Five Months Before Dr. John’s death in June 2019, the singer’s son Max Rebennack sent an email to producer and musician Shane Theriot.
Rebennack began corresponding with Theriot about the album Dr. John had made over the previous year. The collection, recorded over a series of sessions in and around New Orleans, was a profound, beautiful document of a singer, weakened by age, reflecting on his life over a collection of mostly old country standards from his youth. Over email, Theriot and Rebennack discussed the special guests, tracklisting, and eventual mastering of the album.

Nashville’s annual AmericanaFest has announced its final lineup of performers, a list that, like the Americana genre itself, represents roots-based country, folk, bluegrass, blues, and rock. Among the new additions: Shawn Colvin, Brent Cobb, Sarah Potenza, Andrew Bird, Drivin N Cryin, Nicki Bluhm, Andrew Combs, Sierra Hull, Foy Vance, the Quebe Sisters, Maggie Rose, Orville Peck, and Jesse Malin.
With 150 acts now added to the already stacked lineup, the Americana Music Association’s annual conference will feature some 500 performances from a total of almost 300 artists throughout the six-day event.

I had no idea what to expect when I placed the DVD for “Scobie Malone” in my player. Scobie, played by Jack Thompson, makes his way through traffic on a sunny day in Sydney Australia as the movie credits begin. An Olivia Newton-John sound-alike sings the Scobie Malone title song. Scobie breaks the third wall by looking directly at the viewer as the title appears on-screen during his drive as an invitation to join him on his adventure. Scobie gives the thumbs up to a motorcycle cop during his drive. He winks, nods and flirts with pretty girls on the way to his swinging bachelor pad.
Scobie lives at “Sunrise Patios” and the entry sign proclaims Singles Only with a placard stating: No Vacancies. His bachelor pad is reached through the central courtyard containing a large patio and pool. A pretty girl in a bikini is changing...

There’s a myth that you have to grow up in New Orleans to truly absorb the city’s distinctive music. But that myth has been shattered countless times, from British pianist Jon Cleary to California sousaphonist Matt Perrine. Like so many others, those two moved to New Orleans and after a long apprenticeship—after countless crummy bar gigs and humiliating comparisons to the local virtuosos—became true New Orleans masters themselves....

It's not just ghosts, ghouls and goblins haunting New Orleans on Halloween weekend this year. The Big Easy's music lovers can also look forward to seeing many of their favorite rappers, rock stars and more at the Voodoo Experience Festival 2010, set to take place at City Park in New Orleans from October 29-31 this year.
On Thursday (June 17) the festival announced that its lineup will include musicians such as Drake, Muse and Ozzy Osbourne among the high-profile performers. When the announcement was made at midnight, the fest's official website crashed for several hours, according to Hit Fix, possibly indicating an unprecedented interest in this year's show.
"I can't think of a better way to celebrate Halloween than with a performance in New Orleans," Osbourne said in a press release.
