When the news dropped about Warner Bros. deciding to shelve "Batgirl," "Scoob!: Holiday Haunt," and potentially other projects being produced for HBO Max, it struck a lot of us as a fairly unprecedented move. For "Batgirl" in particular, the size of the budget (a reported 90 million) and its connection to a popular franchise make it an even more startling that this decision has happened. The implications of using productions that artists spend years working on as mere tax loophole fodder sets a fairly depressing precedent for how studios can operate in the future.
However, this is not the first time a nearly completed film has been shelved by a studio. It's not even the first one shelved by Warner Bros. since the turn of the 21st Century. In fact, one shelved production also happened to connect to a very well-known franchise, and next year, we will see a new entry...

It is always great to see more independent animation reaching mainstream screens. It may lack the big budgets of a Disney/Pixar film, but it has all the great intentions, big heart and silly fun for kids and bigger kids alike to enjoy, however generic the sum of some of its parts may be. Disney alumnus Alexs Stadermann swaps animator role for the director’s chair with animated werewolf caper 100% Wolf, complete with lively action, kick-ass hounds and delightfully oddball human beings.
13 year-old Freddy Lupin is no ordinary teen. He comes from a highly respected family of werewolves and is expected to take over the pack after its leader, his late father, is killed. His extended werewolf family is also a pack of ‘do-gooder’ superhero hounds who help fight evil and crime in the local town at night, rather than savage the local population.

Familiar themes of an orphaned boy, an evil uncle, being true to yourself and finding your pack are given fresh Aussie energy in this animated adaptation of Jayne Lyons' coming-of-age story. The werewolves here may look fierce but it's quickly established that, aside from a hatred of dogs and their long-documented problems with silver, they get up to rescue missions after their moonlight "warfing".
Young Freddy can't resist tagging along, taking the sacred ring to help find his dad Flasheart (Jai Courtney) - the pack's High Howler - but on a night that goes badly wrong, he is left without dad or the ring and with slightly unhinged ice-cream man Foxwell Cripp (Rhys Darby) determined to prove the werewolves are real. It's quickly established that his Uncle Hotspur (Rupert Degas) could rival Simba's Uncle Scar in the sibling rivalry department and to top it all...

Ludo Studio.s Daley Pearson seems to have an ongoing fascination with peculiar events and the supernatural.
Pearson created The Strange Calls, the ABC TV comedy starring Toby Truslove as a Gold Coast cop who investigates weird things that happen after dark; a Us remake is being developed by 20th TV for the ABC network.
Now Daley and his Ludo Studio partner Charlie Aspinwall are developing The Strange Chores, a 2D animated series for ABC3 about two 12-year-old boys, both troublemakers, who earn pocket money by doing bizarre chores for their mysterious neighbour. The boys. adventures often involve supernatural elements.
Neither guy had any experience in animation so they reached out to Media World.s Colin South, who produced the toon series Dogstar and The New Adventures of Ocean Girl as well as live action drama The Circuit and the movie Stone Bros.
South is serving as an executive producer...

You have Jessica Biel in a movie and it’s just her voice? What a waste. Oh well, at least there are some funny bits in this first trailer for Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s latest kiddie movie, the CG flick “Planet 51″. The movie sees Johnson playing an astronaut who lands on an alien planet. It’s basically a 1950s comedy, except we’re the aliens and the aliens are us. Get it? Anyways, first trailer for the film below. The inhabitants of Planet 51 live in fear of alien invasion. Their paranoia is realized when an astronaut arrives from Earth. Befriended by a young resident, he has to avoid capture in order to recover his spaceship and try to return home. Starring the voice talents of Dwayne Johnson, Seann William Scott, Jessica Biel, Justin Long, Gary Oldman, John Cleese, and Rupert Degas. Directed by the trio of Jorge Blanco,...
