The “Silk: Spider Society” live-action series has been scrapped at Amazon.
The show was originally greenlit in November 2022 in a deal with Sony Pictures Television to develop a suite of shows based on Marvel characters that Sony controls. It was meant to debut on the MGM+ linear channel domestically before a global launch on Prime Video.
“The Walking Dead” alum Angela Kang was onboard as executive producer and showrunner, with Kang also signing a multi-year overall deal with Amazon MGM Studios in the process. Kang will continue under that deal. Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal were also executive producers on the series.

Netflix has greenlit a family drama series titled “The Waterfront” written by Kevin Williamson.

Shōgun is a limited series no more: FX is gearing up for more installments of the historic drama.
The renewal was expected and foreshadowed by star-producer Hiroyuki Sanada closing a deal to continue as Lord Yoshii Toranaga. Also back are co-creators, executive producers and writers Justin Marks and Rachel Kondo as well as EP Michaela Clavell.
For now, FX and streaming partner Hulu are saying that they are working with the estate of Shōgun author James Clavell to to develop two additional seasons.
There is no mention of a green light, and a start date for production has not been set, but a writers’ room is being assembled and will begin this summer. There is also no information on source material, whether the new seasons will stay within the Shōgun universe or will also draw from the other books in Clavell’s Asian Saga.

Alfonso Ribeiro is going to keep on bringing the funny into the homes of Americans across the country. The America’s Funniest Home Videos host, now in his ninth season, will close out the longest-running primetime entertainment program’s 34th season on May 19. “We have our grand prize finale, which is a fun episode because we take the top two biggest money winners of the season, and they go up against each other to see which is the best video of the year,” Ribeiro told TV Insider during a recent visit to TV Insider’s studio. The show has already been renewed for Season 35, which will mark Ribeiro’s tenth season as host. “It’s such an honor, first, to be a part of that legacy. To be ABC’s longest-running primetime show is an honor. Thirty-five years this show will have been on after we get into next season is a really long time.

In “The Big Cigar,” contradictions weigh heavily on Huey P. Newton (played by the magnificent André Holland). He sees them everywhere. For instance, Huey notes that the NRA contradicted their general ideology by helping the GOP pass gun control laws in the 1960s, all because they were afraid of the group Newton co-founded: the Black Panthers. He’s also keenly aware of the contradiction inherent to a Black man being “set free” from a prison of bars and stone into the prison of the American way. “Contrary to propagated belief, I’m not living to die, but I am refusing to live without liberation,” Huey says during his opening voice-over narration.
He even acknowledges the contradiction inherent to “The Big Cigar” itself, saying, “The story I’m about to tell you is true. […] But it is coming through the lens of Hollywood, so let’s see how much of my...

If you’re still in Shōgun withdrawal, you can look forward to Peacock’s own take on a lavish historical epic this summer. Robert Rodat (Saving Private Ryan) is behind the small-screen adaptation of Those About to Die, Daniel P. Mannix’s book of the same name, which was also the inspiration for Ridley Scott and David Franzioni’s Gladiator.
This new period drama will come racing to our screens on July 18, with the decline of the Roman Empire as its backdrop. Peacock released a teaser for the series, starring Anthony Hopkins, Tom Hughes, and Iwan Rheon, among others, last month. And the streamer is now moving full speed ahead on promo with new images, including closer looks at the Roman Emperor Flavius Vespasian (Hopkins), who founded the Flavian dynasty; Titus (Hughes), Flavius’ son (and successor); and games master Tenax (Rheon, who looks to be considerably less sadistic here than in Game of Thrones.

The hosts of The View had some strong feelings about the latest “Bennifer” gossip. On Friday’s edition, one of the hot topics for discussion was the rumored marital discord between Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck. In Touch reported on Wednesday, May 15, that the Hollywood power couple is heading for divorce and that he had already moved out of their shared home. The same publication later revealed a photo of the two being subsequently spotted together on Thursday, May 16, to watch Affleck’s son Fin in a school play. However, a source for the publication insisted their relationship was still strained, and it was just a “united front.” Prior to that sighting, they had not been photographed together since March 30 in New York, and Lopez attended the Met Gala on May 6 solo. Reportedly, Affleck was busy filming The Accountant 2 at the time. The New York Daily News, meanwhile, denied...

Just like the aristocratic ton, Bridgertonloves tradition. Season 3 follows in the steps of what came before. The premiere opens with a third Bridgerton sister preparing to make her debut. In Season 1, it was romantic Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor); in Season 2, it was anxious Eloise (Claudia Jessie), and now, in Season 3, it’s “pragmatic” Francesca Bridgerton (Hannah Dodd). Francesca is new to society, and Dodd is new to viewers. This is the actor’s first season on the show, stepping into a role that was recast for Bridgerton Season 3.

Can’t blame a fire hose for the waterworks Friday. They’re all due to the bittersweet video that ABC released ahead of the series finale of Station 19 (airing Thursday, May 30, at 10/9c). “I don’t think anyone is ready to say goodbye,” leading lady Jaina Lee Ortiz (aka Capt. Andy Herrera) admits at the top of the clip. And that most definitely includes viewers.

When showrunner John Orloff took on the task of turning historian Donald L. Miller’s “Masters of the Air” into a series for Apple TV+, one task was paramount: putting the audience in the shoes of the Air Force pilots whose World War II exploits were documented in Miller’s book. “We all know what infantry combat looks like,” Orloff told IndieWire’s Filmmaker Toolkit podcast. “We haven’t really seen what these air bomber combat missions were really like.” Knowing that authenticity, both in terms of historical detail and visceral emotional experience, would be key, Orloff turned to visual effects supervisor Stephen Rosenbaum to bring the era and action to life. Although Rosenbaum is known for his groundbreaking work in the fantasy realm on films like James Cameron’s “Avatar,” for “Masters of the Air,” he adhered strictly to reality.

Kennedy Garcia has been tapped by Days of Our Lives to portray a new character named Felicity and will make her soap debut the week of May 20. The young actress, who began performing at the age of five, has appeared in a range of hit shows from This Is Us to 9-1-1 to Sesame Street. She was particularly thrilled to join the cast of Days. “I got the audition for Felicity last year, and I was so excited!” she enthuses. “I have wanted to be on a soap opera for a long time, so for a role to come up for a teenager with Down syndrome was just amazing!” Garcia was already quite familiar with daytime television — she’s a big fan of The Young and the Restless. “My mom and I watch Young and the Restless every day, and have since I was born,” she reports. “In fact, a...

Ok, so it’s not quite a Gemini’s Twin reunion, but Ana Gasteyer guesting on this week’s episode of Loot may be the next best thing.
The Apple TV+ series stars Maya Rudolph as Molly Wells, a newly divorced billionaire who is attempting to navigate life on her own with plenty of money to burn. In this week’s episode, Gasteyer plays Grace Fences—a fellow billionaire divorcee who doesn’t seem to be handling the dissolution of her marriage quite as well as Molly.
Rudolph seemed thrilled to be able to share a stage with her former SNL co-star again.
“[It was] so nice,” Rudolph told TVLine. “I think everyone was titillated to have her. She infused so much joy. It’s nice to have an old friend who you have a second hand with because you don’t have to start from the beginning ever.

TBS has booked your Saturday nights for the foreseeable future as the network has announced the return of Dinner and a Movie. This revival will be hosted by Jason Biggs and Jenny Mollen. The couple, who have been married for 15 years, are setting the table for fun in each episode with a mix of games, food, conversation, and of course, blockbuster films. For the premiere on June 1, it’s DC’s smash hit Aquaman starring Jason Momoa. Also on the menu are surprise guests stopping by including Food Network stars. They’ll be cooking up something tasty while giving their insight on how the audience can do the same at home. Biggs and Mollen were actually in 2008’s My Best Friend’s Girl together before dating, wedded bliss, and parenthood. No word if that movie or others the actor and best-selling author have been in like Amerian Pie are to come.

Vinny Cagungun proposed to his girlfriend, Amber Craven, after their fourth-place finish in The Amazing Race finale on Wednesday, May 15, which surprised viewers given the couple’s frequent arguments throughout the season. However, Cagungun has claimed the arguments were taken “out of context” and blamed the producers for cutting up different parts of the edit to make the conflicts appear worse than they really were. “I learned what a frankenbite is pretty much, where they just cut you up with a bunch of different edits and take it really, really out of context,” Cagungun told Us Weekly on Thursday (May 16), one day after the finale aired on CBS. “A lot of the conflict that we got to see, for me, was very, very surprising because the narrative that we had as we went through the race was very, very different,” he added. Even though he felt the edit took things out of context,...

Some chapters of history are so wild, they’re practically begging to be adapted into TV shows. Although the truth can certainly be stranger than fiction, maintaining total historical accuracy doesn’t always make for seamless storytelling. Even historical dramas with the most outrageous roots often bend the truth a little — or a lot — in order to tell the story they want.

Dearest readers: It’s Bridgerton Week at IndieWire. We’re celebrating the new season by diving deep on one of the best romance shows on TV.
Three seasons into “Bridgerton,” fans of the Regency drama are used to the sweeping romances filled with everything hot and heavy — banter, drama, and above all else sex. Every season has had its “diamond”—Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor) in Season 1, Edwina (Charithra Chandran) in Season 2, Francesca (Hannah Dodd) in Season 3. While Francesca might be of diamond status in the courting process of the season, her brother Colin’s (Luke Newton) long-anticipated romance with Penelope (Nicola Coughlan) might more closely follow the beats of what the “Bridgerton” audience has become accustomed to.
Francesca’s road to romance remains something unlike what viewers have seen before on “Bridgerton” precisely because of her lack of interest in anything romantic or playing the typical heroine. When we first meet Francesca,...

When the news first broke that Chris Farley would be the subject of an upcoming biopic, some of those closest to the late SNL star expressed concern, but the film’s lead says he’s determined to do right by them.
Paul Walter Hauser, who had previously tried to get his own Farley biopic made, spoke with The Wrap about what compelled him to take the role, and why he feels Farley’s legacy is in good hands.
“I just thought that if they were to make a movie about him, I would want to be the one to do it, because I love him so much,” Hauser said, “and I know that I would honor him rather than tell some sort of dark sob story. And that’s really what we intend to do.”
Hauser went on to draw a comparison to his breakout role as the title character in Richard Jewell.
