with Joe Biden and Donald Trump on their way to a rematch in the 2024 presidential election, coverage Tuesday will focus on margins of victory, when each candidate will clinch their nomination and what’s next from now until Election Day. There also will be attention to down-ballot races, including California’s Senate primary to fill the seat long held by Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-ca).

A small contingent of journalists gathered near the Canadian border earlier this morning to watch as Dixville Notch, Nh, continued its tradition of casting the first ballots on an election day.
Nikki Haley cleaned Donald Trump’s clock in this hamlet — 6 votes to none.
As the day goes on, network correspondents are fanning out across the state at precincts to talk to actual voters, after months in which the first-in-the-nation primary was judged and assessed by polls. Commentary and analysis is focusing on whether
Haley and her top surrogate, New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu, blitzed the airwaves on Monday, while Trump held a final rally in Laconia, Nh, where he predicted that Haley would be out of the race after tonight. He was interrupted by climate protesters, who have been a frequent presence at events in recent days.

Have you heard it’s cold in Des Moines? The subzero temperatures are making Monday’s caucuses in Iowa the coldest on record, a running theme of coverage throughout the day and into this evening. It’s not trivial, as the frigid weather may very well impact turnout.
As Iowa’s first votes of the 2024 presidential race come in, expect a lot of analysis, punditry and prediction, even if the results represent just a sliver of the primary electorate. The Hawkeye state’s primacy as the first-in-the-nation often obscures the peculiarities of the caucus system, unless there is some kind of glitch, which is what happened four years ago with the Democrats.
That said, networks see the caucuses as the kickoff of what is hoped a spike in viewer interest in the presidential contest, as was seen in 2020 and 2016. All of the broadcast networks are planning for ongoing coverage of...

Jesse Watters will take over Tucker Carlson‘s primetime time slot at Fox News. Carlson was ousted from the network effective immediately on April 24, and his show, Tucker Carlson Tonight, was simultaneously canceled. Fox News Tonight replaced Carlson’s spot, with former Trump aide Kayleigh McEnany temporarily hosting in May. Jesse Watters Primetime will move into the 8/7c time on the Fox News Channel starting Monday, July 17. Laura Ingraham‘s The Ingraham Angle is also moving up in the conservative network’s nightly lineup from 10/9c to 7/6c. Hannity will remain at 9/8c and Gutfeld! will move to 10/9c. Fox News @ Night with Trace Gallagher will move up one hour to 11/10c. Gutfeld is the only late-night talk show that’s still airing new episodes during the WGA writers strike. All of the other late-night titles have been airing reruns in solidarity with the striking writers. Jesse Watters Primetime is...

Fox News unveiled a new primetime lineup, with Jesse Watters moving to Tucker Carlson’s old 8 p.m. Et time slot and Laura Ingraham slotted earlier in the evening at 7 p.m.
Hannity will remain at 9 p.m. Et, while Greg Gutfeld’s show will take over Ingraham’s slot at 10 p.m. Et.
The network also said that Fox News @ Night with Trace Gallagher would move to 11 p.m. Et.
The changes will be effective as of July 17.
A scheduling shakeup had been anticipated since Fox News pulled Carlson’s show in April, leaving the 8 p.m. Et hour with a series of rotating hosts as Fox News Tonight. Although the show has been winning the time period against cable news rivals, it has generally drawn about half of Carlson’s audience, while Newsmax has had a ratings bump during the time period and MSNBC has improved its performance.

Fox News has settled on its new primetime lineup, promoting Jesse Watters to the 8 p.m. slot vacated by the abrupt firing of Tucker Carlson, pushing the “Gutfeld!” late-night juggernaut an hour earlier to 10 p.m. and putting Trace Gallagher to the 11 p.m. hour, the network announced Monday.
Also on the movie is Laura Ingraham, whose “Ingraham Angle” has solidly won the 10 p.m. spot since its 2017 debut, with a shift to 7 p.m. to kick off the weeknight primetime lineup, taking over Watters’ most recent start time. Fox News is blowing up its primetime lineup in a dramatic reset following the ouster of Tucker Carlson in April.
The new lineup will see Fox News move Jesse Watters to 8 p.m., effectively replacing Carlson. Laura Ingraham, formerly the 10 p.m. host, will shift to 7 p.m.; and Greg Gutfeld will move to 10 p.m. Sean Hannity will remain at 9 p.m.
In addition, the 11 p.m. hour will now be the home to Fox News @ Night, the news program anchored by Trace Gallagher, which previously ran at midnight.
While the new schedule completely changes almost every hour of primetime, it also leans on familiar faces, a move that could help quell ratings concerns at 8 p.m. in recent weeks.

Jesse Watters, the wisecracking conservative who got his start with man-on-the-street interview segments for Fox News opinion host Bill O’Reilly’s 8 p.m. program, is about to enjoy a homecoming of sorts.

Sean Hannity wants you to know that you can’t tell him what to do! Not even Joe Biden. Not even if it involves something like “breathing toxins into your lungs.”
During Hannity’s Fox News show on Wednesday, Hannity was, per usual, mad about something Joe Biden’s administration might do. In this case, the Wall Street Journal report that the Fda might ban sales of all e-cigarette products sold by the company Juul.
Now, Hannity could have read the article itself to see that if WSJ’s report is accurate, Biden’s Fda isn’t actually planning to ban e-cigarettes — just products by the company Juul. Other makers of e-cigarette products wouldn’t be affected. But instead, Hannity said this:

Fox News provided more details of how correspondent Benjamin Hall, severely injured in Ukraine, was evacuated from the region, over the border to Poland and ultimately to a hospital in Germany.
Last week, cameraman Pierre Zakrzewski and Oleksandra “Sasha” Kuvshynova, who was working as a freelance consultant for the network, were killed when their vehicle was struck by incoming fire near Kyiv. Hall was with them as they reported on the Russian invasion, and he is recovering at Landstuhl Medical Center.
In a segment on Monday, anchor Dana Perino credited Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and the Polish and Ukrainian Armed Forces for their assistance, as well as the group Save Our Allies. It was formed last year in response to the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan amid the U.S. withdrawal, as a way of quickly mobilizing to rescue Americans and other allies behind the border.

Fox News is making a return to Twitter, more than a year after going silent on the social-media platform.
At 2:18 p.m. on Nov. 8, 2018, the Fox Corporation-owned cable-news outlet issued a tweet telling its followers that a federal appeals court had ruled against the Trump administration’s desire to end the U.S. program that gives immigrants a chance to continue working and living in the United States. After that, the network’s main feed went silent. Since that time, there has not been a headline, a video, an alert or even a programming note.
Now the news outlet is poised to resurface on the venue, with executives envisioning the chance to use it as a service or a means of getting information about the coronavirus outbreak to followers. Approximately 18.5 million people follow the network on Twitter.

The nation’s biggest news networks are being swept along by the very headlines they’re trying to deliver.
Two of the biggest TV-news operations have had to make noticeable changes to their most important programs and redirect personnel behind the scenes in the earliest days of America’s coronavirus crisis, even as those staffers come under increasing pressure to keep America informed about the latest developments around the contagion.
NBC News took “Today” regulars Al Roker and Craig Melvin off the air Monday, citing the discovery that a staffer who works for the 9 a.m. production of “Today” had developed “mild” symptoms after testing positive for coronavirus.
Fox Business Network said it would scrap most of its primetime schedule by putting two of its programs on hiatus “until further notice” in order to staff coverage of the coronavirus crisis elsewhere within Fox News Media.
The network said in a statement that its 8 p.m. hour, “Trish Regan Primetime,” and 9 p.m. hour, “Kennedy,” would be replaced by long form programming.
“Due to the demands of the evolving pandemic crisis coverage, we are deploying all resources from both shows for staffing needs during critical market hours,” the network’s statement said.
Regan, who hosts a show that tends to focus on the political, has generated some criticism in recent days for hosting segments suggesting that liberals were overstating the effects of the spread of coronavirus to discredit President Donald Trump. A graphic that accompanied one segment that aired Monday read “Coronavirus Impeachment Scam.”

Fox News said it would expand Shannon Bream’s 11 p.m. program, “Fox News @ Night,” to 1 a.m. and then have Los Angeles-based anchor Trace Gallagher anchor the 1 a.m. to 4 a.m. hours. On weekends, Fox News will add two different two-hour editions of “Fox Report,” anchored by Jon Scott, on Saturday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The announcement marks the first tangible changes made to one of the major cable-news network’s schedules in the wake of so much attention being given to the coronavirus pandemic in the U.S.

Fox News is temporarily filling in Shepard Smith’s 3 p.m. Et time slot with a rotating group of anchors that includes Bret Baier, Chris Wallace, John Roberts, Brit Hume, Shannon Bream, Bill Hemmer, Jon Scott, and Trace Gallagher, a Fox News spokesperson confirmed on Monday.
Last Friday, Smith announced that he was stepping down and leaving the network immediately. “Shepard Smith Reporting” will now become “Fox News Reporting,” led by the aforementioned group of anchors, until a permanent replacement is found, as The Wrap reported last week.
In an interview with Variety on Monday, Fox News president and executive editor Jay Wallace said that the replacement show will still remain “a solid news hour” with a designated anchor. The executive had also said Smith’s announcement last Friday had been a “tough day for a lot of people” at Fox News.

Shepard Smith has left the Fox News building, but his hour will remain staffed by employees from the network’s news division.
Bret Baier, Chris Wallace, Brit Hume, Shannon Bream, Martha MacCallum, Bill Hemmer and John Roberts are among the Fox News Channel news anchors who will do a stint in the 3 p.m. hour vacated late last week by Shepard Smith, the veteran anchor whose departure stunned Fox News staffers as well as many media observers. Fox News executives will likely unveil a new, news-focused hour in the timeslot next year with a specific anchor, Jay Wallace, president and executive editor of Fox News Media, told Variety in an interview. Trace Gallagher, a Los Angeles-based correspondent, will kick off a stint at 3 p.m. today, he said.
“This is going to remain a solid news hour, with our best news stars,” Wallace said, adding: “Journalism is a huge part of the mandate here.

Fox News’ Shepard Smith will step down from his position as chief news anchor, managing editor of Fox’s breaking news unit, and anchor of “Shepard Smith Reporting,” according to a Friday announcement from Fox News president and executive editor Jay Wallace. Smith has been one of the network’s rare critics of President Donald Trump.
Friday afternoon’s episode of Smith’s show was his last, the network said. Until a replacement for Smith’s show is announced, a rotating group of anchors — including Jon Scott and Trace Gallagher — will host his 3 p.m. Et time slot, a Fox News spokesperson told TheWrap. For now, the show will be renamed “Fox News Reporting,” according to the spokesperson.
“Recently I asked the company to allow me to leave Fox News and begin a new chapter. After requesting that I stay, they graciously obliged,” Smith said in a statement. “The opportunities...

Updated with more details: Shepard Smith is stepping down from Fox News Channel, effective with Friday afternoon’s edition of Shepard Smith Reporting.
The anchor has been a frequent target of President Donald Trump’s attacks, after Smith had been critical of the president at certain points in his administration. Smith’s abrupt departure also comes just hours after Attorney General Bill Barr met with Fnc owner Rupert Murdoch at the media mogul’s New York City residence.
Chris Giglio, a spokesman for Smith, said later Friday that “there is no truth to the rumor about the Barr meeting having anything to do with Shep’s departure.” Added Giglio to the New York Times: “This was Shep’s decision and his alone.”

Even as CNN improves its reporting on Obamacare, Fox News continues the larger mainstream media trend of reporting on supposed Obamacare horror stories that don't quite pan out. On Monday night's The Kelly File, Megyn Kelly featured a report by Trace Gallagher that told the sad story of a family that might have to cut down on manicures and such, in order to afford their Obamacare plan. Turns out, the story doesn't really add up.

For the past several weeks, the conservative media has taken a sudden interest in meticulously tracking firearm purchases, as long as they're made by the spouse of a gun violence survivor. Breitbart News has put out over a dozen stories accusing Mark Kelly of lying about gun purchases he says he made in order to prove a point, and Fox News "hard news" personalities Megyn Kelly and Trace Gallagher played along. Now that Kelly has published irrefutable proof of his claim, Breitbart News and Fox News have suddenly fallen silent about Mark Kelly's purchases.

The right-wing media has been engaged in an attempt to smear retired astronaut Mark Kelly, husband of former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords (D-az), as a hypocrite for purchasing an Ar-15 last week. On Fox News' America Live Tuesday, host Megyn Kelly and reporter Trace Gallagher expanded on the right-wing smear by falsely citing an Arizona law about disposal of seized or found property.

The first post-election political news cycle began with reports that President Obama is considering Sen. John Kerry as his next Secretary of Defense (and Ambassador Susan Rice for Secretary of State), which prompted Fox News to take the reasonable step of summarizing the 2004 Democratic presidential nominee's smearing at the hands of Swift Boat Veterans For Truth, a campaign that became political shorthand for vicious political dishonesty. Less reasonably, Fox presented the Swift Boaters' allegations with credulity, and even less reasonably, did so during the network's "hard news" program, America Live. Host Megyn Kelly introduced Trace Gallagher's report by saying that the "controversy" centered around a group of veterans who "challenged his record as a war hero."...

On Wednesday's America Live with Megyn Kelly, Trace Gallagher reported on a rather disturbing story from America's wildly successful War on Drugs: [Ucsd student Daniel Chong] was at a friend's house celebrating April 20th, which is a day that marijuana users set aside to smoke pot. The next day, the DEA raided the house, took him and eight others down to a local DEA office where there were five holding cells. He was questioned and then told he was free to go. He was even offered a ride home by one of the agents, but instead he was placed into one of those holding cells for almost five days [with] no food, no water, no human contact.

Megyn Kelly made a bold confession on her Fox News program this afternoon, revealing that she was caught shoplifting at a Kmart when she was a teenager. "I have to tell you when I was 12 years old, I shoplifted," Kelly admitted. Correspondent Trace Gallagher stunnedly gasped. "What?!" "I got caught shoplifting at a Kmart...It was really my then best friend that made me do it." Kelly explained.

Yesterday, we told you about a Tweet sent by Fox News' official account, asking followers whether or not a J. Crew email ad showing a woman painting her son's nails pink was "crossing the line." Today, America Live decided to tackle the same question by bringing on Trace Gallagher, himself a father of two girls, who shared that he wasn't even sure he'd allow his daughters to wear hot pink nailpolish. The show noted that "some parents" are "outraged" over the ad.

Today on Fox News Megyn Kelly and Trace Gallagher explored an embarrassing admission made by a Port of San Diego security officer who implied there were in fact weapons of mass effect found somewhere in San Diego. The Department of Homeland Security attempted to deny the officer's unintentional reveal by suggesting he was confused and nervous, but the tape suggests he may have been overcome with those emotions only after he spoke about the supposedly found weapon.

Now this story does not appear to be going away. After a weeks worth of reports of mass deaths of birds, crabs and fish, yet another example of this seemingly strange phenomenon has come across the wires today with a report of roughly 8,000 dead turtle doves found dead in Italy, with a strange blue substance on their beaks. Fox News' Megyn Kelly introduced the segment asking her cohort Trace Gallagher for the who, what and why behind this story. Alas, there are more questions than answers at this point.

Los Angeles County, yesterday, approved a measure to ban single-use plastic bags for the sake of the environment. In covering the story, Fox News' Shannon Bream (in for Megyn Kelly) and Trace Gallagher asked the tough question, namely, how're people going to pick up dog poop? As usually happens when a major news network spends a minute discussing poop, I was ready to write a whole bunch of snarky jokes and then call it a day. But then, something happened. I realized it was a pretty good question.

Fox News reporter Trace Gallagher had just filed a report about a North Carolina woman who had been brought back to life after her heart had stopped for 15 minutes when he tossed back to America Live host Megyn Kelly. The astonished Fox News host tried hard to wrap her head around his explanation, and somehow arrived at the hope one can divine from this story - that having your spouse stuff you in the freezer could one day save your life. Sound funny? Maybe - but not nearly as funny as Kelly found it.

Fox News' Trace Gallagher just reported that two F-15 military jets are currently escorting a commercial passenger airliner coming in from Canadian airspace into JFK airport. The flight is reported to have originated in Yemen, laid over in United Arab Emirates and is now entering American airspace. This, on a day when there may have been a possible terrorist attempt, or trial run, that has lead to a number quarantined airplanes and inspections of numerous cargo planes around the country.
