Blumhouse has closed on a significant book deal for Clémence Michallon’s debut thriller The Quiet Tenant, “an expertly paced psychological thriller…[with] a white-knuckle climax” (New York Times). The Quiet Tenant has taken the publishing world by storm with rights sold in thirty countries. Blumhouse Television will develop as a premium limited series or streaming movie.
One of the most-anticipated novels of the year, The Quiet Tenant has just been published by Knopf in the U.S. and Abacus in the U.K. Hailed as “spell-binding” (Megan Abbott), “absolutely brilliant” (Brad Thor), “creepy, claustrophobic, and compelling” (Vogue), and a “tour de force of suspense and character” (The Big Thrill), the novel introduces author Clémence Michallon as an important new voice in the suspense genre.
“I read Clémence’s novel in one sitting and was riveted. The story has all the elements of a great screen adaptation,” said Jason Blum, founder and CEO of Blumhouse.

When Tyre Nichols’ mother remembered her son, she remembered a man who “loved sunsets” and had a passion for photography and skateboarding. She spoke during a press conference on Friday ahead of the video footage released later that afternoon showing Memphis Police fatally beating Nichols following a traffic stop on Jan. 7.
Nichols, who was 29-year-old, died on Jan. 10 from his injuries.
“My son was a beautiful soul. He was a good boy,” said his mother RowVaughn Wells. “No one’s perfect but he was damn near.”

Dreamed up and co-founded by former Georgetown undergraduate classmates Ryan Wilson and Tk Petersen, The Gathering Spot is a private membership network designed as a place for connectivity and community building.
“It’s like a think tank and a country club, minus the elitism,” Wilson, CEO of the company, tells THR.

“We’re used to being tolerated in spaces and not celebrated within them. So what is it like to build an experience where we’re celebrated at every touch point?” says Wilson of the motivation behind The Gathering Spot, which just welcomed its newest location earlier this year in L.A.’s historically Black West Adams neighborhood.
“We’ve been very specific from the beginning: This is about Black folks, and engaging our culture directly,” says Wilson. “Everybody is welcome. But everything that we build...

On the Road movie reedited for Toronto screening Based on Jack Kerouac's '50s novel, Walter Salles' Otr adaptation starring Garrett Hedlund, Sam Riley, and Kristen Stewart (above photo) will be screened at the upcoming Toronto Film Festival. We all knew that. What we didn't know is that Tiff 2012 will unveil a new cut of the film (via indieWIRE), which premiered last spring at the Cannes Film Festival to mixed reviews. The 2hr20m drama has been downsized to approximately 125 minutes. That's an interesting development, as Otr has already been screened in several countries, with varying degrees of box-office success. [Check out the On the Road trailer. Check out Kristen Stewart On the Road poster; Garrett Hedlund On the Road poster.] Otr movie reedit hardly unique On the other hand, different cuts shown in different countries is hardly something new. Whether as a result of poor critical/box-office reception, (perceived) local sensibilities, and/or censorship, the movie you watch in, say, Canada isn't necessarily the exact same movie watched by someone in Singapore,...
