Lee Child's "Jack Reacher" books are tasty slabs of red meat for those who prefer their pulpy action hard-boiled, providing readers with a motley collection of crime investigations, despicable bad guys, and a hero who's the sort of unstoppable force that could make an immovable object shuffle a little. And so far, Prime Video's "Reacher" has stayed largely faithful to that ethos. The show might not hold up under critical scrutiny, but it's not meant to. Child's original novels are page-turners designed to be consumed in a single go by anyone and everyone regardless of their familiarity with the greater franchise, and the series is cut squarely from the same cloth.
Be that as it may, those who invest themselves in the extended "Reacher" mythology will be rewarded for their efforts. Throughout extensive flashbacks, season 1 fleshes out Jack Reacher's backstory, starting with his days as a military brat...

"The Simpsons" stopped being a TV show decades ago. It's an institution now. Everyone with even a shred of pop culture literacy can name the core members of the titular family, and millions of others can rattle off a couple dozen residents of Springfield. These characters and their world somehow feel like they've always been around, almost like animation and comedy never actually existed until they did. Generations who grew up in a world where this show was always on, always airing, always available, may not instantly recognize just how much "The Simpsons" shifted television on its axis, but they're living in a world defined by the series' sense of humor, its blend of biting satire, slapstick, and sentiment.
And so it's come to this: /Film decided it was time to select the 25 best episodes of the series. Considering that there are 760 episodes to choose from, this was ... a challenge.

The fast-growing franchise "The Boys" is showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon. Prime Video just debuted the highly-anticipated spin-off series "Gen V," which takes place within the same raunchy and ultra-violent world as its parent show, but from the perspective of horny, super-powered teenagers on the campus of Godolkin University. Reviews towards the new series have been remarkably positive (you can read /Film's review by Michael Boyle here), as have the reactions from fans. In fact, the series has been so well-received so far -- the first three episodes debuted at once, with the rest of the season streaming weekly -- that the creative team is already looking ahead to what might come next.
In an interview with The Wrap, "Gen V" showrunner Michele Fazekas and executive producer Eric Kripke both revealed that writing has begun on a potential season 2. Nothing has been officially confirmed as of yet,...

This post contains spoilers for the latest episode of "Succession."
I've been joking since 2019 that "Succession" will end with Cousin Greg (Nicholas Braun) in possession of the launch codes, but I didn't think it would really happen -- or at least, not like this. The bumbling nepo-cousin started the series off as a kind but extraneous part of the Roy family, and quickly learned that if there are two things you can't be in the Roy family, it's kind or extraneous. Greg eventually lost his tentative moral compass, but could never quite shed the image as the most useless person in any given scene. Until tonight.
For perhaps the first time in the show's four-season run, the latest episode of "Succession" pulled the camera back from the Roy family's drama and trauma to focus in large part on the political context they've spent seasons ignoring. We've always known that the...

This post contains spoilers for the fifth episode of "Ted Lasso" season 3.
The minute "For All Mankind" and "Bomb Girls" star Jodi Balfour appeared on screen in "Ted Lasso," I knew this show was heading somewhere fun. Actually, even before viewers saw financier Jack's face, soft sparks were already flying between her and Keeley (Juno Temple) when the pair shared an unorthodox, tampon-related meet-cute. A moment later, their face-to-face introduction featured approximately 500% more eager-but-shy smiles than any platonic work event ever should. Yeah, I thought, there's definitely something there.
Still, the fact that Keeley and Jack's shippy new dynamic gave way so quickly to a passionate hook-up is a surprise – if a welcome one. "Ted Lasso" has never explicitly stated that Keeley is into women, but it's no surprise given some of her flirty exchanges with Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham) over the years, like when she gawks at her friend's nearly-leaked nudes.

For some people, football is not the most exciting part of the Super Bowl. There's so much else competing for viewers' attention! The tastiest party snacks of all time are consumed on Super Bowl Sunday, along with the most polarizing halftime shows. Between bites of chips and dip, those watching at home delighted in seeing new commercials and highly anticipated trailers during breaks from last night's hard-hitting game. Budweiser Clydesdales and Pepsi ads always abound, but we're to celebrate this year's upcoming releases.
Super Bowl Lvii featured the Philadelphia Eagles playing against the Kansas City Chiefs, along with superhero-themed trailers, cheeky commercials, and a dazzling halftime performance by Rihanna. Throughout the event, film buffs saw sneak peeks of several projects to see in 2023. As Variety noted, major studios are more willing to promote their titles now than earlier in the Covid-19 pandemic. Studios individually paid as much as 7 million to...

One of the joys of animation is hearing a single actor play a myriad of characters. Voiceover work gives an actor the opportunity to explore their range in a totally unexpected way. In Adult Swim's popular series "Rick and Morty," co-creator Justin Roiland voices the two titular leads as well as other tertiary characters like Mr. Poopy Butthole.
The sci-fi elements of the show lead the characters to other planets and dimensions, where they often encounter alternate versions of themselves. This gives the animators and the actors a chance to create distinct versions of the same character. For Sarah Chalke, this presented an exciting but challenging opportunity to get to know a new side of her character, Beth.

This article contains spoilers for season 6 of "Rick and Morty."
"Rick and Morty" has no shortage of twists and turns, but some moments have even caught the cast by surprise. Season 6 has been one of the most exciting and unpredictable yet. With the Citadel of Ricks finally thwarted by Evil Morty and the portal gun completely disabled, the Rick and Morty of C-137 are in rare form. They are unable to travel freely through the universe and most of their counterparts from alternate dimensions have been wiped from existence. Unable to hop from one timeline to another, the show had to create new forms of adventure for the dynamic duo and the rest of the Smith family.
One new addition in season 6 is Beth's edgy, space-exploring clone, who has become a regular member of the household. Space Beth's hard-headed and adventurous nature quickly wins the sought-after approval of her father Rick and daughter Summer,...

We've been living in a world with Rick Sanchez and Morty Smith for just shy of a decade, with "Rick and Morty" having debuted somewhat quietly in December 2013. But the show eventually became one of the most popular animated series on all of cable and, for a moment, was a downright cultural phenomenon. Creators Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon were also a little slow going in the early seasons, with big gaps between installments. No longer, it would seem. Case in point, as the second half of season 6 is about to get underway, the writers are already beginning work on season 9.
/Film's own Michael Boyle recently spoke with Sarah Chalke (Beth) and Chris Parnell (Jerry) in anticipation of the return of "Rick and Morty" later this month. During the conversation, they were asked how far along they were in season 7. Chalke revealed, "I've recorded [episodes] 1 and 2, I think from [season] 7. What about you,...

Ghostface works hard, but Radio Silence works harder.
Barely a year after their first entry in the franchise, the directing pair behind "Ready or Not" will be ready to go with another "Scream." It'll be the quickest turnaround between sequels since "Scream 2," which /Film's Michael Boyle argues is the best entry in the series. The fact that they've already completed production and it'll be released in the coming months means they either already had an idea they've been thinking about for a while now, or Paramount put the pressure on after the massive box office success of the previous film. As per "Scream" tradition, the key survivors from the last movie are coming back to face the masked killer(s). Among them are Gale (Courtney Cox), Chad (Mason Gooding), Mindy (Jasmin Savoy-Brown), Sam (Melissa Barrera), and her sister Tara (Jenna Ortega).

Major spoilers ahead for the "House of the Dragon" finale.
We made it through 10 episodes of the "Game of Thrones" prequel series "House of the Dragon," and it was a wild (dragon) ride. Some of the scenes were hard to watch, including the terrible, horrible birth in the finale. Some were literally hard to watch because they were so freaking dark that you couldn't actually see what was going on. Still, it was a stunning first season.
One of the big complaints about "Game of Thrones" was the sheer number of characters, locations, and history. Many of us, even those who had read the George R.R. Martin books it was based on, had to take notes or look things up to keep it all straight. Early in "House of the Dragon," though, as /Film's own Michael Boyle pointed out, having fewer characters to follow meant that we could connect to...

Continuing a tradition that began in 1985, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on Thursday named four individuals and one writing team as the final winners for the 2022 Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting.
Jennifer Archer from Springwater, Ontario, and Timothy Ware-Hill of Orange, NJ, took two of the spots. The other three went to winners from Southern California including Sam Boyer, J.M. Levine, and the team of Callie Bloem and Christopher Ewing. Each individual and the writing team will receive a 35,000 prize and mentorship opportunities from an AMPAS member for their fellowship year.
A live read of selected scenes from all five of the winning scripts will be performed November 9 during the formal awards ceremony at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures.
The Nicholl Fellowships was established in 1985 through the support of Gee Nicholl in memory of her husband Don Nicholl.
A total of 5,526 scripts from 85 countries were submitted for this year’s competition.
