The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard became a massive hit for Lifetime from the moment the first episode of the docuseries debuted in January.
“It definitely surpassed even our wildest expectations,” executive producer Nicole Vogel said during a panel discussion of the series as part of Deadline’s Contenders Television: Documentary + Unscripted event. “It’s been our number one most downloaded property ever across all of A&e networks. It’s been the highest social-performing property and buzz for us across A&e networks. So, it really has been a hit.”
Vogel said Lifetime expected big things when they green lighted the series. They had every reason to be confident because Blanchard’s shocking story has captivated the nation since it first came to light almost a decade ago. It’s a tale of Munchausen by Proxy and murder: Gypsy’s mother Dee Dee subjected her daughter to needless medical...

Gypsy Rose Blanchard will continue to chronicle her life, now as a free woman, in a new Lifetime docuseries.
Following “The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard,” the network has greenlit a series that will follow her life from the days right before her release from prison on Dec. 28. Produced by Category 6 Media, part of the A+E Factual Studios group, the new show will debut later this year.
“As a victim of Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy, Gypsy was abused for years by her mother and has lived her entire life in one prison or another… until now,” the official press release says. “The series follows Gypsy as she experiences life as a free woman, including finally living with her husband Ryan Anderson for the first time.”
In 2015, Blanchard was convicted of second-degree murder for the killing of her mother Dee Dee Blanchard, a murder she planned with then-boyfriend Nicholas Godejohn.

Tina Faelz was 14 years old when she was found dead in Pleasanton, California, in April 1984 — her body bleeding from 44 stab wounds in a drainage culvert by the freeway.
Her slaying, as police describe in an exclusive clip from Monday night’s Cold Case Files, was a shock to the community.
“I was in my office when I learned of the homicide. I always dreaded getting a notification call like that,” Bill Eastman, Pleasanton’s retired police chief, recalls in the clip.
“Somebody killed a little girl,” Eastman says. “Nothing like that ever happened to such a young person in Pleasanton’s history.

A&E Network has ordered a half-hour unscripted pilot centering on the elite gang unit of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
The project, tentatively titled "L.A. Gang Unit", follows the highly experienced officers of the department's Gang Task Force who work in South Central Los Angeles. It's being produced by 44 Blue Prods., with company president and co-owner Rasha Drachkovitch serving as executive producer with actor-producer Shane Conrad, son of actor Robert Conrad.
Robert Sharenow, who is executive producing for A&E with Laura Fleury, said the project offers "unprecedented access" to the LASD.
"It really gives you insight into a previously unseen world and a look at just how complicated and challenging this branch of law is," Sharenow said, adding that the project would "fit perfectly with our crime and justice franchise."
Drachkovitch said 44 Blue sparked to the project when Shane Conrad, a reserve deputy sheriff, approached the company with the idea. He noted the difficulty in securing the LASD's consent to allow cameras to follow officers around.
