In a groundbreaking move for the film-tv scene in the U.S. Hispanic, Latin America and Spain, ex-nbc Universal Telemundo honcho Marcos Santana is launching Mas Ros Media, a new venture with offices in Barcelona and Miami whose productions target gaming and esports communities and their families.
Currently developing 16 projects ranging from 6-8 episode fiction series to documentaries, reality shows and movies, Mas Ros Media also aims to ensure sustainability at every stage of the production process. It will use the services of Madrid-based Mrs. Greenfilm, Spain’s leading – and fast growing – sustainability consultancy firm for the film-tv industry.
Focusing on the U.S. Latino market, Latin America, Spain and Portugal, tapping into venture capital fund backing, Mas Ros Media will self-finance its productions, Santana told Variety.
Forging first strategic alliances, the Santana-founded startup has bought an equity position in FireSports, founded and headed by creative innovator Rodrigo Figueroa Reyes,...

Yeah, we know. Martin Scorsese's "The Wolf Of Wall Street" was released last year, and he's already in production on his HBO rock 'n' roll drama pilot, with lensing on his upcoming "Silence" (due in 2015) to follow. And yet it says something about just how much that film—one of the biggest worldwide hits of the filmmaker's career—has permeated pop culture that it can still spur interest this far along. Certainly, Frank Perez is still captivated with the movie, putting together a five-minute (and probably Nsfw) tribute reel to the film that highlights the dizzying peaks and debauchery-fueled lows of the Jordan Belfort biopic. And perhaps even more interesting, St. Louis Cardinals backup catcher Tony Cruz has selected Matthew McConaughey's infamous chest thump/chant from the film as his walk on music, and it's pretty weird to hear it over stadium loudspeakers. Check out both videos below.

Apparently Matthew McConaughey's chest-beating chant from The Wolf of Wall Street really resonated with St. Louis Cardinals player Tony Cruz, because that's what played when Tony approached the plate this week. In the video above, you can hear Matthew's voice booming through the stadium as Tony gets ready to bat. The chant marked one of the more memorable moments in The Wolf of Wall Street, but it wasn't originally in the script - it's just something Matthew does to help himself focus. Producer Joey McFarland told us, "From what I understand, he does it not just on our film, but in everything he does." He added, "To give credit to Matthew, what was on the page was heightened to a whole new level without the chant. The chant was kind of the cherry on top." The unprecedented leapfrogging of TV program formats across the world, a hallmark of today's global television arena, has been dramatically underscored by a deal between Hispanic U.S. network Telemundo and Endemol Spain under which hit Latin American telenovelas will be remade with Spanish casts for Spanish audiences.
The Spanish versions also will be syndicated worldwide by Telemundo.
Telemundo is bringing a wide menu of hit titles to the table including "Pasion de Gavilanes," "Victoria," "Dame Chocolate," "Sin Senos No Hay Paraiso," "El Cuerpo del Deseo" and many others that have aired in more than 100 countries in their original versions.
The agreement, set to be announced Monday, spells out a wide-ranging co-production and distribution effort between the companies to adapt Telemundo titles, including formats other than novelas, for the Spanish marketplace and distribute them at the international level. No decision has been made on which series will launch the long-term deal.
