A restructure of the Paramount Pictures marketing and distribution team will see co-president Mary Daily exit the studio, leaving Marc Weinstock to run the global team solo.
Incoming Paramount Pictures chairman and CEO Brian Robbins announced the changes on Monday, a memo obtained by Variety said.
Additionally, the president of global consumer products for ViacomCBS, Pam Kaufman, has expanded her job duties to include oversight of Paramount’s themed entertainment division. Kevin Suh, current leader of themed entertainment, is stepping down.

In this role, Marc will now lead one unified global marketing and distribution organization. As a result of this decision, co-president of worldwide marketing and distribution Mary Daily will be leaving the studio,” Robbins wrote in the memo.

Paramount marketing boss Marc Weinstock has been promoted to lead a unified global and marketing and distribution team at the studio as President of Worldwide Marketing & Distribution. Also, Pam Kaufman, who is the studio’s President of Global Consumer Products for ViacomCBS, will take on an expanded role with the leadership of Paramount’s Themed Entertainment division.
At the same time, Mary Daily, the studio’s Co-President of Worldwide Marketing & Distribution, is departing. I understand no other seismic turnover at the studio is expected to occur with executive positions. It was announced last week that former Universal Corp Comms executive Jenny Tartikoff was joining Paramount as EVP Global Communications, starting today.

Bringing CineEurope attendees to their feet, Tom Cruise made a surprise appearance at the exhibition convention here in Barcelona today. Cruise, who is the only star to have appeared live and in-person on stage this week, added some wattage to what outside pandemic times is typically a very talent-heavy affair. He turned up for Paramount’s presentation of its upcoming films and introduced a look at both Mission: Impossible 7 and Top Gun: Maverick.
Under a veil of secrecy, Cruise had flown into Barcelona from London where post is being finished on Mission 7, and told the assembled European exhibitors, “I wanted to come personally and thank you all. We’ve had a great relationship over 40 years of my career.” When making films, Cruise said, “I’m always thinking about you all” and “sharing the work in theaters.”

Chris Aronson has been tapped as president of domestic theatrical distribution at Paramount Pictures, a hire that reunites him with studio chief Jim Gianopulos. Both men worked together at 20th Century Fox for decades.
Aronson is known for his wit, blunt talk, and deep ties to the exhibition industry. He was pushed out from his post at Fox last spring after the Walt Disney Company bought the studio. A reunion with Gianopulos, who ran film operations at Fox until 2016, has been rumored for some time.
In his new role, Aronson will oversee theatrical distribution in North America, including in-theater marketing, operation and overall strategy. He will report to Marc Weinstock, Paramount’s president of worldwide marketing and distribution, and Mary Daily, co-president of worldwide marketing and distribution.

‘Mission: Impossible – Fallout’ Jumps Higher With Record $156M Global Bow – International Box Office
Monday Update, writethru with actuals: Paramount Pictures/Skydance’s Mission: Impossible – Fallout lit the fuse this weekend with an action-packed $155.83M worldwide opening to rep the best start ever for the Tom Cruise franchise. Of that, $94.6M — up $2.6M from the Sunday estimate — comes from the international box office where it’s also the top launch for the spy series. Out in just 36 markets for 40% of the offshore footprint, Fallout is currently 23% ahead of Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation‘s 2015 overseas start on a like-for-like basis.
As we noted in our global preview, anything above the $131.5M opening for 2011’s Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol reps a worldwide record start for Ethan Hunt & Co. With so much of the world to come on Fallout, including France, Japan and China (the latter dated August 31), it’s early to put a multiple on it, but $700M+ global...

Much as he dominated Paramount’s CinemaCon presentation in April, Mission: Impossible – Fallout star Tom Cruise loomed large over the studio’s CineEurope show today.
When Mary Daily, Paramount President of International Theatrical Marketing, went to toss off to President of International Theatrical Distribution Mark Viane early on, there appeared to be a missed cue. After a few uncomfortable seconds, Lalo Schifrin’s music started and Cruise appeared on screen, saying he had Viane with him to grill him “on our release dates.”
In the video, Cruise then addressed the audience: “We’ve done everything we possibly can to make this the best Mission yet. We’ve worked harder than ever before to make sure this film represents the ultimate in-movie entertainment and gets people excited to go to your theaters and have the most authentic experience possible.”
Talk about authentic: Cruise again goes big with death-defying stunts including the Halo jump,...

James Cameron said Tuesday that presales for the April 22 home video release of "Avatar" are mirroring what happened in theaters, where audiences paid extra for 3D presentations.
During a media event at a West Hollywood mansion, the "Avatar" director said presales of the higher-quality Blu-ray Disc version have consumers "choosing a premium experience in the home, just as they did in theaters." The pic will only be available in the 2D version for the April and November video releases.
Cameron said he expects Fox Home Entertainment's worldwide release of "Avatar" on Earth Day to drive sales of Blu-ray players and discs much in the way the pic convinced filmgoers to pay extra for 3D and pushed theater owners to upgrade their movie houses.
Fox also announced a tie-in with the environmental group Earth Day Network, which will plant 1 million trees in 15 countries with the studio's support.
