Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew expects to finally land one of his major transfer targets in the next week.
After making bids for former Fc Twente striker Luuk De Jong, Lille right-back Mathieu Debuchy, Ajax midfielder Vurnon Anita, Twente defender Douglas and Liverpool striker Andy Carroll – United have seemingly failed to agree a few with any of the respective clubs for any of their major targets yet. They have already lost out on De Jong who joined Borussia Mochengladbach but the Geordie faithful will be hoping they are still in the running for all their other targets above.
Speaking to the Sunday Sun out in Portugal after Newcastle’s 2-1 victory yesterday over Braga that won them a pre-season trophy, Pardew claimed he had been updated on the transfer situation by the club’s managing director Derek Llambias and The Magpies can expect to perhaps see two signings in the next week.

Danny Simpson insists he’s not being greedy by refusing to sign a new deal at Newcastle United.
The 25-year-old right full-back, who has been first choice in his position for the past three seasons, claims that he just wants to be put on level terms with the salaries of the players around him and it’s not his intention to hold the club for ransom.
Newcastle boss Alan Pardew revealed last week that the club had offered Simpson what he considered to be a great deal on his contract that expires next summer but if Simpson contented to be unwilling to renew, they would be forced to sell him this summer instead of losing him on a free transfer in twelve months.
Simpson told today’s edition of The Sunday Sun;
“I’m not a greedy player and I just want to be on par with the other players around me.

In an interview with the Sunday Sun, Newcastle’s Senegalese striker Demba Ba has seemingly put to bed rumours that he is considering leaving the club when the transfer window re-opens in the close season. Ba is enjoying a prolific partnership with compatriot Papiss Cisse at the head of a Newcastle attack which put paid to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday, and is hungry to find a goal to break the drought that has seen him fail to score since February 5th (on Cisse’s debut against Aston Villa).
The striker who was sensational in the first half of the season after a slow start is also confident that his side can dent Man City’s title hopes…

British police have made another six arrests as part of their investigation into newspaper phone hacking. Among those arrested – on suspicion of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice – was former Sun editor and News International CEO Rebekah Brooks and her husband Charlie.
It is the third time Brooks has been arrested. She is also on bail after being arrested on suspicion of conspiring to intercept communications and also under the linked inquiry into police corruption.
After Rebekah Brooks’ previous arrest, the British media reported on a curious incident involving Charlie Brooks and a laptop left in a bin in a car park near the couple’s home.
The security director of News International is also reported to have been arrested. News International is the British newspaper arm of News Corp which also owns News Limited in Australia. The company publishes The Times, Sunday Times, Sun and Sunday Sun, which...

Andrew Stanton's sci-fi blockbuster takes advantage of the UK's weekend sunshine to edge past The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel – but grey skies and the grey pound could soon bounce back
The winner
Despite suffering bad buzz over budget overruns, an epic production process and a name change, Disney was able to trumpet a UK No 1 opening for its sci-fi blockbuster John Carter, with a gross of just under £2m. That's probably not the number Disney envisioned 26 months ago when shooting started on this pricey Edgar Rice Burroughs adaptation with Pixar's Andrew Stanton at the helm, but it could have been worse. John Carter lost the box-office war to The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel on Friday, and was still behind after Saturday, but was a convincing winner on Sunday. John Carter's opening number compares with £2.47m for Green Lantern last June – viewed as a flop that stopped a potential franchise in its tracks.

Filming on the new series of Doctor Who has started, and already the reports are trickling in about who's lining up to be in Who. And guess what, two Harry Potter alumni have signed on the dotted line, namely Mark Williams (who played Ronald Weasley's dad) and David Bradley, Aka perma-surly, scraggly mullet head caretaker Argus Filch, a chap who finds it physically impossible to crack a smile.
These two acting giants add to the list of Harry Potter actors in the last couple of years – Toby Jones. Helen McRory. Michael Gambon. Don't forget David Tennant. Give it a couple of years and Daniel Radcliffe will be cast as the 12th Doctor. All this Potter casting got me thinking though – could the popularity of the Harry Potter series have helped the renaissance of Doctor Who back in the early Noughties?
But by and large, these films are a modern marvel.

Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley has asked Chief Scout Graham Carr to draw up a short list of players that could be available in the Summer transfer window, according to a Sunday Sun report.
The much blighted Ashley, who was seen laughing and kidding around as his side was being decimated by Tottenham Hotspur 5-0 last night, visited the club’s Benton training grounds on Thursday to hold several meetings with senior staff, one of which was over their 2012 transfer policy.
Ashley has instructed Carr, the man who has spotted the likes of Yohan Cabaye, Cheick Tiote and January’s mega signing Papiss Demba Cisse, to draw up a list of players who will either be out of contract or could be available for the right price in the summer.

British singer Joe McElderry is facing a hefty bill from his new video shoot after water flooded the set and damaged two expensive cameras. The 19 year old, who won Simon Cowell's reality show "The X Factor" last year, filmed the promo for "Someone Wake Me Up" on Friday, october 29.
The lavish video saw McElderry singing in amongst fountains - but there was so much water on set it damaged two high-tech cameras. And the repair bill stands at $15,000, according to Britain's The Sun.
His disastrous video shoot aside, Joe McElderry performed a jam-packed Spooky Spectacular, at Newcastle's Racecourse on October 30, telling the Sunday Sun "I can't think of a better way to spend my Halloween. “I always knew he had something special,” said Jim
“We used to go to a recording studio as a bit of a laugh as a family and make CDs. When he played his first CD in the car, I said to him it was really good.
