As Laidback Luke presses onward towards the release of his upcoming album, Focus, he’s allowed another track preview from the effort to reach his fans’ ears early. Less than a month after teasing the lackluster “Let It Go” featuring Trevor Guthrie, the DJ/producer has given his fans something of more substance with his Sam Ashworth collaboration, “Hooked Again.”
While this track falls somewhat into a category I’ve taken to calling “department store house” of late, it’s certainly a welcome departure from the last Focus track Laidback Luke released. Meandering instrumentals set a more sophisticated tone in this arrangement, and spirited vocals contributed by Ashworth make it play back in your head long after you’ve stopped listening to it.
As far as Focus is concerned, the album is slated for release on November 6th. In the meantime, listen to Laidback Luke‘s “Hooked Again” and let...

Before you get on my case, look, I have nothing but respect for Laidback Luke as a DJ. As many industry insiders know, he’s one of the few performers out there with actual, honest-to-god turntable tricks at his disposal – but given his credentials as a selector, his choice of music often fails to inspire in the same way that his capabilities as a performer do.
“Let It Go” featuring Trevor Guthrie is a track that could have been released by any number of contemporary mainstagers. An all-too-predictable buildup-drop scheme is accompanied by blasé vocals, and the driving synth melody sounds as interchangeable as any other track that made its rounds through the festival circuit this summer.
Nonetheless, Laidback Luke is still one of the Edm world’s most celebrated performers – and even though his productions have suffered in recent years, his skill behind the decks makes him deserving of such accolades.

Laidback Luke has announced that he’ll be releasing a new album on November 6th via his Mixmash Records label.
Titled Focus, the disc will be his first full album since 2002’s Electronic Satisfaction and is set to include 16 tracks, with artists like Benny Benassi, Yellow Claw, Trevor Guthrie and more all slated to feature.
“Focus will contain a combination of various styles, because electronic music is still all the same family to me. Commercial or underground, I love it all!” said the producer in a statement to Billboard.
“What I love about the album is that I can say it’s real,” he added. “It’s not me selling out and it’s not me staying in old habits. It’s me enjoying my producer time and making tracks that I would both love to listen to and dance to.”

Hardwell is closing out the year with a special mix that encompasses some of 2014’s hottest tracks. Taking to his podcast, Hardwell On Air, the Dutch DJ has put together a two hour episode that will be released in two parts, the first of which was uploaded today.
Featuring music from the producer himself, along with a few Revealed Recordings label mates and some of Edm’s hottest artists, like Zedd, Galantis, Dada Life, Oliver Heldens and many more, the mix is full of big room tracks and gives us a nice sample of some of the best that the genre had to offer in 2014.
Even if you don’t dig the song selection here, it’s very well mixed and shines a light on some great remixes that probably flew under the radar this year. It’s a solid hour of music and I’d definitely suggest giving it...
