One of the quirkiest people to ever play “Survivor,” Carolyn Wiger, was deemed to be a threat by her fellow Season 44 castaways at numerous times during the game. But alas, she didn’t receive a single jury vote at the final tribal council. (Read our minute-by-minute finale recap.) Instead, her Tika bestie Yamil “Yam Yam” Arocho earned a leading seven out of eight ballots, making him the 44th winner, while Soka’s fire queen Heidi Lagares-Greenblatt won over the remaining juror (Danny Massa).
In Gold Derby’s overnight poll, we asked “Survivor 44” viewers to name who should have won $1 million grand prize, and Carolyn received a majority of the poll results, at 54%. As for the others in the Final 3, Yam Yam came in second place with 24%, while Heidi was close behind at 22%. Do You agree with the poll results of your fellow fans? Who will win “Survivor 44”? The current season will wrap up on Wednesday, May 24 on CBS with a three-hour episode that crowns the winner from among the Final 5 castaways. All season long, Gold Derby readers made their “Survivor” winner predictions for which contestant they thought would go the distance and claim the $1 million grand prize. As of this writing, the last remaining players are Yamil “Yam Yam” Arocho, Carolyn Wiger, Carson Garrett, Heidi Lagares-Greenblatt and Lauren Harpe. On Wednesday’s 12th episode of “Survivor 44,” the Tika three stuck together and gained a new ally in Heidi Lagares-Greenblatt. Together they all voted to send home Jaime Lynn Ruiz, whose exuberant spirit remained until the bitter end. “Oh my gosh! I’m so grateful to make the Top 6. This is a huge accomplishment,” she stated after leaving the game. Read on for Jaime’s “Survivor 44” exit interview from the end of the episode.
But Jaime’s confessional soon turned uncomfortably awkward, as she once again brought up her fake immunity idol that she believed to be real. “Finding an idol, that was one of my number-one goals and I’m so grateful,” she declared. “I am proud of myself for overcoming so many fears. I can do anything at this point. I had so much fun playing my favorite game in the entire world.”

Of the players eliminated so far on “Survivor 44,” Gold Derby asked viewers in our recent poll to name who should return for a future All-Stars season. The poll results are in and there is one name that tops the list of over two-thirds of voters: Frannie Marin! The only other castaway to earn more than 10% of the vote is Matthew Grinstead-Mayle, the adventurous superfan that left the game by choice due to a shoulder injury. (Note that we did not include Bruce Perreault as an option because Jeff Probst has already invited him back.)
Here are the complete poll results for who fans want back as an All-Star:
67% — Frannie Marin
14% — Matthew Grinstead-Mayle
7% — Matt Blankinship
5% — Brandon Cottom
2% — Kane Fritzler

CBS has released a “Survivor 44” deleted scene that takes place on Day 18 at the Va Va camp, and it’s a doozy. After Frannie Marin wins reward and takes Lauren Harpe, Heidi Lagares-Greenblatt and Carolyn Wiger with her to the Survivor Sanctuary, the other four players back at camp talk advantages. When Carson Garrett admits he’s “not good at” finding things, Danny Massa brags, “You guys have seen me. I’ve been looking.”
We then get quick-cuts of Danny searching for advantages in the jungle as he tearfully narrates, “The lack of food? It sucks. Really not fair. I feel like I could have been over there instead of … looking for this idol, dawg!” The 32-year-old New York firefighter bursts out laughing as he holds up the red triangular amulet, confirming his tears weren’t real.

Following this week’s elimination of Frannie Marin from “Survivor 44,” only seven castaways remain in the game to be named Sole Survivor. That means 11 other players have already fallen by the wayside, either voted out of the game or evacuated for medical reasons. Setting aside Bruce Perreault, who Jeff Probst has already invited to play again, we want to know which of the other 10 eliminated players You think is deserving of a second chance in an All-Stars season? Vote in our “Survivor 44” poll below.
Very few players voted out in the first few days of the game have ever been invited back, but Maddy Pomilla, Helen Li and Claire Rafson are as good of picks as any would be. On Wednesday’s 10th episode of “Survivor 44,” Frannie Marin felt the “renegade excitement” of not having protection at Tribal Council for the first time. Her two previous immunity challenge wins and another win at the reward put a target on her back that even her previous Soka allies were too intimidated by to let her remain in the game. Read on for her “Survivor 44” exit interview from the end of the episode.
The vote against Frannie began with Danny Massa putting her name on the table to the other three players that were not picked by her to partake in the reward. The challenge win was Frannie’s third out of five in the individual stage of the game and that made Danny nervous that she could be unbeatable in the end. Hey, "Survivor" fans. Tonight, May 3, 2023, another new episode of Survivor season 44 did hit the air, and another unlucky contestant got their walking papers at the end of it. Tonight's episode kicked off with Frannie talking to the private cams about the last tribal council meeting, which sent Kane Fritzler packing. She said, "I was out of the loop for voting out Kane. I feel like I have no one on my side." Lauren told the private cams that she also felt left out of the loop because she was also on the wrong side of the votes at the last tribal council meeting. Carson lied to Jamie, telling her that Kane ratted out that she had an idol. However, it was really Carson who ratted her out. Jamie definitely bought it, and she was pretty upset. She told the private cams, "I need to find a new idol." After all of that,...

CBS has released a “Survivor 44” sneak peek video for the Wednesday, May 3 episode, titled “Full Tilt Boogie,” and fans of Carson Garrett should get a kick out of it (watch above). The self-prescribed “space nerd” returns to camp after voting out Kane Fritzler, and he immediately starts spinning a web of lies to Kane’s former ally Jaime Lynn Ruiz about her fake idol (which she thought was real). Remember, Jaime gave it to Kane for safe keeping in case someone had a Knowledge Is Power advantage, and he ended up leaving with it in his sock.
“I focus my game upon relationships,” Carson tells the camera in a private confessional. “And so it’s really important for me to focus on damage control.” Carson then whispers to Jaime in the jungle that he always “wanted to work” with Kane, but that he couldn’t after Kane spilled the beans...

So far during this 44th season of “Survivor,” the players have gotten lucky with the weather in Fiji. But that all changes on Day 16 at Va Va, as the remaining nine castaways prepare for their first storm of the season. In CBS’s latest “Survivor 44” deleted scene, we see Heidi Lagares-Greenblatt and Frannie Marin walking through the jungle when they’re caught off guard by thunder and wind.
“What the hell?” shouts a confused Frannie. And Heidi responds, “That’s rain. Let’s go back, we’re gonna have to get ready.”

At camp, Carson Garrett tells Carolyn Wiger that he can tell rain is coming because he can see the “inflections in the light” in the distance. (Spoken like a true NASA nerd!) “I’m gonna try to start a fire,” Carson later remarks.

On Wednesday’s ninth episode of “Survivor 44,” Kane Fritzler made the risky decision of sitting out of the immunity challenge in order to help secure a bag of rice for the tribe. Though his fellow castaways assured him that those who sat out wouldn’t be voted for, they went back on their word and sent Kane to the jury. Read on for his “Survivor 44” exit interview from the end of the episode.

Though Frannie Marin clocked the Tika three as successfully playing from the middle of the game, Danny Massa and Heidi Lagares-Greenblatt insisted that Ratu was still a bigger threat to Soka than Tika.

The April 26 hour ended in a bit of a shocker, as Kane Fritzler was voted out with Jaime Lynn Ruiz‘s fake idol in his pocket. Jaime had secretly given Kane her fake idol (which she believed to be real) earlier in the day, in order to prevent someone from stealing it thanks to a potential Knowledge Is Power advantage. For the record, no such advantage has appeared yet in Season 44.
We know what you’re thinking: once Jeff Probst started reading Kane’s name aloud in vote after vote, why didn’t Kane pass Jaime’s fake idol back to her? Well, simply put, it’s not allowed. Last year, Probst addressed this exact rule with Entertainment Weekly when a similar scenario happened during “Survivor 43.”

After Danny Massa used his hidden immunity idol last week to save Frannie Marin, the castaways now suspect there’s “another idol in circulation,” which is typically what happens on the CBS reality TV show. In the “Survivor 44” sneak peek video for Episode 9 (watch above), Kane Fritzler, Jaime Lynn Ruiz and Danny are seen searching the jungle for an idol shortly after Brandon Cottom was voted out of the game.
The clip begins on Day 16 at the Va Va camp. “The number one mantra in this game is don’t get cocky,” Kane tells Jaime. “I felt comfortable last night, and I was like, ‘It’s okay to feel comfortable. I’m in the majority alliance’ … I got duped.” To recap, the former Ratu members were completely blindsided by Danny playing his idol, which negated the six votes cast for Frannie, resulting in Brandon’s elimination.

In the clip, Kane and fellow former Ratu member Lauren Harpe wake up early to collect firewood, which in the game of “Survivor” almost always doubles as an idol hunt. In the latest episode of Jeff Probst‘s “On Fire with Jeff Probst” podcast, the long-time “Survivor” host confesses that the CBS reality TV show is purposefully designed to be “seen through the eyes of kids.” The conversation came at the end of the podcast when a fan accused him of making the show only for himself.
“I don’t think he’s wrong in that yes, on some level, I am making ‘Survivor’ for me,” Probst readily admitted, as reported by Dalton Ross (EW). He then added, “But I will say that my version of the show, for me, is seen through the eyes of kids. So that is my point of view.”

Heading into the eighth episode of “Survivor 44,” the remaining players had just been divided into two teams by host Jeff Probst. The winning group was spared having to vote someone out, while the losing group went to tribal council and ousted Matt in a narrow vote over Yam Yam. As the game heads in to what should be the first straight-forward merge vote of “Survivor 44,” where we hope all Top 10 players left have a say in who goes home next, the game seems to have split unevenly down original tribal lines. Brandon Cottom, Jaime Lynn Ruiz and Lauren Harpe took the upper hand in episode 7 to cut down the Soka numbers by one, but have curiously left Kane Fritzler on the outside looking in. Soka members Danny Massa, Heidi Lagares-Greenblat and Frannie Marin are now in defense mode, while Tika contestants Carson Garrett, Carolyn Wiger and Yamil “Yam Yam” Arocho are still trying to find out how they fit in to the plans.

Shortly after “Survivor 44” shook up the merged tribe and sent home Matt Blankinship in a tearful tribal council, CBS released a deleted scene from Episode 7 showcasing an overwhelmed Kane Fritzler. On Day 14, just prior to the immunity challenge, the 25-year-old law graduate (and “Dungeons & Dragons” enthusiast) from Canada says he now has some “skin in the game” because he received a vote at the prior tribal council.
To recap, Kane’s name was written down by Carolyn Wiger in a 1-3-7 vote over Yamil “Yam Yam” Arocho and Josh Wilder (who went home). “It was a little spicy,” Kane told the camera about seeing Jeff Probst holding a parchment with his name. “It tells me that I’m playing, I’m not hidden anymore.”

The April 12 episode of “Survivor 44” delivered yet another twist in the form of a brand new “Control a Vote” advantage. This power, which expired later that night, allowed the bearer to dictate how another person would vote at tribal council. So did the advantage holder, Heidi Lagares-Greenblatt, use it correctly by targeting the right person? Or did the power go to waste? Vote in our poll below and then defend your choice in the comments section.
To recap, after host Jeff Probst divided the 11 remaining players into two teams, Heidi’s group, won safety plus a peanut butter and jelly reward. That meant someone on the opposing group would be voted out.

Heading into the sixth episode of “Survivor 44,” the Tika tribe had just been told by host Jeff Probst that they wouldn’t have to attend tribal council because Matthew Grinstead-Mayle had left the show due to his bum shoulder. It’s the episode of Survivor 44 we’ve all been dreading — the “mergatory.” That’s right; Survivor producers are sticking with the “new era” “earn the merge” concept in season 44, meaning that Tika, Soka, and Ratu are now living on one beach, but they aren’t technically merged. We’ll get further into this concept in our recap, but let’s just hope that the Survivor 44 cast somehow makes this awful twist somewhat bearable in episode 6.

CBS has released yet another deleted scene from “Survivor 44” Episode 5, this time focusing on Josh Wilder. The 34-year-old surgeon from Atlanta started out the game on the Soka tribe, where he was sitting between two dominant pairs. Then he switched over to Tika, where he became a target between the sometimes-friendly, sometimes-warring Yamil “Yam Yam” Arocho and Carolyn Wiger.
On Day 11, Josh gives some insights into his thinking process after the tribe receives tree-mail about the impending immunity challenge (watch above). Yam Yam reads the parchment aloud: “Nothing comes between friends as annoying as a piece of rope. If you are the one dragged to the end, a gentle touch is your only hope.”

It’s “merge” time for the “Survivor” contestants as the “Next Time On” promo confirmed that all the tribes will coalesce on the same beach. Last week’s fifth episode saw the leave of Matthew Grinstead-Mayle from Ratu after sustaining an injury to his shoulder in the premiere when he fell off of a large rock. This is the second player this season to exit the game due to an injury, and though he technically was not involuntarily medically evacuated like Bruce Perrault was in the premiere, the pain was too excruciating for him to continue forward. Due to Matthew’s departure, the Tika tribe did not have to attend Tribal Council after losing the immunity challenge, but how will the rest of the cast look together when they unite on one beach? Read on as we’re breaking down the game.

Then, be sure to sound off in the comments to let us know who You think is looking the strongest.
1. Carson Garrett
The thing about Carson at the merge is that he’s been really smart about who he’s made ties with so far, and he’s been lucky enough to have most of them stick around to the merge. Yam Yam and Carolyn were his allies in his time at Tika, so they’ll be excited to add him back to their diminishing pod. In his time at Ratu,...

The Survivor Season 44 premiere showed a lot of promise for the fourth installment of the reality competition series’ “new era,” but since then, fans have pointed out flaws in the show’s format. There are too many advantages and idols (and fake idols) at play in the game, and only women have been voted out. Both the Ratu and Tika tribes are at numbers disadvantages after losing the first two immunity challenges on “Survivor 44.” Naturally, the votes the two tribes cast at their Tribal Councils have put cards on the table for who each player is working with. Left out of the votes, Kane Fritzler and Sarah Wade are lone wolves on their tribes hoping to avoid a quick trip back to the ballot box. In this week’s third episode, the threat of another challenge looms over both camps in the shadow of some key bonding time. Above and below, watch the “Survivor 44” episode 3 sneak peek videos for “Sneaky Little Snake.”
In Sneak Peek 1, Kane leads the Ratu tribe through the Canadian national anthem before role-playing around camp with the tribal immunity sword. He says he’s “all things fantasy,” and likenes his tribe to five heroic knights up against all the evil that can be thrown at them.

Survivor has changed immensely in the 23 years it has been on CBS. Producers have introduced hidden immunity idols, removed the fan favorite auction, resorted to revealing the Sole Survivor during the Final Tribal Council, and so much more. But even with these format modifications, one aspect of Survivor has yet to change in recent seasons.

The Immunity Challenge for Survivor 44 Episode 2 on CBS featured the three tribes — Ratu, Soka, and Tika — racing through an obstacle course to get to a snake maze. The first two tribes to finish the maze would win reward and immunity, and the losing tribe would face Tribal Council.
All three tribes remained neck and neck throughout the challenge, but Ratu quickly secured the win when they got to the snake maze.
