Von Essen joins Golden Globe Award winner Kathleen Turner Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf, Tony Award nominee Geneva Carr Hand to God, Olivier Award winner Lesli Margherita Matilda and Taylor Louderman Kinky Boots.

As the Big Apple’s only solo comedy festival for four years strong, Solocom (running Nov. 17–20) boasts over 130 performances, approximately 120 of which are world premieres of new material. The rest are encores of fan and festival favorites from years past, like Polly Esther’s “Dammit, Jim! I’m a Comedienne, Not a Doctor!”. Madonna movie Desperately Seeking Susan is set to become a stage musical featuring the songs of Blondie and Deborah Harry. The London production, which is the brainchild of Peter Michael Marino, will be directed by Angus Jackson when it begins a run at the Novello Theatre on October 12. Blondie frontwoman Harry has written a new song, "Moment Of Truth," for the show, which will play alongside her established hits, like "Heart of Glass." British actress Emma Williams will star as Susan, the part originally played by Madonna in the 1985 movie, which also featured Rosanna Arquette and Aidan Quinn.
