Lee “Scratch” Perry’s final album, King Perry, will be released posthumously on February 2nd, 2024 via False Idols. As a preview, the lead single “100lbs of Summer” featuring Greentea Peng arrived today, along with a remix of the track by Tricky.
King Perry was written, produced, and recorded by an 85-year-old Perry in the months before his death in 2021, and was the final product of the reggae icon’s decade-long collaboration with UK-based producer, Daniel Boyle. Aiming to expand the framework of dub to incorporate new sounds and experimentations, the two musicians began the project by sending files back and forth from opposite sides of the Atlantic. Over time, it blossomed into a full-length celebration of Perry’s style, featuring collaborations from Greentea Peng, Happy Mondays’ Shaun Ryder, Fifi Rong, and more.

It takes 97 minutes to listen to Christine and the Queens’ moving, three-act pop opera, Paranoïa, Angels, True Love, but you need months to understand it fully.
On the album, the French artist (let’s call him Chris for simplicity) summons celestial bodies, pays tribute to his late mother, flirts with 070 Shake, navigates acid-rock and dubby detours, samples Marvin Gaye and Pachelbel’s canon, and divines some of the catchiest melodies of his career. Mark Stewart, co-founder and singer of the UK post-punk act The Pop Group, has died at the age of 62.
As a teeanger, Stewart formed The Pop Group alongside guitarist John Waddington, bassist Simon Underwood, guitarist/saxophonist Gareth Sager, and drummer Bruce Smith. Rising from the ashes of punk rock’s first wave, The Pop Group pushed the genre into a far more diverse direction by embracing an explosive fusion of punk, dub, free jazz, and funk. They released two albums — 1979’s Y and 1980’s For How Much Longer Do We Tolerate Mass Murder? — before splitting in 1981.
Three decades later, Stewart, Sager, and Smith gave The Pop Group new life. After reforming for a UK tour in 2015, the trio hit the studio with producer Paul Epworth for their first album in 35 years, Citizen Zombie. They then embarked on a more extensive reunion tour that spanned much of 2016 and 2017.

Twenty years ago, Massive Attack’s golden streak went up in smoke. Up to that point, the Bristol trip-hop innovators had surfed a never-ending tide of acclaim. With their first three albums, they were heralded as mould-breakers and miracle workers.
Then, on 10 February 2003, came their fourth. 100th Window was feverish and uneasy, a sealed puzzle box that made few concessions to casual listeners. Critics balked, fans scratched their heads. In a finger-snap, Massive Attack had surrendered their status as the most bullet-proof band in Britain.
But as the LP’s 20th anniversary approaches, there is surely a case to be made for 100th Window as a misunderstood masterpiece. True, it’s harder work than any of the Nineties trilogy of Blue Lines (1991), Protection (1994) and Mezzanine (1998). Choruses are at a premium; the smooth grooves that were once a Massive Attack signature are replaced by barb-wire guitars and beats that rumble like...

Terry Hall, the longtime voice of legendary ska group The Specials has died after what the band termed a brief illness. He was 63.
Hall and the Specials reached their widest appeal with the haunting, socially conscious “Ghost Town,” which spent three weeks at No. 1 on the U.K. singles charts in 1981. The song was a commentary on economic strife in Margaret Thatcher’s England and the social unrest of the era, including riots that year in Britain. It was named “Single of the Year” by all three of the major UK music magazines.
The Specials were formed in the late ’70s by songwriter/keyboardist Dammers, vocalist Tim Strickland, guitarist/vocalist Lynval Golding, drummer Silverton Hutchinson and bassist Horace Panter (a.k.a. Sir Horace Gentleman). Strickland was replaced by Hall shortly after the band’s formation. They were at the vanguard of the the 2 Tone ska revival of the late 1970s in Britain,...

He'll be starring in We Wish You a Married Christmas with Marisol Nichols, and we caught up with him to chat about it.

We Wish You a Married Christmas follows a couple on the brink of divorce. It's not very jolly from an outside perspective, but their marriage counselor has a surprise for them.
When Becca and Robby arrive at a cozy inn in Vermont to spend the holidays, Christmas magic intervenes, showing the couple they might not be as far gone as they thought.

Monday’s episode of The Good Doctor marked a major milestone for Shaun and Lea — one that promises to radically alter the trajectory of their relationship.
At the start of the hour, Lea’s car was seized by a sleazy tow truck operator named Tricky, who refused to cut her any slack for having her vintage automobile parked in someone else’s spot. St. Bonaventure’s heroic head of It insisted the spot belonged to her, but Shaun refused to lie on his girlfriend’s behalf.

The Avalanches have teamed with Leon Bridges for their new track “Interstellar Love,” the latest single from the Australian duo’s upcoming album We Will Always Love You.
The track features a sample of Alan Parsons Project’s “Eye in the Sky” and is inspired — like the album itself — by the story of astronomer Carl Sagan and his wife Ann Druyan capturing their romance on tape and sending it into space as part of the Voyager’s Golden Record.
“Leon is an incredible singer, with just the most beautiful voice.

BBC America already has one wacky British time traveler on its schedule, but with all of time and space at your disposal, there’s surely room for one more. Enter “Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency,” a completely bonkers series based on the novels by Douglas Adams.
Created by Max Landis, the series is a sci-fi mystery with comedic sensibility and a helluva lot of storylines. Like the 2012 TV adaptation before it, “Dirk Gently” dispenses with the book’s plot — which some have proclaimed unfilmable — in favor of an original mystery. Landis’ version also dispenses with all of the book’s characters save for the titular detective himself.

For every heartbreaking episode of Supernatural, there’s a hilarious, meta adventure or an offbeat case (about fairies, imaginary friends, etc.) to counter the angst. So why shouldn’t the show’s world also have balance on an epic scale?

It’s no secret that Marvel Studios has fast-tracked Thor: The Dark World, but until now, details about the production were limited to mostly what was revealed at Comic-Con and a few choice pieces of information. Thanks to a legal obligation to inform the residents of an area about certain types of filming, additional information has “leaked” to the eager ears of fans.
Filming of Thor: The Dark World was reportedly going to start late this summer in England, and it now looks like details about a more exact location have been revealed. As you may already know, large-scale productions tend to use a code name to divert attention and avoid as much fan-fare during filming as possible. Unless there is another significant feature shooting in England at the same time, then the code name for this film is “Thursday Mourning.”

Tna Bound For Glory 2011
October 16th, Live from Philadelphia
Obligatory shot of the Liberty Bell and of course Rocky before we move into the Bound For Glory hype video. Then we are listening to Stain’d (for the first time since 2001 if you’re anything like me) as we go Live into the arena. You’d think for their biggest show of the year they’d have some pyro.
X Division Title
Brian Kendrick vs. Austin Aries
Lockup, the crowd strongly behind Austin Aries for some reason. We are in Philly tonight, the crowd could be interesting. Kendrick hip toss and a side head lock take over or three. Austin gets out of each one with an easy head scissors. Kendrick dropkicks him outside, where Aries decides he needs a time out. Of course Kendrick cant resist a vaulting cross body block. I can understand them cheering who they want.

There’s a great interview with Grant Morrison on the website of Rolling Stone magazine. The reason I bring it up is that I’ve been thinking about last week’s column. The more I thought about Action Comics #1, written by Morrison, the more I really liked it.
But I’m an adult.
I’ve been a fan of Grant’s since his debut on this side of the pond as the writer of Animal Man back in the 80s. It was a book that I adored. But Animal Man was under the Vertigo imprint, whose aim was to bring a sophisticated, i.e. adult, audience and slant into the comics industry – at which it incredibly succeeded, of course. In fact, if I remember right, the “hook” for the entire line of Vertigo books was sophisticated horror.
But I’m an adult.
And the Vertigo books aren’t for kids.

Tonight, Discovery seems to be airing a non-Shark Week themed show since "One Man Army" is airing at its usual time. I've checked the episode description and nowhere does it mention Anything about sharks so that's frustrating and confusing. They've managed to make episodes of "Mythbusters" and "Dirty Jobs" that were Shark Week themed so I don't know why they can't just do that for all shows that air during Shark Week. And since the same company owns TLC and Discovery channel maybe they could send a few sharks over to "Toddlers and Tiaras" to get these parents to have a little perspective. "What's that? Your little girl doesn't like it when you bleach her hair because it burns? That's a shame. We've got someone to help you deal with those feelings. Actually, several someones. Or somethings. Christina Aguilera has unleashed an official picture to be featured on the front page of her upcoming studio album "Bionic". While the previous photo for "Not Myself Tonight" artwork has the singer with devil's horns and tail, this new one sees a headshot of her as a human-machine hybrid.
Christina's fourth effort, "Bionic" is slated to be released in the U.S. on June 8. The lead single "Not Myself Tonight" is produced by Polow da Don and described as a "fiercely energetic anthem". The track will be debuted on March 30 at 6 P.M. Edt, receives radio airplay on April 5 and will be available on iTunes on April 13.
Another confirmed song in the forthcoming release is a ballad song called "Lift Me Up" which is written by Linda Perry. The song has been showcased live by Christina when she performed at "Hope for Haiti" telethon earlier this year.

Let's face it 2009 was not such a great year for movies – at least mainstream releases anyway. There were so many films that promised to tease, tantalize or entertain us with their fancy looking trailers and the end results where less than stellar. Genre films appear to be the biggest draws at the box office with stories that focus on battles between good and evil. Represented by one or several antagonists or villains, evil within a story can often be more fascinating than good. A good villain has the power to outshine the hero with his intelligence, quick wit or twisted philosophy. Unfortunately there also seems to be an equal number of terrible villains in films. They say a film is only as good as its villain and a poorly developed villain can also ruin a picture. Sometimes it's due to bad writing, other times it is the fault of the actor.

Much has been said, as this decade has drawn to a close, about the depths of stupidity and inanity that have been the driving force of today’s popular media. It’s true—the aughts have seen reality television become the medium of choice for mindless entertainment, and a platform where the only necessity for becoming a star is having no shame. However, secretly, I believe that we are actually living in one of the great eras of television. With the growing popularity of serial shows on cable networks that used to be film channels (HBO, AMC, etc) the bar has been raised for the level of writing, acting, and production values we demand as an audience. Intricate serials like Lost proved that a show didn’t have to be a procedural to be popular.

Trip-hop star Tricky has said that hip-hop is partially responsible for Britain's gun culture. The 40-year-old musician, real name Adrian Thaws, said that rap music couldn't be ignored as an influence on violent youths. "We're getting more like America every day," he told Uncut. "I love hip-hop. But it has to take some responsibility for the gun culture we've got over here. "We're getting super-violent. You can walk around the Bronx for days on end and nobody bothers you.
