British stage, film and television actor Richard Griffiths died yesterday due to complications in the aftermath of heart surgery at Coventry hospital. He was 65 years old. Though best remembered for his performance as Uncle Vernon in the Harry Potter flicks, Griffiths was a well-respected name on the British stage, having won a number of awards ( Tony. Laurence Olivier, and Drama Desk awards.) for playing a free-spirited gay teacher -- who likes his male teenage students a tad too much -- in Alan Bennett's play The History Boys.
