Who will win “Survivor 44”? The current season will wrap up on Wednesday, May 24 on CBS with a three-hour episode that crowns the winner from among the Final 5 castaways. All season long, Gold Derby readers made their “Survivor” winner predictions for which contestant they thought would go the distance and claim the $1 million grand prize. Below, see a snapshot in time of our racetrack odds for the Season 44 finale.
As of this writing, the last remaining players are Yamil “Yam Yam” Arocho, Carolyn Wiger, Carson Garrett, Heidi Lagares-Greenblatt and Lauren Harpe. While Carolyn topped our winner’s chart for much of the preceding weeks, Yam Yam has taken the lead in the final stretch, per our users. Will Yam Yam turn on his former Tika allies, Carolyn and Carson, in order to impress the jury? He floated the idea last week, but ultimately decided not to. Stay tuned!

Of the players eliminated so far on “Survivor 44,” Gold Derby asked viewers in our recent poll to name who should return for a future All-Stars season. The poll results are in and there is one name that tops the list of over two-thirds of voters: Frannie Marin! The only other castaway to earn more than 10% of the vote is Matthew Grinstead-Mayle, the adventurous superfan that left the game by choice due to a shoulder injury. (Note that we did not include Bruce Perreault as an option because Jeff Probst has already invited him back.)
Here are the complete poll results for who fans want back as an All-Star:
67% — Frannie Marin
14% — Matthew Grinstead-Mayle
7% — Matt Blankinship
5% — Brandon Cottom
2% — Kane Fritzler
1% — Helen Li, Claire Rafson, Maddy Pomilla, Sarah Wade, Josh Wilder

CBS has released a “Survivor 44” deleted scene that takes place on Day 18 at the Va Va camp, and it’s a doozy. After Frannie Marin wins reward and takes Lauren Harpe, Heidi Lagares-Greenblatt and Carolyn Wiger with her to the Survivor Sanctuary, the other four players back at camp talk advantages. When Carson Garrett admits he’s “not good at” finding things, Danny Massa brags, “You guys have seen me. I’ve been looking.”
We then get quick-cuts of Danny searching for advantages in the jungle as he tearfully narrates, “The lack of food? It sucks. Really not fair. I feel like I could have been over there instead of … looking for this idol, dawg!” The 32-year-old New York firefighter bursts out laughing as he holds up the red triangular amulet, confirming his tears weren’t real.

Following this week’s elimination of Frannie Marin from “Survivor 44,” only seven castaways remain in the game to be named Sole Survivor. That means 11 other players have already fallen by the wayside, either voted out of the game or evacuated for medical reasons. Setting aside Bruce Perreault, who Jeff Probst has already invited to play again, we want to know which of the other 10 eliminated players You think is deserving of a second chance in an All-Stars season? Vote in our “Survivor 44” poll below.
Very few players voted out in the first few days of the game have ever been invited back, but Maddy Pomilla, Helen Li and Claire Rafson are as good of picks as any would be. Each jumped into the game head first with bold strategic moves that ultimately put a target on their backs. Hey, "Survivor" fans. Tonight, April 26, 2023, another new episode of Survivor season 44 did indeed hit the air, and another unlucky contestant got voted off at the end. Tonight's new episode kicked off with Danny talking to the private cams about the last tribal council meeting, which sent Brandon Cottom packing. Danny said, "Everything went exactly as planned. It was a good feeling. The game plan was to weaken Ratu to even things out. It worked perfectly." Lauren ,who was working with Brandon, told the private cams, "I didn't see that vote coming. Our numbers are dwindling. We should've split the votes, but we didn't." Yam Yam told the private cams, "Everything's looking good for me now." He joked that anyone who writes his name down at tribal council is in danger.

After Danny Massa used his hidden immunity idol last week to save Frannie Marin, the castaways now suspect there’s “another idol in circulation,” which is typically what happens on the CBS reality TV show. In the “Survivor 44” sneak peek video for Episode 9 (watch above), Kane Fritzler, Jaime Lynn Ruiz and Danny are seen searching the jungle for an idol shortly after Brandon Cottom was voted out of the game.
The clip begins on Day 16 at the Va Va camp. “The number one mantra in this game is don’t get cocky,” Kane tells Jaime. “I felt comfortable last night, and I was like, ‘It’s okay to feel comfortable. I’m in the majority alliance’ … I got duped.” To recap, the former Ratu members were completely blindsided by Danny playing his idol, which negated the six votes cast for Frannie, resulting in Brandon’s elimination.

Before the three tribes of “Survivor 44” merged to one in their move to Ratu beach, Brandon Cottom hid a fake idol in order to throw the new inhabitants off their game. Above, watch the “Survivor 44” deleted scene from episode 8, “Don’t Get Cocky Kid,” where Brandon’s ally Kane Fritzler finds the idol instead.
In the clip, Kane and fellow former Ratu member Lauren Harpe wake up early to collect firewood, which in the game of “Survivor” almost always doubles as an idol hunt. The two express their frustration at how unexpectedly hard it is to locate hidden advantages when they anticipated that it’d be much easier. They return to camp empty-handed, but when Kane goes out for another search later, he comes across the rolled up parchment tucked between two rocks.

On Wednesday’s eighth episode of “Survivor 44,” Brandon Cottom was blindsided by the successful use of the Soka birdcage idol. Going into the vote, Brandon felt like the Ratu four were running the game and that he could assemble a unanimous vote against Frannie Marin, but his buddy Danny Massa had other plans. Read on for Brandon’s “Survivor 44” exit interview from the end of the episode.
After Brandon, Jaime Lynn Ruiz and Lauren Harpe secured the elimination of Matt Blankinship, the non-Ratu players realized there was a clear divide in the game between Ratu and Soka fighting for power. That left Yamil “Yam Yam” Arocho, Carolyn Wiger and Carson Garrett in the middle as “the three stooges” of Tika who could play the middle between the two sides. Having saved Yam Yam in the previous vote, Brandon believed that he’d work with Ratu against Soka and that Carolyn would follow suit.

As the game heads in to what should be the first straight-forward merge vote of “Survivor 44,” where we hope all Top 10 players left have a say in who goes home next, the game seems to have split unevenly down original tribal lines. Brandon Cottom, Jaime Lynn Ruiz and Lauren Harpe took the upper hand in episode 7 to cut down the Soka numbers by one, but have curiously left Kane Fritzler on the outside looking in. Soka members Danny Massa, Heidi Lagares-Greenblat and Frannie Marin are now in defense mode, while Tika contestants Carson Garrett, Carolyn Wiger and Yamil “Yam Yam” Arocho are still trying to find out how they fit in to the plans.

Properly using an advantage is the ultimate “Survivor” dilemma. How many castaways have left the game with idols or advantages in their pockets, unused because they kept waiting for the “right time” that eventually passed them by? In the case of Heidi Lagares-Greenblatt, her “Control a Vote” advantage (which allowed her to dictate how another person would vote at tribal council) had an expiration date so there was no question of when to use it. But viewers saw her agonizing over who to use it on. And ultimately, they think she wasted it by targeting the wrong person.
In Gold Derby’s recent poll, only 9% of respondents thought Heidi did the right thing by instructing Lauren Harpe to vote for Yamil “Yam Yam” Arocho. That means 91% of “Survivor” fans had mixed feelings on how Heidi’s advantage played out. Of course, we’re all playing armchair quarterback as we have...

In CBS’s latest “Survivor 44” deleted scene, viewers learn more about Matt Blankinship‘s unsuccessful mad scramble to save himself from elimination in Episode 7. Prior to tribal council, Matt goes to Jaime Lynn Ruiz and basically throws Danny Massa under the bus for duping him into believing he’d found a hidden immunity idol, when really it was a fake one planted by Danny, who had the real one. Jaime’s response? She calls Matt a “liar liar, pants on fire.” Watch the video above.
The scene begins at the old Soka camp on Day 14, with Matt showing Jaime, Yamil “Yam Yam” Arocho, Lauren Harpe and Brandon Cottom his former home. Remember, this small group lost the immunity challenge, so only they would be eligible to be voted out at the impending tribal council.

Shortly after “Survivor 44” shook up the merged tribe and sent home Matt Blankinship in a tearful tribal council, CBS released a deleted scene from Episode 7 showcasing an overwhelmed Kane Fritzler. On Day 14, just prior to the immunity challenge, the 25-year-old law graduate (and “Dungeons & Dragons” enthusiast) from Canada says he now has some “skin in the game” because he received a vote at the prior tribal council.
To recap, Kane’s name was written down by Carolyn Wiger in a 1-3-7 vote over Yamil “Yam Yam” Arocho and Josh Wilder (who went home). “It was a little spicy,” Kane told the camera about seeing Jeff Probst holding a parchment with his name. “It tells me that I’m playing, I’m not hidden anymore.”

The Survivor challenges usually have a physical component, then a puzzle at the end. The puzzle can be an equalizer between people who aren’t as fast or strong. But castaways have also gone home because they let their team down at the last moment. So it’s a good idea to prepare. Here is where you can find the show’s puzzles online to improve your skills and make Jeff Probst proud to have you on the cast.

We often see a life-size tree puzzle in one of the challenges. Castaways must find the leaf pieces that fit on the branches.
“Survive with a Capital S” in season 44 showed the cast competing in a challenge to make it to the merge. They had to push a rolling ball over obstacles.

First things first, we love Survivor. It has been one of the most exciting and compelling reality competition series on television since its first season in Borneo in 2000. However, because we admire Survivor so much, we acknowledge that the show needs some format changes. And Carson Garrett mastering the tree puzzle in Survivor 44 Episode 6 confirms our demand for producers to retire (some) old challenges.

On Wednesday’s sixth episode of “Survivor 44,” Josh Wilder thought that the pre-merge joining of the tribes would be a fresh opportunity for him to reset what he saw as a strong position in the game. Originally on Soka and with two (albeit strained) connections at Tika, Josh would have enough relationships in the game to secure a safe path forward. His own spreading of disinformation about the real and/or fake idols in his possession ultimately sealed his fate and the new tribe united to vote him out. Read on for his “Survivor 44” exit interview from the end of the episode.
As soon as he hit the sands of the Ratu beach where the new pre-merge tribe would be playing from, Josh began his campaign to solidify his position in the game. As he tried at Tika, Josh thought the threat of him having an idol would scare votes away from him,...

Some Survivor fans like reading into the edit of the episodes to see what producers are trying to hide or tell fans. Season 44 heavily shows Carolyn Wiger’s point of view and breaks the format multiple times. Here is a theory on why they went a different route.

Season 44 had a unique start, with a blooper of Carolyn doing a confessional. It certainly threw off the audience, and at the time, it was unclear what the editors were trying to say about the season. But after six episodes, the producers’ vision seems more apparent.

Heading into the sixth episode of “Survivor 44,” the Tika tribe had just been told by host Jeff Probst that they wouldn’t have to attend tribal council because Matthew Grinstead-Mayle had left the show due to his bum shoulder. That left 12 people still in the game, and they were all about to compete to “earn their way” into the all-important merge. So how did it all play out on Wednesday night?

It’s the episode of Survivor 44 we’ve all been dreading — the “mergatory.” That’s right; Survivor producers are sticking with the “new era” “earn the merge” concept in season 44, meaning that Tika, Soka, and Ratu are now living on one beach, but they aren’t technically merged. We’ll get further into this concept in our recap, but let’s just hope that the Survivor 44 cast somehow makes this awful twist somewhat bearable in episode 6.

CBS has released yet another deleted scene from “Survivor 44” Episode 5, this time focusing on Josh Wilder. The 34-year-old surgeon from Atlanta started out the game on the Soka tribe, where he was sitting between two dominant pairs. Then he switched over to Tika, where he became a target between the sometimes-friendly, sometimes-warring Yamil “Yam Yam” Arocho and Carolyn Wiger.
On Day 11, Josh gives some insights into his thinking process after the tribe receives tree-mail about the impending immunity challenge (watch above). Yam Yam reads the parchment aloud: “Nothing comes between friends as annoying as a piece of rope. If you are the one dragged to the end, a gentle touch is your only hope.”

It’s “merge” time for the “Survivor” contestants as the “Next Time On” promo confirmed that all the tribes will coalesce on the same beach. Last week’s fifth episode saw the leave of Matthew Grinstead-Mayle from Ratu after sustaining an injury to his shoulder in the premiere when he fell off of a large rock. This is the second player this season to exit the game due to an injury, and though he technically was not involuntarily medically evacuated like Bruce Perrault was in the premiere, the pain was too excruciating for him to continue forward. Due to Matthew’s departure, the Tika tribe did not have to attend Tribal Council after losing the immunity challenge, but how will the rest of the cast look together when they unite on one beach? Read on as we’re breaking down the game.

As the “merge” approaches on “Survivor 44,” it’s time to assess the chances of each of the remaining 12 castaways to see who has the best chance of winning the $1 million prize. Then, be sure to sound off in the comments to let us know who You think is looking the strongest.
1. Carson Garrett
The thing about Carson at the merge is that he’s been really smart about who he’s made ties with so far, and he’s been lucky enough to have most of them stick around to the merge. Yam Yam and Carolyn were his allies in his time at Tika, so they’ll be excited to add him back to their diminishing pod. In his time at Ratu,...

During the fifth episode of “Survivor 44,” Danny Massa, Brandon Cottom and Carolyn Wiger were chosen to go on this week’s journey. Only this time, the journey was strictly a meal at the Survivor Sanctuary and there were no risks, rewards or advantages to speak of. The Survivor Season 44 premiere showed a lot of promise for the fourth installment of the reality competition series’ “new era,” but since then, fans have pointed out flaws in the show’s format. Survivor is a treacherous game in itself, but the season 44 castaways took the show’s dangers to the next level during the premiere. After watching another woman leave Survivor 44 during episode 3, one thing became clear to fans — the “new era” has a gender problem. Survivor 43 began with four women voted out before a man left the game. And season 44 followed suit, with three women eliminated before a man exited during Tribal Council. So why are women more in danger of going pre-merge? And is there a way for CBS to fix this issue in future Survivor seasons?
