The looming writers strike in the U.S. could be an “interesting opportunity” for producers working outside the country in an era of globalized content, CAA’s head of Global TV Ted Miller told a panel at the Mia Market in Rome on Thursday.
“I think there’s likely going to be a writers strike,” he said. “I’m not a prognosticator, but they seem to be leaning that way because the writers feel they have leverage if they strike on some of the very important issues that are meaningful to them,” he said.
The Writers Guild Of America (WGA) is currently limbering up for negotiations with the U.S. studios, networks and streamers over the updating of their current contract which expires on May 1, 2023.
Having been on the backfoot during the last negotiations in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the guild is determined to address key issues like minimum pay rates,...

If you're on Facebook, chances are that you may have heard of the notorious "Storm Area 51" event, to which millions of users have now RSVP'd. The out-of-this-world ordeal started off as a joke after college student Matty Roberts watched Joe Rogan's podcast episode featuring Area 51 whistle-blower Bob Lazar, the subject of a recent documentary on Netflix titled Bob Lazar: Area 51 & Flying Saucers. The meme caught the Air Force's attention and brought Lazar and the film about his UFO experience back into the public radar. If you're wondering how this new documentary on Netflix ties into the event, read on to catch up with the recent alien invasion on your feed.
Here's a little bit of about Lazar's backstory. Most of us know Area 51, located in the Nevada Test and Training Range, to be a highly classified government facility shrouded in secret. Suspicions about this region originate from Lazar,...

The man behind Facebook’s “Storm Area 51” page has come forward, calling it “kind of a joke,” but expressing fears that government agents would come knocking on his door.
Matty Roberts spoke to Nevada’s Klas-tv via video call on Wednesday and expressed shock at how his humor has turned into a viral sensation.
“I posted it on like June 27th and it was kind of a joke,” Roberts said. “And then it waited for like three days and like 40 people, and then it just completely took off, out of nowhere. It’s pretty wild.”
More than 1.5 million people have signed up on Facebook to storm the top secret military facility on Sept. 20th, with another 1.1. million expressing interest. The Air Force has warned the foolish that they will take all measures to defend the base if there is an attempt to breach its security. Conspiracy theorists have long believed...

We want to believe. UFO fanatics and conspiracy theorists are quite familiar with the name Bob Lazar. He essentially put Area 51 on the map when, in 1989, he claimed to have proof that he had reverse-engineered an alien spacecraft at a secret government facility near Groom Lake, a vast swath of desert in Nevada. […]

The man whose claims of working on alien technology near Area 51 made the base famous is the subject of a new documentary.
In 1989, an anonymous witness talked to Klas Las Vegas about his alleged work engineering alien spacecraft at a secret underground location just south of Area 51. The story about the witness’ claims went global and made Area 51 famous, even though at the time the existence of Area 51 was being denied by the U.S Government. The anonymous witness was later identified as Bob Lazar. Now for the first time since 1989, Lazar will speak at length about his alleged alien insight in a documentary titled Bob Lazar: Area 51 and Flying Saucers. The documentary releases on December 3, 2019, and actor Mickey Rourke narrates the film.
When asked if he believed in UFOs, Rourke told Den of Geek, “I don’t know. I would like to.”
He continued: “When I was...

The Orchard is doubling down on the extraterrestrial. The indie distributor has signed a two-picture deal with Jklc Films to release its new UFO documentary films Hunt for the Skinwalker and Bob Lazar.
Both features come from filmmaker Jeremy Kenyon Lockyer Corbell (Patient Seventeen) and are set for a late 2018 release.
Hunt for the Skinwalker is based on the best-selling book by George Knapp and Dr. Colm Kelleher about the most intensive scientific study of a paranormal hotspot in human history. In 1996, a real estate mogul and self-made billionaire (Bigelow Aerospace's Robert Bigelow) purchased 480 acres of land in northern Utah for...

The truth is out there. But who's telling it? Late last week, the CIA acknowledged the existence of Area 51 via a previously unreleased 407-page document. The Nevada base has long been rumored to house government secrets about aliens. Here's what the Central Intelligence Agency says actually happened at Area 51: World War II training and, later, testing of U-2 spy planes, Lockheed 1-12 Oxcart planes, D-21 Tagboard planes and F-117 stealth fighter planes. So many planes and not a single flying saucer in sight. Reactions by UFO enthusiasts have varied. The Sane-ish(?): Bob Lazar, who first brought Area 51 into the public consciousness in 1989 when he claimed to have been a...

The main objective of the films of Damon Packard seems to be to induce a nervous breakdown in the viewer. The chaotic rush of plot, the flashing special effects, the densely layered sound design, the complete abandonment of logical cohesion add up to provide a literal experience of the old hyperbolic catchphrase “senses-shattering”!
Yet for all of Packard’s blustery whirlwind of pop culture references that he layers upon layers in each outing, it’s clear that the heart of his films comes from a deeply personal place, whether it’s the spiritual and cultural anxieties felt by the main character — played by himself — in Reflections of Evil or the woes experienced by a sci-fi filmmaker in SpaceDisco One.
Foxfur, Packard’s latest offering, revolves around a heretofore unconfessed obsession of his: UFO conspiracies. Well, who’s to say if it’s an “interest” or an “obsession,” but either way...

Besides worrying about aliens popping out of the dark (and trying to pop your head off), one of the most memorable features of the original Xcom was the ability to research those sinister Greys and develop new weapons and tech. Well, you'll be able to cut right into the invaders and discover all of their secrets on the operating room table in October's Xcom: Enemy UnKnown when the Firaxis remake hits the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
I recently spoke with Firaxis Designer and Programmer Jacob Solomon about bringing alien dissection back and what it means for the new game's single player campaign. Plus, we have new screenshots of some of the alien invaders reimagined for the new game.
"It's one of those things that makes Xcom different," Solomon explains to me when I ask why gamers will be interested in going "Alien Autopsy" on Xcom's invaders. For Solomon, it's an...
