She’s worked with some of the biggest names in pop culture over the six years she’s spent on the cast of Saturday Night Live, but there’s one would-be host who remains Heidi Gardner’s white whale.
In a new interview with her hometown paper, Kansas City’s The Pitch, Gardner was quick to answer when asked who’s on her must-have host list. “Obviously, [Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick] Mahomes would be incredible to get,” she said.
Referencing Travis Kelce’s 2023 SNL hosting stint, Gardner added “Just the fact that a Kansas City Chief hosted SNL is so cool. I’m probably pressing my luck trying to get another one.”
It’s not exactly a pipe dream. Mahomes recently let slip that he turned down hosting the show this season, but said that it remains on his bucket list.

Kam Williams could probably foresee that once she got her coveted star on The Challenge: All Stars, she’d have to defend it against those who also wanted a ticket to the final. But perhaps she wasn’t expecting to have to return to the arena quite this quickly. On Wednesday’s episode, Kam and the rest of the cast learned that it’d be a back-to-back women’s elimination night after the day’s challenge, which saw them tip-toeing across a high platform over water to latch onto a rubber ball and lower a puzzle. Kam came into the game on a bit of a high, after successfully winning her elimination bout with Tina Barta and making good on her promise to take Cara Maria Sorbello’s star. However, things went sour for her as soon as the anxiety kicked in, and she wasn’t able to complete the...

A Jeopardy four-day champ’s reign is over after a big final bet didn’t pay off. The player bet so highly, he ended his fifth game with just $1. Playing in the May 28, 2024 game was returning champ Amar Kakirde, a graduate student from Lake Hiawatha, New Jersey, with a total winnings of $55,899; Abby Mann, a digital scholarship librarian from Normal, Illinois; and Steve Miller, a retired medical transcriptionist from Eugene, Oregon. Miller staged an impressive comeback throughout the game, bringing himself back from -200 at the first break to a first-place lead heading into Final Jeopardy. This was made possible in part by two successful Daily Double answers, but just like Kakirde, Miller was foiled by a risky wager in the final round. Mann was in third place for most of the game, but she proved to have made the best bet of the night when gambling only $3,000 on the “European Scientists” Final Jeopardy clue.

George R.R. Martin recently took to his personal blog to double down on his issue with Hollywood adaptations and screenwriters’ attempts to make source material their own. “There’s a wonderful thing that happened when MoviePass went away.”
It’s an odd thing for the founder of MoviePass to say, but Stacy Spikes told IndieWire as much. That’s because in the wake of the spectacular crash and burn of his subscription movie-ticketing company, numerous copycats and in-house loyalty programs quickly tried to re-create what Spikes built.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Bridgerton Season 3 Part 1.] Bridgerton‘s third season may still be ongoing as fans await Part 2’s arrival, but it’s clear that this latest chapter has already broken the formula previously explored in past seasons with the main couple — Penelope (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin (Luke Newton), a.k.a. Polin — declaring their love for one another before the second half of the season. While some fans have voiced their feelings about the quick turnaround in the couple’s romance, it’s a stretch to suggest it was rushed. Unlike previous seasons, there was no need to build a dynamic between Colin and Penelope as they’ve existed together in this TV universe since Season 1. Unlike the romances between Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor) and Simon (Regé-Jean Page), and Anthony (Jonathan Bailey) and Kate (Simone Ashley), both Colin and Penelope have a years-long friendship by the start of Season 3, making the seemingly quick...

Bret Easton Ellis’ series at HBO is inching closer to reality. HBO has tapped Kristoffer Borgli to direct the series adaptation of the Ellis book “The Shards.”

Ellis published “The Shards” just last year, and the series per its official logline is “set in the early ’80s and tracks a group of privileged Los Angeles High School friends as a serial killer strikes across the city.”
But what makes “The Shards” ripe for an adaptation is that it’s a pulpy and sexy yet sprawling and unwieldy piece of fiction featuring much of Ellis’ own biography. While it follows the murders of a serial killer known as The Trawler with great detail, it also...

But what makes “The Shards” ripe for an adaptation is that it’s a pulpy and sexy yet sprawling and unwieldy piece of fiction featuring much of Ellis’ own biography. While it follows the murders of a serial killer known as The Trawler with great detail, it also...

Since Maya Erskine burst onto our televisions in 2019 as a 31-year-old actress playing the socially inept 13-year-old Maya Ishii-Peters on Hulu’s “Pen15” (she also co-created the raucous show), her comedic path seemed a clear one. But then earlier this year, she switched it up with the very adult role of intrepid spy Jane Smith, whose cover is to be married for better or for worse to fellow spy John Smith (Donald Glover) in Amazon Prime Video’s action-drama “Mr. and Mrs. Smith.” Some may call the genre swap a 180-turn, but Erskine doesn’t see the leap as gargantuan.

Bob Dylan returned to the city that gave him his start this weekend—but he sure looked a lot like Saturday Night Live player James Austin Johnson.
To mark Dylan’s 83rd birthday, Johnson brought his impression of the legendary singer/songwriter to Washington Square Park.
“Made up a Theme Time Radio Hour segment for Bob Dylan’s Birthday at Washington Square park,” Johnson wrote on Instagram alongside a clip of the performance. Theme Time Radio Hour was a radio show Dylan hosted on Xm Satellite Radio from 2006-2009.
In the clip, Johnson-as-Dylan waxes reflective on summer staples like baseball games, suntan lotion, and carnivals—alongside SNL writer Mike Dicenzo and accompanied by musician Matt Sucich on guitar.

Elsbeth may follow a character who previously recurred on The Good Wife and The Good Fight, but there’s little connection to the previous two series. Sure, Cary Agos (who was played by Matt Czuchry) was mentioned in the series premiere, as someone who could come in and replace Elsbeth (Carrie Preston), but that was it. Could that change in Season 2? “People keep saying, are you going to have guest stars from The Good Wife? I mean, we’re in a different city. We have very little real estate, and it’s hard because the real money for guest stars usually goes to the murderer. And I don’t think Diane Lockhart [Christine Baranski] is going to kill anybody,” showrunner Jonathan Tolins told TV Insider. “I’m certainly open to it. I would love for it to happen if we can work it out somehow,” he continued. “I always think...

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for The Sympathizer finale.] The Sympathizer delivered one last Robert Downey Jr. character in its grueling finale on Sunday, May 26. The HBO Vietnam War satire has been using the Oscar winner to represent the American, patriarchal white male archetype throughout the seven-episode season. This was a narrative devise devised by director Park Chan-wook, and the fifth and final Rdj character in The Sympathizer connected them all together in a way viewers may not have expected. Sandra Oh previously told TV Insider that having Downey, known best for playing Iron Man/Tony Stark — a weapons manufacturer turned superhero — was “bold” and intelligent and “meta.” He plays CIA agent Claude, Professor Hammer, politician Ned Godwin, and Hollywood director Nikos Damianos, all of whom use Vietnamese people for their own gain in their own twisted ways, whether that be profiting off of war through government action or through the Hollywood movie-making machine. David Letterman’s TV shows may have straightforward names—Late Night, Late Show, My Next Guest Needs No Introduction—but the production companies behind them are some of the most creatively named in the biz.
Throughout his career, Letterman has given his companies wonderfully incongruous names. At a screening last week for the new documentary Maestra—executive produced by David Letterman under his “Worldwide Pants” banner—the host reminisced about some of the names he’s created for the sake of, well, funny business.
“A long time ago when I left Indiana and got into big-time adult show business, people said, ‘You gotta get names for these phony corporations to dodge taxes,’” Letterman recalled. “So I just started making up crazy names. We had ‘Cardboard Shoe,’ and we had ‘United States Chemical Cheese.’”
Indeed, Cardboard Shoe Productions is credited on his 1986 NBC special David Letterman’s 2nd Annual Holiday Film Festival.

Hosts of Fixer to Fabulous Jenny and Dave Marrs did not have the family trip they were expecting. In fact, they feel grateful to have survived the weekend at all after the Marrs family found themselves in the middle of a violent tornado. On a vacation with their five children and four animals in Rogers, Arkansas on May 26, the HGTV stars were unknowingly located in one of the hardest-hit areas during a torrential storm. As reported by Heavy, the family ended up being trapped inside a closet, fearing for their safety. The incident was so frightening that their youngest child, Luke, was “terrified” and vomited twice “out of fear.” Though the weather had been forecasted to be stormy, the family could not have prepared for what actually transpired. On Instagram, Jenny writes, “A tornado went through our town last night. A tree is on our neighbor’s house and our power is out.

Acapulco takes a deep dive into one of its more colorful characters as Season 3’s sixth episode, “Take a Chance on Me,” shines a spotlight on pool boy Hector (Rafael Cebrián). In a tradition for the show, having done background stories for Las Colinas employees, Don Pablo (Damián Alcázar) and Diane (Jessica Collins) in past seasons, this time around, series creator Austin Winsberg says, “Rather than doing something that’s another sort of historical backstory into who they are, maybe it’s interesting to do something in the present where we get to see another character outside of the hotel that we wouldn’t necessarily expect.” Apple TV+ The character in question is Hector, who is played by Cebrián both past and present. For the last seven years, Ewan McGregor and Mary Elizabeth Winstead have been searching for a project to work on together. At one point, they were certain they had found the perfect match.
“We thought we had something, but someone else made it in the meantime,” McGregor says with a laugh. “We didn’t know! It was like, ‘How’s it going with that?’ And we Googled and someone fucking made it!”
It’s now been eight years since they met on the set of “Fargo” in 2016, and two years since they tied the knot. But they’re still in the honeymoon stage.

On Tuesday’s edition of The View, Sunny Hostin had some major updates to share about her authorial career — which may soon dovetail into television producing, too! Hostin’s latest beach read novel, Summer on Highland Beach, has just hit shelves as of Tuesday, May 28, and the attorney-turned-show cohost-turned-novelist revealed that this book is a “love letter” to those fans who wanted to see its central character, Oliva, experience some new emotional growth. The setting of the story is, like the first two novels in her “Summer Beach” series, located at a historically Black beach. This time, it’s Highland Beach, where Hostin visited and was told by locals it is “sacred” territory thanks to its centuries-old connection to Frederick Douglass. When asked by cohost Joy Behar, who was mortified after reading out some of the racy passages of her book, whether her bedroom scenes are drawn from her own life,...

Are you optimistic about the Dallas Cowboys 2024 NFL season? Well, recent history suggests you probably shouldn’t be. (Giants fan over here.) But there is something exciting leading in to the summer’s Dallas Cowboys training camp: a new cheerleading docuseries from director Greg Whiteley, the man behind Netflix’s “Cheer” and “Last Chance U.”
“America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders,” a collection of seven 45-minute episodes, will follow the squad from start to finish — meaning from their auditions to the team’s inevitable late-regular-season or early-post-season collapse. The cheerleaders are led by their longtime director Kelli Finglass.
The docuseries, which is definitely not “Cheer” Season 3 (except it definitely should be), premieres on June 20 on Netflix.
Whiteley executive produces alongside Adam Leibowitz for One Potato Productions; Andrew Fried and Dane Lillegard of Boardwalk Pictures and Ross M. Dinerstein and Rebecca Evans of Campfire Studios also executive produce for their respective companies.
